Ive been using this device now for a good month and here are my impressions: Pros: -completely cleared up the paperwork that was sitting on my put away shelf, now the only stack I have is scanned, file away -the scanner is small and doesnt take up much room -it does a good job of scanning and the images look crisp and easy to read -the software used to import your scans is VERY EASY to use -stapling your documents is simple (i.e. creating a document with 12 pages as oppose of 12 documents with one page each) -exporting is a breeze -you can export multiple documents at a time (this will save you lots of time) -hardware quality is good but not top of the line Cons: -it does not scan legal size docs (if I had known that, I would have gotten the next version up) THIS: -it took me a while to figure out the best method of feeding the documents to the scanner (if you get one, you will see what Im talking about) because the scanner will start to auto feed when ready and yes, you will have plenty of miss feeds at the beginning of your adventure -exporting, especially when you select PDF with OCR (because, why not?) is slow Yes, I recommend it.

I love this product and the idea of using it for scanning everything I need for my online storage. When on the AC adapter, ti works just fine. But running on the batteries, the unit locks up, freezes, leaves the scanner bulb on and doesnt respond to insertions. I have to remove the batteries to reset the unit as it wont even turn off when on batteries. Maybe I have a defective unit, I will try to contact them for assistance, but beware it might have a problem. *** UPDATE: A day after this post, a customer service rep from Doxie tracked me down and CALLED ME. He stated that my problem was most likely due to using ordinary alkaline batteries. The Doxie requires the higher current available from NiMH rechargable batteries. Sure enough, reading the fine print in the fine manual, it states that DOxie does NOT support alkaline batteries. When I get my new batteries, Ill update again. (Added one more star for now!) *** UPDATE: Yes, the correct batteries do make the difference. This scanner works perfectly in a portable application. It scans without problems. This product would make a great addition to your mobile office backpack. It is small, affordable and efficient in scanning all documents you receive each day. Simply pull the SD card and read them into your favorite document saving application. I use Evernote and it is built in to the Doxie app. After I scan receipts, invoices and postal mail I get every day, I pull the SD card, insert into my laptop and use the Doxie app to send to my Evernote datastore. Sometimes a receipt or piece of paper wont feed correctly right away, but its usually due to bent corners and wrinkles. Try to straighten the paper and it should scan. It is easy to delete bad scans with the Doxie app. So dont worry about improper feeds, just try again, until it feeds steadily. This scanner (and Evernote) is my daily paperless tool!

I bought the Doxie One, and I dont regret it. The most important criterion in a purchase for me is reliability, and having soldiered through a massive backlog of paperwork and receipts, I feel reasonably confident giving the Doxie One a positive mark on that score. Once during the process, a discolored line began to appear on my scans, but a quick treatment with the included cleaning tool took care of it in short order. I have not tested the included software, but thats because one of the things I was looking for in a document scanner was the ability to operate without any special software - too many bad experiences with gaudy monstrosities of drivers. The Doxie One ticks that box as well - stick an SD card in the slot, start scanning, your scans appear as JPEG files on the card, plug in the USB cable and it looks to your PC the same as a thumbdrive or card reader. No options to configure the scanning when operating without the software, but for my purposes, I havent missed them. Theres only one standout bad thing about the Doxie One, but it can be very annoying: the document feeding mechanism is very fiddly. It actually deals with folded and wrinkled paper fairly well - such documents wont look beautiful, but theyll be readable. What it does not deal with well is paper with a less-than-crisp leading edge, especially if its a receipt. If you have such a document to scan, its probably going to take several frustrating attempts before you get a successful result. The machine will grab the edge and start rolling, one side will get stuck, the resulting image will be smeared beyond recognition, and youll just have to fiddle with the edge and try again until it works - I always managed to get it to work, but the experience wasnt terribly fun. Another reviewer commented that it was not unlike trying to get a wrinkled dollar bill recognized by a vending machine, and I have to agree. One more minor issue I experienced was that the scanner would cut off the bottom of any document longer than something like 14 inches. Not a problem if youre dealing with most paper documents, but annoying if you happen to be scanning the absurdly long receipts that seem to be popular with too many retailers these days. On the whole, it works well enough and itd be a really great product if they just put some more effort into the feeding mechanism.

