Interesting story line that got into complex trauma and PTSD reactions. I found it very interesting and watched it twice.

Great movie and Huppert is an incredible actress who does a lot with her character. Made me want to move to France.

Great movie--another foreign masterpiece. Great acting and amazing sexual scenes. Best foreign movie of the year ! You have got to check this one out--with a great ending. Saw it twice at the theatres and I bought a copy for my collection. Get this one!!!!.

I couldnt even finish the last 15 minutes. No idea why professional reviewers liked it so much. What am I missing? The acting was great, but the story line was repugnant. SPOILER: When you are injured , vulnerable in a remote area, and need a ride, Im pretty damn sure you dont call your rapist for help. And thats not even the most hideous aspect of the plot.

Huppert is fantastic and the character development and interaction is very well thought out. Very well done.

This movie was very different! It was good but kind of unbelievable as far as her personal relationships in the story went. Don’t want to spoil anything; I would recommend just to hear other reviews.

I like Paul.Verhoeven movies but I really like his commentaries. It helps me understand the weird choices he makes in his films. I was very disappointed to find that this bluray does not have director commentary. The story is weird and kind of freaky for the normal US viewer. If you are a Verhoeven fan rent this instead of buying with the lack of special features its not worth the bluray price.

Hmmmmm. This was a very twisted movie. The description doesnt even describe the movie. I love foreign films. I dont find them particularly special unless the genre is really extreme. This movie is long and just plain strange. The female lead has a sociopath father that only enters the plot halfway into the 2 hour movie. It then gives a reason for a possible reason for her slightly twisted psyche. Its a pretty good movie. BUT. Dont rent the movie if your unsure about it. It was a so so for me.

Well...life is complicated...especially if youre French. But I actually kind of liked it in a perverse sort of way. Interesting story with a strong female lead.

(Spoilers)...Paul Verhoven, a talented filmmaker, has a penchant for the somewhat kinky. He sort of achieves it here, having his heroine become lovers with the man who rapes her. For me this is a psychological conceit I just cant buy. It destroys any semblance of character credibility, something Verhoven can also lean towards. In addition, the main character, Elle, is an emotional blank, responding to her horrendous childhood only with a steely resolve. We never see inside her. I applaud the Amazon reviewers who have correctly rated this overrated film.
