> 3 dayHaving owned a Bissell for 10 years, it finally crashed, and the search to replace was on. Visited Costco and they had another Bissell, but after looking it over, just wasn’t impressed with the changes made on the newest model. An internet search gave two choices – Hoover or Bissell. Hoover had the top 4 models, and after seeing what Bissell was selling, went for Hoover. Guess what, Hoover has a dozen different models. After reading a 100+ reviews on various models, I Chose the FH50150 (#3 on the list). And could not be happier. Pro’s: Easy assembly. Each tank slips-in, or locks in-place without having to force it – just take your time; access to tanks – excellent. No belt drive for brushes and they clean better than a roller bar since they scrub in multiple directions. Waste water container is separate. Rinse option – big plus. No hoses or attachments connected, only connect when needed – this too is a big plus as attachments get in the way when cleaning the carpet. Dis-assembly for cleaning is easy. Con’s: Power cord too short, could use another 5 feet, 10 feet would be better. Cleaner mix is preset. Having used multiple machines, degrees in cleaning carpet are all about the same on the surface. However, brushes scrub deeper, in multiple directions, and fluff up the pile better; this also loosens the fibers better for cleaning and allows more water to be sucked out – which reduces drying time. You can feel the difference when walking barefoot on the carpet – softer. If you haven’t cleaned your carpet in years and its really bad – call a professional Steam cleaner, or you will be there all day just to clean. This is not to say that the Hoover can’t do the job, but it is made to maintain, and if used regularly will keep carpet clean and fresh – will never need to call Stanley again. First time Carpet Cleaning techniques: First, pre-vacuum Slowly and in multiple directions. A good vacuum will pull up all the hair, dust, loose dirt, and open the carpet fibers for cleaning – if done correctly you won’t muck-up the carpet cleaner brushes with hair and loose fiber when you wash carpet. Second, use boiling hot water, pour into fill tank (it can take it), select rinse only, apply water while pushing slowly forward and then apply water while slowly pulling back over the same area. Slow is the key. One tank will do an 8 x 8 area, and take about 3-5 minutes. After initial rinse – repeat entire process with the second pass in a different direction. This loosens the fibers, gets out a ton of dirt, and prepares the fibers for cleaning. Next, add cleaner to tank (don’t fill to top). Continue using boiling hot water. Select wash and First apply while pushing slowly. Note: when pulling, the vacuum will suck up the soapy water as soon as you put it down, you need to give the soap an opportunity to get in there and clean. Then continue applying wash while pulling back over same area – you can pull back a little faster. After fill tank is empty, go over area again. This allows brushes to work fibers and remove excess water, you can also do this step a little faster. Move on to next section of carpet and repeat till room is washed. If you have light colored carpets, may want to do this whole wash process twice. Now its time to rinse the Carpet. First, empty out any cleaner in the fill tank, the selector may leak a little. Next, fill with Boiling hot water. Select rinse, and apply water while Pulling back only, and do this slowly. Then push forward over the same area to suck up any remaining water and dirt, Do Not Apply Water. Continue. If you are getting a lot of suds in the waste bucket, may need to rinse area again – recommend rinse area twice. After final rinsing, here is a technique. Do another rinse, only this time add about 2 tbl spoons of Downy fabric softener to the water (can use cold, but recommend hot). Use the same rinse technique and apply – this can go a little faster. Leaves a clean fresh smell. Allow carpet to dry, then vacuum. You will notice carpet is significantly softer. Average bedroom takes about an hour, living rooms about 3-4. If you have established dirt paths in your carpet, go over area 4-5 times, and always overlap. Don’t be discouraged after a dozen passes and you are still sucking up dirty water, it’s just the way it is. The key is Hot Water, and go slow. If dirt comes back around old stains after a couple of weeks, most likely too much soap was used and not rinsed out. Hot water rinse with the machine will usually take care of it, this also works well for new pet stains. Have had good success Using Platinum Plus for pets for cleaning stains. If you have a lot of pets, mixing a ¼ to ½ cup of vinegar in the final rinse works. However, it takes a while for the vinegar to evaporate, especially in humid regions, and this may affect the carpet, and this may strip out anti-stain in the carpet – test first. For stains that won’t come out – a weak bleach solution – suggest “Clorox Cleanup”, sprayed on the area and lightly scrubbed in with a wet rag works well. Allow to sit for a minute, use the hot water rinse and go over about 3 times. Repeat until stain is gone – also, overspray around stain to “Blend out” the bleaching process or you will have a white spot (do a little at a time and you will be all right). Last words on the Hoover. Dis-assembly for cleaning is simple and easy. Wash everything, be sure to clean black filter screen in waste water tank, allow all to dry, assemble and put away. If vacuum isn’t working while in use, dump waste water and try again. Sometimes just taking waste water tank off and re-seating does the trick. If water is too sudsy, will cause yellow float in waste water tank to stop suction – dump out water and rinse lid, or turn off, allow float to drop, and turn back on.

