I bought this to replace my 310XT which has always worked well but I really wanted a map and turn by turn nav. I am only about 1 week in with the device about 7 rides but I think I now have a pretty good handle on it:

The overview of the Garmin user interface is a bit arcane. I eventually got to where I was very happy with the Edge 700 but it took a while. This is clearly going to take a while too. I would have designed it differently from the beginning.

The Garmin 1030 is awesome. The bundle components are high quality. The silicone cover is not as good as a phone one.

I was hoping that my first head unit purchase, after using my phone for years, would be the upgrade I needed for better battery life and rain protection. Well this product succeeds with those features; however there is a widely publicized flaw I missed--the mounting plate that attaches the unit to the mount is weak and fails.

I previously had an Edge 520 before I got the 1030 Plus. There is no real comparison. Then 1030 is bigger, in color and sensitive to touch like a cell phone. I use theap constantly to ride in new areas and look for alternative routes while riding.

I love the editable data fields, multiple screens that can be edited, and the overall functionality. I am totally into glancing at progress and trip data on my rides, and this 1030 Plus has everything I could ask for. I have had no problem at all, and it has been very accurate over the 300+ miles Ive rode with it. Battery life is also great, and will last through 4-5 of my 25-30 mile rides easily.

I have used Garmin for years in my cars. That is why I bought Garmin for my bike. What a mistake!

So far I am very impressed with this piece of equipment. I use it on my Nordictrack spin bike and the readings are identical when using the cadence, heart rate, and speed sensors. I have not taken it on and outside ride yet so I have not employed the different features such as the Maps and distance to target. The accessories were plentiful and fit on my studio and road bike with no problems. I was under the impression I was getting a black protective case with this bundle but it cam with a white one. Definitely not a show stopper, as it is a very good case. I am definitely pleased so far.