When I started practicing law in the 1970s, I would lug what is still called a brief or trial bag to depositions and hearings. In it would be a huge mass of paper and a bunch of legal pads. At the end of the deposition, I would pack it all back up along with newly added exhibits and tote it back to the office where someone would ultimately file it away. Sometimes the dead weight would exceed twenty five pounds. Three years ago, I started carrying a portable scanner and a laptop to depositions. The scanner, a

Update June 14, 2016: Im raising this from 1 star to 3 stars. The companys Support is stellar. They pointed out that I was using alkaline batteries, which apparently WILL NOT WORK. They helped me acquire some Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries which they say are appropriate for this machine. I cant say enough good things about their support. It is still very challenging for me to feed a standard piece of paper into this scanner. Its probably just me. I put the paper in against the left edge, and nothing happens. Thinking I failed to activate the sensor, I pull it out and place it again, and again. Eventually, the scanner activates and grabs the page at a moment when I wasnt ready, feeding the page at an angle and sometimes rolling creases into it. I need to keep practicing and learn how to be patient, placing the page and having confidence that the scanner will eventually pull it in. Original review ********************************************************** Misfeeds 8.5x11 pages. Its very difficult to get a good scan on this device. Pros: Very small. Battery powered. Saves scans to SD card which is easily plugged into to a computer, table, phone or printer. (The main reason I bought this scanner). Cons: Requires keeping and using a calibration card that will most likely be lost. Misfeeds or refuses to grab pages resulting in partial scans or pages that look like piece of silly putty. At my office we have several Brother DS-720D. Theyre larger, use USB to power the scanner and deposit the image on a connected computer with software installed. But they duplex scan and deposit the image on the computer. I will be buying more of these. I will never buy another Doxie scanner.

When I first got this it worked for one scan and then didnt work at all. I contacted the company and they mailed me a replacement along with a return sticker immediately after a little troubleshooting. It was annoying that the first one didnt work but the company was quick to make sure I got a good working scanner. It works well and getting the documents on my computer is easy. One complaint I have is that, no matter how I feed documents into the scanner, they always catch on one side and go in crooked. Since I am using this so I can get rid of a lot of paper documentation and to send simple signed documents to people, it is fine but I really wish it would feed documents in straight. Also, I found out that you can only use a certain kind of rechargeable batteries and they will not charge while in the scanner even if it is plugged in. So you have to purchase rechargeable batteries AND a separate charger and then constantly remove them from the scanner to charge them. This means you may even want to purchase two sets of batteries so you can swap them, allowing one set to charge while the others are in use. This will tack another good $30 onto your investment in this scanner if you need to use it when not plugged in. At least the recommended brand of batteries are reasonably priced on Amazon. Finally, their documentation is... shall we say... suggestive. I showed it to several people and it is clear there are sexual innuendos throughout. It would be mildly humorous if it didnt involve a little girl which makes it disturbing instead. I am betting they are, for some reason, either not aware of the suggestivity or havent clued in on its inappropriateness. However, it is interesting that doxie is street slang for a prostitute which makes me wonder... I think they need to update the imagery in their documentation as it is rather inappropriate.

I ordered this in January and its now October. No problems. It works well and does what I need. Im using this mostly for receipts and some full page scanning. There are a few who have mentioned its hard to feed straight. There is an issue with that. The wheels can pull the paper in crookedly, so one has to be sensitive to how they are pulling. However, I find after the first one or two receipts, Ive got the pattern back down and it becomes a simple rhythm to feed them in properly. Someone mentioned that the power cord on the Doxie side is loose. Thats true for mine as well. It does not hold in well. However, I dont find that to be a big problem as Im generally sitting in one place using it. If Im not, I have batteries in it. The scan quality is good. Ive got receipts of varying lengths. Some are close to 12 inches long, possibly longer. They feed well (again with the occasional slip to one side or another [see above]) and even when they dont, I can clearly see the image. My receipts are wrinkled, wadded, and altogether not very flat. This hasnt been a problem for me. I open them up, smooth them out and make sure the leading edge is as flat as I can get to start. As long as that edge catches, its good to go. Even on wrinkled receipts, the print can be read. The image looks wrinkled as well, but everything is legible, its not a problem. Im happy with this purchase. I needed something portable, dependable, and clear for my record keeping. I did not get this to scan pictures, so I cant say as to any details on that. But what I have scanned looks good. The software is easy to use and I found it quick and easy to combine scans, and save it to my files.

