> 24 hourI’ve had this product for several years now. A sump pump failure during a storm makes you find solutions, and I chose this, as my basin is too small to accommodate a backup pump. Physical installation was a snap. I can say that *when it works* it’s a nice product. I’d get reports on how much it was cycling and when, and I’d also receive power outage alerts which would be helpful. The problem is - this unit would go offline. Frequently. We occasionally get power drops where I live. Sometimes PumpSpy would come back up. Much of the time it wouldn’t. Restoring PumpSpy to operation was seldom easy. I often couldn’t log into the app as it would refuse my credentials. Since I use a password manager, I feel fairly confident that I wasn’t entering them incorrectly. Then at some point it would accept me. Then there are the times I tried to reset the device and start from scratch. Connecting it to my network would often take several time consuming attempts until it was successful. Finally, I use a security monitor on my network. It played nice with the literally dozens of items on it. Except for PumpSpy. Apparently this device is the lone item in my inventory to use a risky unencrypted connection that could leave my network open to malicious actors, and it would refuse to let PumpSpy phone home because of it. So…after several years of use, I have to say this product is not worth the price. I could live with every flaw this product has to offer except unreliability. I have too much to lose to depend on this frequently failing device, and I have to find another solution. My suggestion is that you should too

> 24 hourWe were concerned our sump pump was running too often. PumpSpy was super simple to install, and works exactly as advertised. We can see historical data on when and for how long our sump pump operates. The App also provides an “estimate” of the volume pumped, which is not really accurate but we don’t use that info. The high level alarm will text us an alarm as well. All in all a great investment for peace of mind!

> 24 hourI spent 2 hours trying to set up this device, both manually and through the app. Every attempt ended with couldnt get IP address. I have called the support number, but havent received a return call yet. I will update this review if/when I get it working. UPDATE: After a phone call with tech support, I learned that you cannot set it up with an Android 10 or 11 device. I was told to use a laptop, iPhone or iPad to set it up. Then the Android device can connect to it. I just wish there was something in the instructions to let users know.

> 24 hourMine quit working after two years. I recently upgraded my mesh network nodes and setup a new SSID (network name) in the process. That required me to press the button on the PumpSpy in order to put it into “setup mode”. I did that and the ring around the outlet turned amber as it should. However, soon after the light went out and never came on again. It’s dead. I opened a ticket with support and explained everything. They had me email them my receipt, etc. Now, they want me to ship it back to them at my expense so they can determine if it needs repaired or replaced. They also sent me a list of things I need to include with the package. They want me to include the ticket number, but also a description of the issue I’m experiencing. And if it’s determined that the device is functioning properly, then they want me to pay for return shipping. Ummm, no thanks. How about I save us all the trouble and drop it in the trash. I’m just going to buy some water sensors for my SmartThings and call it a day.

> 24 hourThis was easy to setup and get goin, truly. Download their app, plug it into the outlet, hold a button, connect to the outlets WiFi signal, setup the outlet to your WiFi and you’re done. 5 minutes tops. Anytime something is wrong like high water, loss of power, or WiFi signal, notification hits my phone immediately. This thing has already paid for itself as I had two new half HP pumps installed since I have a high water table around my house, and the guy messed up pump alignment when he put the cover on. Didn’t realize it until my pump wouldn’t fire late one night since the bulb couldn’t rise to kick it on - back up saved me from flooding but this outlet was on its game by sending me notifications of high water almost immediately. Ran down there and sure enough it was a mess in my tank. One technical thing, for those who might be wondering... I have two pumps as I mentioned, so I also have a Zoeller Smart Pak pump alternator that alternates both my pumps, so that one pump isn’t constantly running. So, pumps are plugged into the alternator, and alternator is plugged into the WiFi outlet which is sitting on a normal 110 outlet. No issues or problems with that setup, FYI. Bottom line, I sleep better at night and when I’m traveling for work I still know what’s going on. Power outage? I know. High water? Got it. How many pump cycles and est gallons pumped in 24 hours? Yep, history is posted in the app too. That’s peace of mind. I didn’t get this at a discount or get paid for this review. I figured I’d say that since the review is glowing. It’s honestly and truly happiness that I’m prepared, and after I had one flood with a $7k price tag in damage, I’ll go the extra mile to avoid that again. This is that extra mile.

