This is our third LaCie Thunderbolt portable HD (we have multiple computers), and I love its durability and reliability. Its small and relatively light, and I keep one as a backup drive (only connecting it for periodic backups), just in case those connected to the computer(s) get fried from sudden power surges or other electrical issues. Wouldnt use any other brand because this one has been solid for us!

I wish I could give this a better rating but we tried to get two of them to work on my Mac, laptop, husbands mac and office mac. We even took one into simply mac to check it and it wouldn’t work :( sadly I returned.

I purchased this case because its rugged and can handle the travel I do with it. I have a small HD on my laptop so I needed a device that can be powered from the port on the laptop and allow me to use it on the plane, at the airport, in the car or out in the middle of nowhere. It can take a fall with the rubber around, but I do take care of not dropping it too often or from a high distance, from about a sitting position to the carpet or grass.

We bought two 8TB versions of this RAID. I was a little concerned when both boxes appeared to have previously been opened. They were not sealed, cables were loosely coiled in one, yet had cable ties in the other. The first just failed to mount at all. We tried on a 27 iMac, a Dell M3800 and a Dell A-I-O just to be sure, both with and without ancillary power cable. This just would not show as connected. The second actually mounted, with super slow 24mbs transfer speeds. We noticed the drive had been formatted and named Mother Ship by the previous owner! Sent both back and we will not buy Lacie again. These were bought from Amazon approved vendors, luckily via Prime, so returning was easy but still a huge inconvenience.

I am honestly livid. We are wedding photographers/videographers who bought two of the 8TB hard drives (that is $1,000 for anyone keeping up with the math). They BOTH stopped working right after the one year warranty ran out. They were just sitting on the desk plugged in, it ejected itself and would never show up again. They both did this about a month apart. There are unedited weddings on these drives!! These are our clients most precious memories and it will cost us a fortune to recover these photos and videos. This is insane and ridiculous. Dont waste your money.

This Lacie Rugged Raid Pro is such an awesome tool to have, especially for pictures, videos, and finished content. The protective covering definitely helps with small drops! The fact that you have flexibility in terms of choosing your storage plan is also really cool. You either have the option to use all 4 TB of storage, or to use 2 TB of storage and have it mirrored (this is definitely something that I wish other external hard drives had too).

My experience with it is mostly reliable, but sometimes it might be slow to load with Windows, if so just be patient - dont unplug without choosing the ejection (lower right taskbar) or you could cause some corruption, at least temporarily.

Great affordable drive. Use it as an external bootable Windows 10 drive via bootcamp. Not trivial to get a system out there but there are instructions on the web on how to do it. I have other (2 and 4 TB) drives of the same make and they also work great for extra storage and as TimeMachine drives. Over the years that I have had LaCie Rugged drives, Ive never had one fail (unlike other makes that have failed).

Get the regular USB hard drives, these need power.
