The Mac I was using was old and I decided against buying another when they changed the port sizes. I was looking for something similar, and this Acer has been great so far. Its light, bright, fast and has very good battery life. My last Acer never died. It lasted over 10 years and just became obsolete. I hope they are still building computers with that sort of quality.

This is a very fast, well-made computer for the price and features provided. I purchased it to run Mint Linux on a second, external Samsung 980 1TB SSD M.2 NvME Interface.

11 month update: still overheating a lot. Even with elevation, fans, and nothing else running. Sometimes it will run Valheim just fine, then sometimes it just cuts out, losing all my progress. I really wish they didnt skimp on the ram. I cant wait to build my own rig. If it would just warn me when it is overheating, Id be happy. But no, it just shuts off. I hate this laptop. It makes me sad, considering how excited I was originally.

I am an network guy. 40 + years I installed Linux on it right after I got it.

This laptop ends up being a bit of a study in compromise - its a really nice laptop for the price overall, but there are some curious decisions (and a whole lot of bloatware) that prevent if from being just a really nice laptop with the a price reservation.

I asked for advice on Reddit for what kind of laptop would best suit my usage, and this was by far the most recommended. I am so glad I listened to the advice! I make closed captions for a living, so I am constantly typing and researching. The keys are responsive and the backlighting is nice. I had some concerns about the power buttons placement in the upper right corner where the delete button usually is but I have not had trouble accidentally pressing it like I thought I would. I dislike the layout of the tiny left and right buttons placed right below page up and page down. I am often pressing the wrong button, but this will improve with time.