> 24 hourOverall this is a good product and I would purchase again. I did have the same connectivity issues, noted by others. System didnt want to connect to internet with 3-4 bars- I purchased a WIFI booster and it connected without issues. PROs: does what is says- monitors sump pump activity and alarms very quickly and reliably. CONs: the outlets are not tight- primary sump pump has no issues--back up sump pump has a heavy plug which has worked out of the outlet...a zip tie fixed this. Side note: this was installed on a new build house, which flooded prior to closing, when power was lost. So, I know the basement will flood if there isnt a workable pump system. I complained to the builder about the constant activation of the sump and was disregarded- I used this system via the app to show the builder that my pump was activating 2500+ times a day and discharging up to 27K gallons of water (Yes!!!!). The builder came out and found that a discharge line they installed was essentially recirculating water to the foundation. This wouldve burned out the primary pump and flooded my basement. This product, while expensive, does what its supposed to do.

> 24 hourUpdate 2018-12: The PumpSpy unit didnt handle a power surge/spike so great. The unit reported the power was off properly, but then didnt report the power was restored even though it had been. It was a very short spike/outage and luckily I was home when it occurred. A simple unplug/replug of the unit reported power restored, but this would be a bit concerning if I didnt have other devices to check the power and pump state. Still overall happy with the unit and waiting for the first sump pump failure to get more info on how well it works during that. Initial: Initially, I had quite a few issues getting this setup. Being an IT person that can normally sort out these issues made it even more frustrating. But then I found the secret page three of the instructions with the manual setup steps and it went well after that. Tip, be patient waiting for the outlet to change from red/yellow to green. Says it will take a minute but actually took a few to link up and be happy! Ive attached Page 3 as an image and it can be found on the PumpSpy website with a bit of digging. Now to see how it handles issues, our pump runs continuously and typically fails every 12-18 months. Hooray natural springs under the house...

> 24 hourUpdate: 6-15-22: I spoke with someone from PumpSpy, and they are going to add the features back and explore how to better address this going forward. The developer of this product has actively removed a key feature: cycle history. Previously you could see 90 days worth of information on how often the sump pump ran. Now it only tells you the number for the current day. They have not provided any announcement or reasoning or otherwise indicated why they removed this key feature. If they are willing to remove that feature, it’s only a matter of time before future “improvements” further nerf this product and its usefulness.

> 24 hourI gave this 4 stars because, so far it has worked as advertised but there are a few issues. This unit only sends data to the Pumpspy server. If this company decides to discontinue this service, the unit will be rendered useless. In addition, the AC current path through the unit must pass through a 20 amp hall-effect device/chip (this allows for counting cycles and duration). My only problem with this is the 20 amp rating of the device. They could have used a higher rated (up to 50 amp rating) hall-effect chip to make this unit more robust for those of us using higher hp pumps and it would have cost very little more. If the hall-effect chip blows, no power to the pump. To be fair, I havent had this happen with a 1/2 hp Zoeller pump but it still concerns me. My primary purpose with this device is to keep a running count of pump cycles to determine when to replace the switch contacts. The Pumpspy software does not keep a total running count of cycles (just total per given day). As such, I have to transfer their collected daily data to a spreadsheet to get a running total.

> 24 hourWow - this product is just awesome. We recently had our main and backup sump pump fail while I was at work causing some major damage to our basement. We knew about a much more expensive sump systems with similar capabilities as the PumpSpy PSO1000. Once I replaced my main and backup sump pump we decided to give this product a try. I am super happy about it. Setup: Super easy, if you have a smart phone and a good quality router it couldnt be easier. Installing the water sensor is very easy as well, just make sure if you have a main and a backup put the float between the two floats. App: What a great design for an app. I love how you can track the cycles your pump is on and it gives you a good estimate of the amount of water being pumped out each day. I tested the alerts an they work great. You will get a notification through the app as well as optional text alerts to the set phone numbers you desire. Overall, very pleased with the product. Only flaw that I saw was my backup AC charger was too bulky/large and it would not stay plugged into this outlet, which is fine, because I plugged that into a different circuit breaker.
