UPDATE 2: I bought a second one. Perfect for hauling lots of gear across a wide beach. Also good for traveling, as a pack/suitcase for large items. UPDATE: Im in the 2nd year with this bag now. It is holding up very well. I seriously overload this bag, and the shoulder/backpack straps show no sign of ripping or failing, etc. For the beach, it holds four large folding beach chairs, large umbrella, fishing net and two small shovels. amazing. end edit. This duffle bag is pretty awesome. It is exactly what I needed. I wanted a big bag for the beach, to carry two beach chairs, umbrella and maybe something else. It swallows all that stuff up perfectly. Best thing is that it has adjustable and padded backpack shoulder straps. It is very thick old fashioned heavy duty canvas, which is fine. Someone else mentioned that it didnt have a drawstring or any way to close the top, but it has a great system where you put the post up through the other holes and then the clip on a strap clips it all closed. It is obvious how that works once you have it and look at the photo provided here for the item. I anticipate using this bag when I next travel and need to bring bulky items. It is awesome.

I took a trip out off state on a greyhound bus. Of the trip, 4 days were on buses. This böag was tossed on the ground, thrown under a bus with dozens of other bags, drug across pavement, had other bags dropped on it and was otherwise subject to rough handling. It didnt damage any of the seams and didnt cause and other tears or cuts. My military issue bag didnt hold up quite as well. I like this one and plan to use it for future trips. It locks the same way a military issue bag does but this one seemed harder to get the lock on but it could be that the lock is a different style than Im use to. Well see how many more trips itll survive. I already have a second trip planned.

The double shoulder straps really increase the distance you can carry it practically. Like some of the other reviewers, I use it to carry my laundry to the laundromat. I carry it about a mile without it bothering me; obviously if you were going much further than that, youd want a backpack with a suspension system.

I used three of these as portage packs for a recent BWCA trip. They fit inside of the canoe perfectly and they hold a ton of gear. We lined them with trash compactor bags to keep things dry that needed to stay dry. Id highly recommend these over getting a Duluth pack.

Very durable, can hold a lot of weight, everything is in one spot so I know exactly where I put it. No searching through a plethora of pockets and pouches to find what youre looking for. Its all there.

This bag may be sturdy, but it’s nothing like the bag in the photo. One strap, absolutely massive totally unusable as a backpack or travel bag. But hey, it could maybe fit all your early possessions inside it in case you decide to move.

this is exactly what I was looking for. I used to own a musty smelling one from a army/navy store when I was a kid, but its long gone. Using it as a second checked bag to haul camping gear on a plane. There was an earlier review stating that this bag is only 11 wide. Theres obviously some confusion here. laid flat, this item is 20 wide. This is a BIG, top loading duffle bag.
