Fiebings Tan-Kote (4oz) - Resin Based, Easy-to-Use Top Finish Creates a Mellow Gloss and Rich Shine

I have been doing custom leather work for 15 years and recently tried Tan-Kote as an alternative to Tandy Satin Sheen. Tan-Kote is easy to apply, dries to a nice satin finish, and leaves a flexible protective layer to the leather. It does darken light colored leathers, so if you intend to use this, it would be wise to test it on a sample piece before you put it on the leather item you want to cover. It does not appear that the coating is waterproof, at least it wasnt after two light coatings on veg-tanned leather. It also appears that this coating is water-based, which makes cleanup much easier. My initial description is that Tan-Kote is a better finish than Tandy Satin Sheen and less of a hassle than the lacquer finishes.

Perfect to re-edge your own purse strap. Sand side of strap with emery board, clean off powder, apply light coats to edge with q-tip. Very easy to do yourself with patience and steady hand.

The product did not live up to what I was led to believe. Disappointed.

I do a yearly deep clean on my saddle and re-oil it very well. I bought this product at the recommendation of a very high end saddle maker. After cleaning and oiling my saddle, it was nice, but it was dull looking. The leather had a flatness to it like flat paint does. I got this product to add a soft shine to the tooling and it did just that. You have to let it sit overnight after you apply it so it dries on before you buff it. Gorgeous soft glow like eggshell paint on all surfaces. The tooling really popped too! Cheap, and it works, and its easy to apply!
