Update for those reading in 2017: This vacuum is still going strong 6 years later and I still have not changed the filter. I hope they havent modified the current product since then for newcomers! Pros: 1. Great suction for its size 2. Crevice tool very useful 3. Smaller than I expected, barely more than a foot long, light 4. Easy to clean filter (dont bother buying more, just get your hands dirty for a bit) YOU WANT the filter to have a layer of gunk, because this will keep the filter from ripping if you happen to suck up sharp objects. It doesnt effect suction much and is a great cushion. For those that report it blowing dirt and dust through it is likely due to the filter ripping from sharp objects. Wipe off whatever comes off, but leave that dirt layer. Saves time and need to buy more filters. 5. Comes with optional hose and brush 6. Long sturdy cord with the clip on the plug so you can easily wrap it around the vacuum for storage 7. Corded so you never have to worry about a dwindling battery life. 8. Optional shoulder strap Cons: 1. Very loud, you may be startled on your first run 2. Stinks! The burned machine smell everyone mentions comes out right away. Because of this, dont run it for too long. Theres probably a heat issue associated with this as well. (The cord does mention it will turn off automatically if it gets too hot) 3. Air is blown out through two fins on the sides. It blows directly behind it so aim wisely if you dont want particles flying around (ie. aim down in general so it blows upward and it shouldnt be an issue). Comments: Overall worth every penny (29.99 at my time of purchase, oh my god its only 24.64 at time of this review 2/18/11!) This gets the job done really fast and its size makes it perfect for cars. You will find many uses for the crevice tool so when you do post about it!. Most useful thing I came up with so far is for shoes! Sucks up lint, hair, pet fur, as well as sand and rocks for you active people running alot. Finally, the default suction is just a big hole with plastic housing. Theres no brush or rubber so if you are vacuuming on hard floors dont let the vacuum make contact with the floor if you plan to glide it, it will definitely scrape it very quickly. Otherwise glide all you want on carpet. In conclusion, great when it works. Even if it does break on you, Im sure youll remember how useful it was before it does. Dont abuse it and you will love it.

I had a Dirt Devel handheld unit for 10+ years that finally gave out so I came here to buy another one. Im only using it for around the cat box and along the side of walls in my own home. The suction is okay--it does clog and you have to put your fingers in there to push the material out of the way. The suction opening is way too narrow--it needs to be wider. If I get one year out of this model I did well.

I love this little vacuum! It is perfect for getting spots I can’t get with my big vacuum. It is very powerful and I’m sure it will work great to clean out the interior of the car! In my opinion, it’s perfect,!

I absolutely LOVE this Dirt Devil hand vac. Its powerful and worth every single penny. After spending a small fortune on cordless hand vacs that barely worked, I decided to go with a corded have vac. DIRT DEVIL is the way to go.

Oddly enough, I went to buy a cordless vacuum and ended up with this one with a cord... Unpackaged it, saw a cord, reviewed my order thinking somebody other than me must have screwed up--you know, the stages of denial. Hardly worth time/$ sending it back for my mistake, so we started using it. I still remember the startup torque felt in my wrist when it was first turned on. The really cool thing is that when I turn it on today, the torque is the same as it was in 8/2016! If I had bought a cordless, doubt this would be the case... And likely, Id be spending this time researching cordless handheld vacuums (to replace the cordless one that no longer holds charge) instead of writing this review. (And Id be feeling guilt if someone happened to not dispose of the old unit battery correctly!) So... The cord is a little inconvenient, but we use this in an open area, so its not a big deal for us. I do a decent job maintaining it--knocking the dust out of the filter once in a while, and replacing the entire filter twice now... If you want a vacuum to last, maintaining it is important. Biggest concern is that the picture displayed of the same model vacuum sold today shows a transparent case--mind does not have this. The one I purchased is completely red. Id wonder what else is different if I were to purchase it again, but would prefer a transparent case that would help me know when it needs dumped out. Something technical to note is that mine has .7 Amps on the label--this equates to ~84 Watts. For comparison, the Dyson V7 is 100W, is cordless, and is ~$200... But Im not reviewing the Dyson as Ive never used it... Hope this helps--happy sucking!

