But I really like them so much. Its the 3rd set of them I bought. I wish I could afford the whole 72, They really do have such a burst of color. They actually dont look quite like watercolor unless you use very little pigment. Derwent (not inktense) has a more watercolor look. I find I dont use them quite like watercolor, either. They go along well with neocolor ii Considering the cost, I wish they didnt repeat colors in the sets. From buying the 3 sets I have several duplicates. But I didnt like the selection in the 40 as well.

I have tried so many different types of colored pencils and these as the best! You might as well buy the whole set because it is more economical and you will want more once you try the other ones!!!! I did not get the wooden box just the 76. The colors turn so amazing when you add water to them.

Highly pigmented. Use before, during, and after applying watercolor. Very nice to use.

Eh. Theyre good watercolor pencils. Lay down nice and dissolve well. But no better than Faber Castell or Derwent. Just more expensive.

I am not in love with these but they are much better than the Caran dAche Supracolor watercolor pencils in terms of the quality of the pigment, and the lightfast ratings, however, dont expect these to work like traditional water color paint. Some people say they are opaque - that is because there is a lot of wax content in the cores, so they do leave behind a very soft, matte finish. You do have to work with them very carefully (the lightest pressure possible and I mean very very light pressure) otherwise they WILL LEAVE PENCIL MARKS on your paper that you WONT BE ABLE TO LIFT OUT. You will also end up with a very thick build up of wax that acts like a resist if you apply too much pressure. Just keep that in mind. After doing a lot of testing with the 12 set I found that they look particularly beautiful when you use them for the first few layers of color and then working over those layers very lightly with the Luminance for a soft, transparent layering of colors. If you only use these, it will look very opaque. You can buy a Caran dAche pencil palette (small white plastic board with texture on one side) to mix the colors before activating with water and painting with a brush which is helpful when working with a limited number of colors.

The colors are gorgeous and when using a water brush, the color just melts into the water beautifully! Great selection of 20 landscape colors. Delightful watercolor pencils! Love them. Now maybe I need the Marine set!

I bought these for a workshop where we were using watercolor pencils rather than paints. I loved working with these pencils. There is so much pigment. I cant compare them to other brands but I love these pencils.

I have a bit of a watercolor pencil problem perhaps. But of all the watercolor pencils that I have tried, these are easily the best for sketching. Theyre darn near buttery, going onto the paper so readily and so colorfully. Theyre maybe not the best choice if you want to do a carefully rendered drawing that you will then just get wet (a more than valid choice), but they are so much fun for working loosely with swathes of water and color.

Love these watercolor pencils. Very useful for detail work in my painting. These were the ones recommended by my YouTube watercolor painting teacher and she didnt steer me wrong. Love the versatility. Nice colors in this set.
