It picked up lower voltage than it was supposed to...on a 277 volt breaker with 20 v bleed through when turned off it still registered as hot by this tester .No good to me at all

Why go to Lowes or Home Depot when it can be delivered to your door. Cost less too.

I have used this on 2 different occasions...both times it indicated the circuit was live...even after the main breaker was thrown...Spend a few bucks more and get a reliable one !

This is overly sensitve for control work or enclosures with multiple circuits, but for general household use it is OK

I have had three of these southwire testers. one didnt work (not purchased through amazon). The rule of thumb with these testers is to always try them on a circuit that you know is live before you test them on a circuit that you need an actual result on. do it. 110 hurts. So far I have gotten a couple of false readings from this tester, but they were false positives. a false positive means exercise caution. I have not had any false negatives. false negatives are when you jump back, scream and try to shake the buzzing sensation out of your fingers. As with other product that involve working with electricity, testing a circuit is absolutely no substitute for knowing what you are doing. if you are unsure, electricians are paid to know just how bad getting zapped hurts so you dont have to. if you are smart in how you use this thing, we wont be calling you sparky.

Make the Southwire 40116N AC non-contact voltage (NCV) pen tester a valuable addition to your tool bag. Use it whenever you perform electrical work to identify where voltage is present. Detects voltage in wires, light switches, circuit breakers, outlets and light fixtures. Press the On button and the detection tip glows green. Move the detector tip close to the electrical wire or device being tested. If voltage is detected, the detection tip will change from green to red and begin flashing. The NCV will also beep loudly. The 40116N can also be inserted directly into electrical outlets to verify operation. All Southwire non-contact voltage detectors come with a built-in focused LED flashlight so you can illuminate dark areas. Auto power off feature helps conserve battery power. As an added safety feature, the 40116N has a low-battery self test which periodically checks the condition of the batteries. If battery voltage becomes too low, the self-test circuit turn off the non-contact voltage detector until the batteries are replaced. The 40116N is UL listed. Not designed for use with Tamper Resistant (TR) outlets.
