    great tool

The design gives you a lot of leverage and it functions as I expected it would, but I do have one complaint. This tool is exceptionally expensive, much more so than your average end nippers. With that said, I purchased this tool for the purpose of cutting and pulling framing nails out of wood. I thought this would be great for that reason because of the ease of clearance as the shank of the nail passes through the cutters and is unimpeded by the joint. However, the jaws simply do not open wide fast enough, meaning you have to pull the handles do far apart for it to fit a common framing nail that it makes one handed operation difficult. Its easier to get a grip on nails with simple end cutters than these. Sure, this tool may cut easier, but whats the purpose in all that cutting power if you cant get a grip on larger stock? Hopefully I have explained this in a way that is easy to understand. Overall its a great tool if you need to make flush cuts on small stock, but try to use it as a nail puller and it is more difficult than it should be. I am taking away a star because at this price, I expect such a feature. Without it, the tool becomes far less useful to me.

KNIPEX 61 02 200 Comfort Grip High Leverage End-Cutters-Bolt Cutters I bought this tool for a specific project -- in a cramped attic to clip flush some roofing nails poking through the sheathing. I own several other end-nippers and cutting a roofing nail is quite difficult with all of them. With this Knipex, its a one handed, simple squeeze. Almost shockingly easy. These cutters do well on up to 16 penny nails, or even 20 penny with a strong squeeze. The pivot point on the cutter head is very near the cutters, which provides tremendous leverage. The handle covers on this made-in-Germany tool are superb -- thick, tough, and comfortable. On the other hand, these cutters will barely dent hardened (Grade 5 or harder) machine screws / nails, or stainless steel screws. On both metal types, try a reciprocating saw with a hacksaw blade. If you force this tool in an attempt to cut hardened screws/nails, the jaws will chip and be ruined – I did that to my first Knipix – and filed a “complaint” via the Knipix web site. They sent a free replacement tool. All I had to do was send the old tool back first; they didn’t even ask for a receipt. Six stars for customer service. I have an extensively equipped workshop and had never spent this much on a small hand tool. If you really need a terrific set of end-nippers for mild steel nails or machine screws, you probably can’t beat these.

Cuts nails leaving about a 2mm stub. I easily cut nails up to and including 6d and cuts 8d with some effort. Nails much larger than about a 1/10 of an inch in diameter cut more easily with a bolt cutter.

Chops through finishing nails like a pretzel stick. If you have nails sticking out of wood that you otherwise cant pull out, this is what you need to cut them down to size.

Great leverage tool, but whatever youre cutting off doesnt cut as close to the surface as other similar tools like this that I have used.

It cuts rusty nails with ease. But it takes quite a bit efforts to cut new and big nails. I used multi tool to cut a notch to weaken it and then used this tool to finish the job.

when roofing my house a few of the sheet nails missed the studs. i bought these to cut the missed nails off and they did not disappoint. They cut almost completely flush to the surface and after cutting about 50 nails there is no noticeable deformation or damage to the blades.

I have used a lot of different tools for clipping nails, but this is by far the best. Even the big name brands dont work as well. I used this to clip nails recently in a basement before installing radiant floor heating. I clipped upwards of 100 nails in each 16 framing bay of a 1000SF footprint home. that is many many thousands of nails. This tool doesnt have so much as a chip in the cutting surface. Do keep in mind that the hardened cutting surface WILL chip if you pry on a nail and lose grip allowing it to slide. The harder metal is more brittle in this direction. The higher leverage point and offset cutter helps read awkward areas more easily. From flooring nails to standard 3 nails, and even up to 4 galvanized Nails. This tool does the job. I would say the protruding remnant is 1/32 or less when this tool is used against a flat surface with easy access. This can easily be ground flat or left alone depending on your need.
