After disconnecting the water line in tank, I had a little trouble twisting the yellow cap off -- was afraid it would break b4 it turned. But the gasket fit in the groove perfectly. But the tank still leaks -- green food coloring doesnt lie. DK if its another tank part or the valve at the wall. So, will call in a plumber after all. At least I know what the problem isnt.

DC has such hard treated water the original red seal rings needed replacing after 10 years. These rings are perfect - no more water leaks. I replaced seals on all three toilets and am sure we have saved $$$ many times over the cost and simple replacement of the failed rings. Get these you will be glad you did!

My toilet was draining and refilling constantly and I determined it was due to the canister seal. I considered getting a cheaper generic one but read mixed reviews, so I went with the name brand. I cant speak to the durability of this item but it was easy to install and the toilet issue has been resolved!

Easy to install

We have four of these toilets in the house as part of custom new construction as recommended by the install plumber, it is just a matter of time before the seal is compromised. It is a five minute fix to replace a seal once you have done one and are now over the fear of breaking something when twisting the vertical pipe a bit. See a whole slew of you tube videos on how to replace this seal, search leaking Kohler toilet. Please stay away from non-genuine Kohler replacements. If you have several of this type of toilets, consider just getting a spare and have it on hand for the next time. The three I have replaced, one lasted over four years, another between four and five years, and the other almost five years.

After dealing with a slowly disintegrating gasket for months I finally purchased a replacement. The old one looked like it was made out of polar fleece. Apparently, the original natural rubber seal was damaged by the big clorox chlorine tabs I had put in the tank a while back. Replacing the gasket took almost five whole minutes from start to finish and now the occasional refilling on the toilet tank is gone and the physical effort to push down the flush handle went from a ridiculous number of pounds to a couple of ounces. This new seal appears to be made of a substantially more durable silicone rubber than the natural rubber of the original. The only complaint I have it that I should have replaced it a year earlier when I first noticed increased difficulty pushing down the flush handle and occasional sound of the tank refilling without reason. I bet it wasted thousands of gallons of water. Ugh! Im planning on buying extras and taping them to the underside of the both toilets lids so I dont have an excuse to delay replacing them the next time! If you have a toilet that uses this seal, it is a must-have upgrade even if you dont think you need it. Recommended without reservation.

I surfed the web to find out why my Kohler class five toilet would periodically run. The consensus was that this little yellow gasket was worn and needed to be replaced. There was a great Kohler video that explains the steps to make this little fix. I replaced the gasket using the steps and the toilet was STILL running periodically so I flushed it once and checked it a half hour later and realized it was still losing water in the tank. I turned off the water and flushed the tank to empty it. Then looked closely at the side that did not have the gasket and realized there were TINY pieces of plastic from the old gasket that needed to be cleaned off. Once that was done, I turned the water back on and checked it a half hour later and the water level had not decreased. So, that step is not mentioned in the video but it is important when you are replacing this yellow seal.

The toilet valve was going on for about 30 seconds every half hour all day and night. I’d get up an hear the toilet running, then it would stop. Read about replacing this seal, a 10 minute job, and now the toilet works like it should. I noticed that the old seal had developed a small bubble which allowed a tiny amount of water to leak, eventually triggering the valve to fill the tank. This seal fixed the problem...no plumber needed!

This is a Kohler replacement part. It is very good quality and expect it to last years under my water conditions. It takes about 5 minutes to replace - the canister must be removed so that the seal can be easily accessed. Use care when removing the upper yellow or black plastic disk where the water line attaches. I cracked it on another toilet.
