I bought a 2006 Crestliner Fish Hawk with a Humminbird 998c SI Combo (not an HD). The depth on the graph read nothing but 5.9-6.1 ft. SI was completely black on both sides. Based on these reviews/fixes, I decided a faulty transducer was the problem. It definitely was. As soon as I hooked this one up... my depth began working on the graph, and the most purdy pictures... all good!

As numerous others have posted on different forums the transducer has a problem with the mount popping up when installed as a skimmer on a 50+ mph boat. I have fought this issue for the last year, and tried the transducer in several different locations. The transducer is mounted on the transom with the seam aligned with the bottom exactly as shown in the instructions. Several installers have seen the transducer and agree it looks exactly as Hummingbird says it should. After spending 6 months with the transducer popping up 3 or 4 times a day and numerous calls to Humminbird support, I replaced the mount thinking I had a bad mount. After the new mount continued to pop up at Humminbird’s recommendation I added the optional center screw. The screw solved the problem for about a month. I came in last night with just a wire hanging where the transducers use to be. The mount had cracked just below the screw. The transducer flopped around in the water after the mount failed and completely seperated. The transducer is between $150 and $200 to replace and is not covered under the 1 year warranty. There are absolutely no marks on the bottom of the boat, it was calm, clear, early afternoon in deep water, running about 50 mph. I am 99% sure I didnt run over anything. Neither my partner nor I heard anything, or saw any type debris in the water. I realize you can raise this transducer where it is out of the water on plane, a Y cable, and another transducer as a thru hull and resolve this issue, but you will give up water temp, and the cost increases. I have tried the transducer at all the possible places that it can be mounted as a skimmer on my transom. If I was not fluent in fiberglass and gel coat the number of different holes drilled would be maddening. Several companies have made a lot of sales just trying to protect these transducers so I think they know the problem exist.

The transducer hasnt upped my fishing game much but, I cant blame the equipment, it works flawlessly.

Someone stole the one off the boat. So I ordered this dude. Man it works just as good as the old unit. Maybe a little bit better. Thanks for the affordable pricing and fast shipping.
