Having a chip in your toner cartridge means that it will be able to communicate with your printer and send the toner level info. I highly recommend using a cartridge with a pre-installed chip as your printer will not detect the cartridge without it and youll have to carefully take the chip out of your old cartridge and transfer it to the replacement cartridge yourself, which will be a challenging and time-consuming task.
