Ive sent quite a few Fingerlings as gifts, as they were the must have toy. Ive never opened & experienced one before & while its cute, the claims of 40 plus noises & special features seem to fall short with Nina the elephant. Before I get into what she does (not much) & she doesnt, some tips. She is strapped in to her packaging with a clear band around the neck. Small fingers may be able to untie from the back but most likely scissors will be needed. I found using full size adult scissors, it was easiest to pull the toy away from package. Made it easier for the scissors to cut the elastic while stretched, otherwise you may scratch the toy. The instruction page is hidden in the blue paper base Nina sits on. I never would have seen this, or even looked, If I wasnt desperate to make this work by looking at YouTube vids. Btw, currently Feb 2019, No YouTube info on use of the Fingerling elephant. The vids I did find make you think you are missing something. Youre not. Its easy to find the switch on the back of the head to turn on. However, it does time out after inactivity, when it says bye bye, so you must turn On & Off to reactivate. Which brings me to Nina. She is suppose to record your voice by holding a sensor in front of her right ear for 2 seconds. After a grueling 10 minutes & about 40 times of Nina saying hi, I admit defeat on voice recording. If it works, it didnt on my model but, its new so there may be bugs to work out. Nina, as all Fingerlings makes noises that are a cross between a babys coo, a Japanese cartoon & a cats purr. It is higher pitched. Like the voice we all involuntarily make when we see a newborn. She does with certain features, like when you pet her, mix in a soft elephant call. You can pet her, clap, cradle her to sleep, hang her upside down. Every action brings a variation of the same sound. Its a cooing/purring/ cartoon voice combined with blinking eyes. She does do the infamous Fingerling fart when you hold sensors in front of both ears at once. Its a cute gadget & I get the draw. The large black, blinking, anime inspired eyes. The geisha like giggling. I can see this as a kids toy or adult stress relief item like a spinner. The Fingerlings grip will only slide onto small fingers & the arms & legs do not move, its hard plastic. The entire toy is heavy, as it holds 4 watch sized batteries, casing & Ninas voice box Also its rather large, as a whole, for a childs finger. Look at the pic on the page with the child model, Its as big as the kids whole hand. I know this review is more clinical than Omg, my kid loves it but, its the first time Ive held one & kinda shocked no review mentions the size & weight of this thing. I get kids want what they want & its nice to see something that pulls them out of a digital world. For fifteen bucks, I guess it cant hurt. Just feel like the next step is a robot dog vs the connection of a real pet. Maybe its better sitting on a desk or a nightstand than a finger but it is cute.

My kids really enjoyed playing with this character. They thought she was so pretty. They played with her a lot. The quality seemed very good. My kids aren’t always the gentlest, and the toy did just fine. It seemed durable. It is very pretty. It is made well. There are a lot of details to it, which are really nice. My kids can just spend hours with characters. It just beats them staring at a screen. This would make a nice gift, too. I would recommend it.

It promises more than it delivers as the voice recording is all but impossible, especially for young children. But it does make some silly noises and stuff so it has some redeeming value for the kids.

I couldnt even count how many Fingerlings weve ordered for our Daughter in the past, but she really loves this one in particular. She likes elephants, but this one is a pink elephant, on top of that. So it really takes the cake. Really easy for her to use and play with. She likes the way that it interacts with her. And some nights, she takes to having it in bed with her when its time to go to sleep. Its just comforting to her, so we appreciate that part as well. Definitely makes for a great gift, our Little Princess just has so much fun with hers.

Absolutely adorable however it takes a bit to figure out the movements and the reactions. The little one loves it and its driving the adults crazy, so Id say its a hit.
