Works well and as expected on Win 10 and 11 Dell Computers, about same speed as fast flash drives. Is slightly bigger than full size flash drive. LED light is good Would be better if drive came in a storage box. Is a USB-A drive with a USB-C extender, which is what I want. It does not break up files larger than DVD size, which non-SSD flash drives do. This drive works with my converter box which records over-the-air TV to it. For this reason alone, I think this drive is outstanding, because I have found that many flash drives have problems with these type of devices but this one does not. It sometimes needs an extra minute to boot up with the converter box but this is no big deal. I would buy this drive again if needed., but wish it came with a storage case of some type. Note that I am actually reviewing the 2 TB model.

This is a USB SSD 1TB stick for use with a PC and PS4/PS5 console (and Xbox Series). I only have a PC and PS5, the PC was able to read this right away without a problem. So if youre wanting this for PC use, its ready go out of the box. The Playstation 5 is a notoriously picky console with both internal M.2 SSDs and any external HD/SSD you give it, so this being an annoying setup came with the territory. The first order of business is making sure to follow all procedures when using this on a console, make sure your console is fully powered off when removing or inserting this, this is also true for any external SD or HDD you use. Rest mode is not fully powered off state, make sure its off. Im gonna over the installation process, if you want my summary review itll be the last paragraph. The next order of business is on the PC, insert this on a PC, find and use Buffalos download page for the firmware updater and format tool called DiskFormatter2. My device came in late November and the firmware tool said it was already up to date, the probability theyre all running on the latest firmware is high these days but it doesnt hurt to take a minute to check. Following that just use Buffalos DiskFormatter2 tool to format it back to NTFS, leave everything on default NTFS values. Before doing this this Ive tried the Windows 10 built-in formatter and a 3rd party to use this as NTFS and eXFAT and even FAT32, the PS5 would refuse to format it as extended storage. Once the format is complete just put it in one of the USB back ports of a PS5 and format it as extended storage, youre done. If you come across any issues with the PS5 refusing to recognize it or refusing to format as extended storage, retrace my steps and make sure it is firmly set in place (the light will be on during use). For anyone who doesnt read or has misconceptions: the Playstation 5 usage this is for storing and playing PS4 games on it. Sony has said no external HD or SSD will play PS5 games for the foreseeable future. If you want to backup and play PS5 games, you want an M.2 SSD internal solution. This external drive only functions in the back USB ports of the PS5, this is by Sonys intended design and holds true for any SSD or HD external you bought elsewhere, do not place this or other external drives in the front drives ever. I used this briefly on the PC and safety ejected it after setting it up for PS5, never take any shortcuts with any external SSDs, safety first for the health of the drive. I bought the Buffalo SSD USB stick because of its small form factor as a PS4 games storage device on my PS5, its nice that I can use it on my PC if I ever want to. The USB can be difficult to deal with when attaching on the back of the PS5 because its a retractable design, a blessing and a curse. On a PC you can use an USB anywhere so it really isnt an issue but the PS5 only accepts USB external drives from the back so be gentle when installing it. This type of technology in this form factor is new and it works. The reason I dont give it a perfect review is because of how utterly annoying it was to format it as extended format on PS5, you need to use Buffalos DiskFormat2 tool otherwise the PS5 will recognize it but it wont let you format it for extended storage with a generic error message. Im not sure if this is more Sonys fault for their notoriously difficult and picky internal and external solutions. Its also as I said a bit difficult to safely attach on the back, but otherwise it does what its supposed to do on PS5: Store and play your PS4 games on it.

    This SSD is fantastic!

    Greater than one week

Overall it is good and fast. The only thing is size, a bit large. If size could be smaller, would be more popular.

I got the disc version of the PS5, but found that I prefer the downloaded game versions. I filled up the space pretty quickly. This 1TB drive was a good value to add extra room for a growing collection.

So far this SSD has been much more reliable than the HDD it replaced. Storage seems accurate with decent tranfer rate. My only complaint is that the connector is recessed roughly 5mm, meaning some third party connectors (like those needed to use the drive with low power devices like Raspberry Pis) need to be shaved down to fit.

I bought the 1TB version on sale for $69. The Buffalo name has been around for quite a few years, so I don’t consider them an off-brand, but when I saw this 1TB USB drive for such a low price, I was pretty skeptical and wondered if it wasn’t some knockoff company trying to sell their garbage as the Buffalo brand. I figured since this was still Amazon I’d give it a try since I could always return it if I felt I got scammed. I’m used to the nice metal casing and overall “heft” you get when you buy drives like the Corsair GTX so when this Buffalo arrived, I was nearly positive I got scammed because the plastic casing they use is quite cheesy and very lightweight. It almost feels like it’s going to break if you carry it around in your pocket. Nevertheless, I plugged it into my computer and it did indeed show up as 1TB. I’m aware that there are plenty of knockoff USB drives out there that use creative formatting and bogus firmware to trick your computer into thinking it’s a large drive, so the first thing I did was clean it off and create a brand new partition (which did format as 1TB). After that I started copying ~930GB worth of media. This is where I started to realize this was a legitimate drive because it sustained ~115MB/s of write speed (I was copying from the network and this is nearly it’s maximum throughput) throughout the entire copying process. Once it was done, I played each of the copied files and skipped throughout various portions to make sure the entire thing copied correctly. You know what? It did. Every single one was perfect so this drive is definitely the real deal. This drive isn’t $69 anymore, but it looks like it’s still on sale so if you want a fast/large drive you can carry around with you, then I would recommend giving this Buffalo a try. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the casing they use is pretty chintzy.

The Buffalo SSD-PUT is an award-winning external SSD stick (Solid State Drive) that gives you affordable fast, secure file storage that you can fit into your pocket. With its durability, compact form factor, and lightning fast SSD speeds, you can always have your data with you. The portable and powerful SSD allows you to easily back up all your data without needing to upload them the cloud. Even if you are in a remote location with no Internet, you will still have a backup of all your files. The best budget SSD drive in a compact flash drive form factor. Available in 500GB & 1TB capacities.