This little vacuum arrived in the mail today about an hour ago. I just finished cleaning the stairs with it and I am pleased with how much cleaner the stairs are. It is easy to use, lightweight, and has decent suction. HOWEVER: This little baby is delicate. I am not blaming the manufacturer for this, but 2 pieces of this vacuum have already broken off. First, that red rectangle in the picture is supposed to be attached. It flips down for getting into crevices. Cool! But, I thought it was just an attachment that slides off. So, I slid it off. And to my astonishment, it came off so easily that it took me several moments to realize that it had actually broken off and is not unusable. So, I will have to do without that little flip-down crevice thing. Second, that small black rubber rectangle in the pic came off as I was emptying the receptacle. Again, I was astonished because at first, I thought it was something I had vacuumed up. But, no. It came off from the inside port where the gunk goes into the receptacle. Can I reattach it? Not a chance. So, again, hopefully it is not necessary because I will be doing without it from now on. Again, I am not blaming the manufacturer, but it would be nice if it didnt fall apart with ease at the carelessness of the user. It is a vacuum, after all, and when people are cleaning, we are not always careful; we do not expect our vacuums to be so delicate. The main parts of it seem to still work, but just keep this all in mind. I mean, it was the cheapest stair-cleaning handheld vacuum available. You get what you pay for :)

The dirt devil works well and it was a good price. But it looks like it used to include a carpet tool, which would be handy in my car cleaning my dogs fur. Looking back the description does not say it would be included so I guess that was my fault for not reading more closely.

Picked the one with a cord intentionally to last longer than cordless. Bought this to vac up the loose litter by the litter box. Works great, sucks it right up. Dont have a problem with it blowing debris from the side vents like some commented. Do wish it had a wider opening to cover more than an inch wide space at a time. I reached out on the dirt devil website and chatted with a representative who told me there is no other attachment that will work with the scorpion model. Wonder if the scorpion+ with the carpet attachment would work on hard floor to suck up loose litter? Will continue to use near litter box, and in car seats and floorboard, and to suck up inside furniture cushions.

What a great purchase! I am a 67 year old, retired apartment dweller that likes to keep my place clean and I just wasnt happy with the way my regular vacuum cleaned using the accessories, so I purchased the Scorpion. The first day I went crazy around my apartment. I pulled all the furniture to the center of the room and went to sweeping around the baseboards. I had to clean out the dust filter three times just in the living room! This little vacuum has tons of suction and picked up stuff I never knew was there. Then I did all the furniture. I usually drag the shop vac out to sweep the car, but no more. The Scorpion did a great job except the flip down nozzle is a little fat to reach down into some tight spots. That wasnt a big deal though. It sucked up gravel easily. I couldnt find anything wrong with this little vacuum. There were some comments about the odor and smelling hot. Not to worry. I used mine for a total of three hours the first weekend and that smell went away after a short time. I would guess it was just an over abundance of lube on the motor bearings or something. Others complained of the noise. Noise equals power. It isnt THAT bad. The cord is long enough for any job around the house, but not handy for storage. I coil it up and stick it through the handle. What hasnt been stated is that it has a place on the back of the handle so the unit can be hung on a hook. That is pretty handy. I am going to purchase extra filters because I had to dust the first one out several times and rinsed it twice. Snapping in a clean one would save some time when you are into the cleaning mood as I seldom am!! I highly recommend the Scorpion. It came very close to 5 stars!!

The suction power on this thing is exactly what we needed. I use it for quick cleanups and after pruning some indoor plants. The only thing I dont like is the location of the blower. If the nozzle extender isnt being used, the mess youre trying to clean up gets blown around. Other than that, this thing is great! Even on steps!

The Dirt Devil Scorpion Plus Hand Vac delivers continuous corded power with Hand Vac convenience. It gives you long lasting performance so you can tackle the biggest messes. Clean tight spots with the Quick Flip Crevice Tool and take less trips to the trash can with the Easy-Empty Dirt Cup. A long 16-foot power cord gives you the freedom to clean complete car interiors and stairs.