Scanning documents can be a huge hassle. You have to feed them to your scanner, convert them to PDF, name them, and organize them on your computer. I rarely had enough motivation to do all of the above at once, leading to huge piles of paper cluttering my home office. The doxie takes the pain out of scanning by separating different tasks and allowing you to work on documents in batches. Now, I just grab a stack of documents and feed them to the scanner during TV commercials or whenever I have some time but dont feel committed to doing any of the other steps. Then, when I feel like it, I upload the documents to my PC, name and sort them using the included software, and, as a last step, convert them to PDF and save them to my Google Drive. The conversion process takes a while, but you can do something else while the software is working. I really love this streamlined workflow. By the way, my scanner has no trouble scanning legal-sized documents, although this feature is not advertised for this model (officially supported on the Doxie Go only). The scanning is fast enough (about 10 seconds per page) . The scanner does not mind creases and rarely misfeeds or jams if the paper has clean edges. The scanner does get stuck if the edges of the paper -particularly the corners- are bent. Unlike the doxie go, the doxie one cannot be powered via the USB port and requires either an external adapter or a set of four rechargeable AAA batteries. Be sure to carry around an extra set of batteries as the scanner does not provide a warning when they run low and might quit in the middle of the scan. Transferring scans is seamless - either use a SD-card reader or connect the scanner to the computer via the supplied USB cable, which is the mini-USB kind, not the more popular micro-USB used with tablets and newer cell phones. As others have pointed out, the SD-card does stick out and needs to be removed for storage. The doxie Go offers internal memory for a sleeker look. Neither doxie offers the ability to zoom in on scans in the software, but this functionality is reportedly coming soon. In the meantime, an enlarged edit view can be used as a workaround, except for tiny text. One of the best things about doxie is its excellent customer service. When my scanner developed a problem with the power plug, doxie replaced it quickly and without any hassle. Not to mention, the people at doxie actually read your emails and reply -quickly- with a personalized message rather than some canned response. It is good to know that even in the unlikely event that something does go wrong, doxie wont leave you hanging.

    1) The software used to import and convert the scanned images lacks one major feature: Zoom. The preview of the scanned image is fairly small, and so when youre changing contrast settings and rotation, it can be difficult to tell how effective youre being until you actually export the file. Their support says this will be added soon, but theres no timeline on when that will be. 2) Document length limit. Admittedly, my 17 inch long auto warranty document is a beast, but none the less, it would be nice to be able to scan it. Doxie support tells me theres no way to scan it. They max out at 15 inches. 3) Imports slowly. Over USB, the document import is pretty slow. 1 A4 scan can take 30 to 45 seconds in total. 7 or 8 sheets and you could be there for a while. Not a deal breaker, but its definitely the slowest step in the process. *EDIT* Doxie support suggests I use an SD Card reader to speed things up. Ill have to try that. 4) This is a big one, I came back and edited this to add it. My wife and I use one Windows machine with separate accounts. If I open up Doxie and import scans, when my wife opens it up on her account, she cannot see any of those, and vice versa. If she opens up hers and hits import, documents Ive already imported are not imported into hers. So at this point we have essentially two separate Doxie apps with their own collection of scanned documents. This makes keeping things organized a bit more difficult. Doxie support says that the app is meant to be more of an inbox, where you should export the files therein to the format you prefer, but none the less... Overall, its a nice little scanner. Very portable, very quick and easy to use. But I think its worth mentioning these little details. Update: 10/16/13 Outstanding service. My kids knocked my Doxie off a table while it was plugged in. It broke the power connection internally. I send an email asking if there was a way to repair it. Their response? Sorry, theres no way to repair it. IS this the correct address to send you a replacement? They sent me a brand new Doxie One, with a case, and even a promotion waste paper basket basketball hoop. I never in my life expected that kind of response. Truly top notch service.
