I am a tech junky and have external drives as old as 12 years. Some are simply bare drives in enclosures, some are firewire, some are USB 2.0. I even have 8-bay RAID drives running on USB 3.0 or eSATA. Lets just say I have some experience with external drives from many manufacturers. On top of that, I have used them for travel, work, and even sent several through the mail over seas and back! After all these experiences, the ADATA HD710s are by far my favorites. First of all, USB cable storage...PRICELESS! Fast, not the fastest, but fast. Durable: oh yes. I havent tossed them out on a freeway or anything, but I did drop one down a flight of stairs. I think my stairs took more damage. Fair warning: pets think they are chew toys. My drives have bite marks, but still work fine. I have recommended these drives to many of my friends and family and will continue to do so.

Me encanta la calidad de construcción y sobre todo que es muy muy muy rápido!!! Incluso más que mi SSD M.2 que trajo de serie mi laptop. Es fácil de usar y en verdad estoy encantado.

I purchased this drive so Id have something rugged and safe to store my pictures on that I could take with me. Something I could throw in my carry-on luggage and not worry about it getting banged around like you would with most hard drives. From that standpoint, its been good. The thing has always been fine getting thrown in a bag and knocked around a bit. That said, there is one MAJOR flaw in the design. The short USB3 cable can be unplugged from the drive, and it is very loose where it attaches to drive itself. Because of the direction of the cables tension, it puts stress on this connection and causes it to get looser and looser over time. After a few months I got to the point where now, any time I plug it in, a slight bump of the drive or the table it is resting on will cause it to wiggle loose enough to lose connection with the drive. Of course, this is akin to unplugging the drive from your computer with out properly ejecting it first, and puts your data at risk every time it happens (which is often). In the end, youre left with a rugged drive that can take a beating, but can lose your data with the slightest bump or nudge to the surface its resting on. Its not even usable on plane rides anymore (the primary purpose I purchased it for) because the vibration of the plane alone will shake the the cable loose of the drive, causing an improper ejection from the computer and sometimes corrupting the data.

I have concerns about the durability of the hard drives USB connector and how securely it holds the USB cable connection. I suggest at least up-sizing from the micro to medium size connector, and a mechanical latch/strain relief to maintain connection. Have only used the drive via USB 2.0 interface. As previous reviews and drive documentation point out; data rate is dramatically related to power - from over three hours (reading/sourcing 10 GB Ghost image) with marginal supply current, to ten minutes for the same task when supply current is more generous. Still this drive serves my purpose and would have given it 5 stars but for the mentioned connector concerns.

This is a very affordable external drive. I use it to back up completed video projects that Ive uploaded to YouTube. This way I have my own archive in case something crashes. It seems durable and the fact that the cable can be stored right on the device is a nice touch. If youre looking for a cheap, simple, and usable external drive... this is worth the purchase. I use it on my MacBook Pro.

I absolutely loved this hard drive. Couldnt really complain about anything... loved the look, some people complained about the cord but you can always get another one, and it was fine for me. I was impressed by its durability and the fact they didnt put anything unnecessary on it before it came to me. It was just a great drive. But Ive only had it for a little over two months, and it has already quit working on me. :( Due to no fault of my own: I did not drop it (though Ive read it can survive really bad falls, so I guess it wouldnt have mattered if I did) didnt do anything to it, always ejected it properly. I just plugged it into my computer two seconds after it was plugged into another one, and the computer wouldnt recognize that it even existed. The school MACs, my personal PC, none of them can detect it. Ive looked all over for a solution and the consensus is that it is broken. I lost some data (and some homework) but thats nothing worth crying over. Im just upset because I REALLY did like the drive. Its so disappointing it went out so quickly. Ill probably send it back.
