OWC 1TB Express USB 3.0 Portable Storage

Running OS Catalina 10.15.7 on a 21.5 inch, Late 2012 iMac/w USB 3 ports. Been struggling/w a bunch of flash drives for backup; took forever. Purchased this last week & installed today. Miraculous. Backed-up tens of thousands of files in less that 17 minutes. Slightly smaller than my iPhone SE & just as slim. Will store securely & back-up my pc weekly.

Yes, this drive case is made from plastic but is very solid and the USB 3.0 connector (and supplied cable) is very high quality and works perfectly. The description says it has a USB 2.0 mini cable but it actually comes with a USB 3.0 cable to go with the USB 3.0 port on the drive case itself.

Perfect replacement for an enclosure gone bad

Ive always had positive things to say about OWC products and have used these cases in the past. I wanted the black color to differentiate some another external drive with the same case in silver. Whenever I upgrade a laptop hard drive, I get a case to repurpose the old drive.

Simple and sleek. Just need a Phillips head screwdriver.

Ive been using these enclosures on and off since USB2. Now have 4 of them, probably gave away another 4. Also have 4 other drives, all aluminum, all cost more than double what the Express costs. Heres what you get for half the price: Plastic instead of aluminum. Far better connectors, easier to plug into, grip well, take the entire connector, not just the first third. 4 screws. Yes, screws. Screws that hold drives in place. Screws that hold the upper and lower halves in place. A decent pc board with the connector firmly mounted. Intelligent cooling. I run SSDs in them you can fry an egg on when Im doing heavy write runs. The enclosures remain cooler than Id ever expect. No signs of stress cracks. If youre looking for a cost effective 2.5 enclosure, these should be high on your list.

This enclosure made it really easy to use old laptop parts for modern projects. The only way it could be better is if it was made of metal....

Im a fan of OCW products and this works as intended, but not as well made as the more costly OWC Mercury On-The-Go cases. Placed an unused, spare Samsung 830 series SSD in this case. Two screws secure the mechanism to the case - two additional screws seal the case shut. Works for my intended purpose, but next time Ill buy another Mercury On-The-Go.Appreciate the included USB 3.0 cable,
