> 24 hourFor a product that claims to be designed for heavy duty use, I was hopping to get some miles out of it before it fails. However my experience was the opposite, it failed me after plugging it on my computer couple of times. The speeds weren’t great either, but I was looking for durability rather than velocity. I understand that it was probably a defective unit. But When I try to get an EXCHANGE, I couldn’t do it without paying more money. To be fair customer service was trying to help me, but for some reason they couldn’t match the prices. At the end I ended up returning it, and look for something better.

> 24 hourThis external drive has been nothing but junk from the day I got it. I have spent numerous hours attempting to get this 5 TB drive to work properly, but one day it will mount, the next day it will not mount. This has caused me to reformat this drive at least a dozen times. I got so fed up I called customer service and because it was under the three-year warranty, they told me to send this in for repair. Sounds great right? Is there anyone out there that feels secure about sending all their personal data to someone they do not know, where they can access the drive and get to your banking and personal information? Of course theyre going to tell you that they are safe and can be trusted. I personally know of a tech rep who worked on the receiving end of these products that were sent in for repair. He absolutely agreed with me stating never to trust them. So I am stuck with a paperweight that never worked right from the beginning. I have 11 other western digital external hard drives and five of them failed within the first year. I will never buy another western digital product again. Save yourself some headaches and money and do not buy this product. Customer service gets a 3 out of 10 stars.

> 24 hourSeems Im not the only one - the drive does not show up in Windows 10 with the provided cable. Ive tried it on 3 different machines - all have the proper USB 3 ports all recognize other hard drives with the same cable. There is no support. You will not get help. You will, if your experience is the same, pay hundreds of dollars for a rugged, blue, well-built paperweight. Stay away - this thing cant do even the simplest of things every other USB device can do. I cant offer anything more. Because the thing is just a piece of junk. Its not formatting - it doesnt show up to even be formatted. Its not user error or misunderstanding. Its just garbage in, garbage out.

> 24 hourI purchased the 5TB as a master back up, wanted to back up 2 computers plus other files... only problem was? My computer did not recognize it, Despite a manual search, an IT expert remoting in ... nada...I am far from a computer dummy - but I called in a favor just in case I missed something....but no...it whirred continually for 10 minutes straight. My other externals work flawlessly (WD & LaCie) I have lost faith in this brand and will not gamble with my files again.

> 24 hourThis is my first review and Im doing this as a warning to others to prevent them from being in my position. I bought this hard drive to backup my photos somewhere that I though I could trust but I guess I was wrong......very wrong. I do a lot of wildlife photography and filled the drive up with just 2 months of pictures. I then disconnected it and set it to the side where it didnt get moved or bumped or anything. I went to see if I had enough room for a days worth of photos and then started to hear the clicking death along with a scratching noise. It immediately stopped reading and I disconnected it from my computer.

> 24 hourI’m not too happy so far with the product I purchased, although it was a valuable and necessary purchase for me. I was thinking it would be simple, I can simply hook it up to my computer and began saving data but that hasn’t been the case! For whatever reason I have not been able to connect to my computer with it, so at the moment I am having a hard time getting everything together.

> 24 hourI’m an animator and use a lot of drive space and I move data everywhere including across my Intranet to bigger NAS drives. I use 20+ different programs between Mac and PC so this drive was perfect. This has become my PORTABLE working drive for my Macbook. I partitioned it with a 25% PC and a 75% MAC partition (the Mac can do this) so I can run Native Mac apps with it, but also transfer files To and From my PC. The Mac can use both partitions and the PC only sees the PC partition. Its fast and I’ve off loaded a lot of data from my Macbook freeing up space and I have all of my PC files at my fingertips with tons of free space left over.

> 24 hourWorks really well. Whisper quiet. Does not get hot. Computer shows you have a full 5tb. The cables that with it DO NOT fit into an thunderbolt port on 2013 iMac or MacBook Air. I thought it was thunderbolt but I don’t think it is. This is USBC and USB 3. That’s it.