> 3 dayMy Hoover Powerscrub XL Pet machine is Great – outcleaned all the spray cans and rented Rug Dr.s and Bissels I’ve tried. I was hoping to save carpets, instead of replace them after 4 years of spot-treating for cats and dogs, feet, food and wine spills. The carpet got so bad the animal smell just didn’t go away, even right after I spent $$ on a rental machine. A friend suggested I look at the carpet with a black light. When I recovered from gagging, I looked at a lot of machine reviews. There were 4 or 5 that looked pretty good. Besides good reviews, I chose this Hoover for the option of whole-floor or spot cleaning with the hose, and for the price. WHAT I LIKE about it: Besides just getting the carpet super-clean, I like the cleanser-dispensing bin. No need to mix cleaner into every new tank of water. One fill of the dispensing bin lasts for several tanks. It’s very light, so easy to operate even when full. Even with my multiple runs over every area, two fills of the clean-water bin did a standard-size bedroom. The machine also cleans up very easily. SUGGESTIONS: Pay attention to the machine’s directions. Its not exactly same as the rental models. At first look, I was afraid the clean water bin didn’t fit as it didn’t drop completely into the machine, but when filled with water, it fit fine. Be sure the dirty-water bin is properly set in, AND prime the machine according to directions, so the water will pick up. You can clearly see it come up into the bin. I recommend the professional cleaning solution – especially for pet-mess problems. Be patient. I made numerous runs in multiple directions over every piece of floor, and even more on stains. End result, even the worst stains disappeared under normal light, and with the black light, about 95% to 100% disappeared. And – NO more bad smells! I have NOT yet used the hose or hand tools so can’t review them. Some machines I reviewed had a feature to keep the water hot. I found this unnecessary. In addition, I wasnt worried about how wet the carpet was -- I just planned to let it dry overnight.

> 3 dayIt’s okay as far as a do- it-yourself carpet cleaner- they’re ALL not fun to use! It didn’t work so well on a thin rug on my hard floor- wouldn’t suck up the water very well- but okay on carpet. The squeegee attachment for hard floors was NOT in the mesh bag or box as described in the manual. I’m impressed with the hand held attachments, though.

09-06-2025I like this machine! We previously had a different brand, and we had to take it apart several times to get the suction going again/get it to work at all. It just stopped being worth the hassle. I wont name the brand, because we also had a house dog while we owned that shampooer, and now we dont. So a comparison may not be fair. Some people are complaining about certain things. I dont presume that they dont have valid complaints, but I will address a couple of them from my experience. I will also mention a few things Ive learned. Rusting/freezing up: I have used it probably 5 times, and have not had a problem. I always go over the carpet with just suction when I am done cleaning. I dump the water out of the clean and dirty tanks. I clean the filter and let it, and the dirty water tank, air dry before putting it back together. Maybe these steps help with the rust issue. Leaking: the only leak problem I had was on the first use: the soap dispenser drained completely, after only using it on one small carpet. I knew that was way too much soap (but wow, the carpet was clean!) I contacted customer service online. The guy was sympathetic but said he had never heard of this problem. I said I would try it again to see if it did it again, suspicious that I had done something wrong. My conclusion: user error. When replacing the dirty water tank, there is a lock on the front of the machine. It should snap into place and make a noticeable click when it is correctly placed. When it was not nested correctly, it caused the soap release button to be continuously pressed, causing soap to dispense all the time. So I have not ever had that problem again. Customer service: The rep I spoke with emailed me with a follow-up note, to ask if I was still having problems. I was impressed that he took that step. Since I had fixed my own error, all was well. I did not need further help, so I cant comment on how that might have gone. This cleans well, but Im sure it is not as good as a commercial shampooer. I have found that I may need to spot-treat some stains. For food or pet stains, one or two treatments with a pet stain cleaner with enzymes, prior to shampooing, does wonders. For very dirty, high traffic areas, I hit those first with the wash setting. Then I go over the entire carpet on the wash setting, then rinse well, and one more time with no just suction. I do think that the drying feature seems to dry it more than my previous machine did. My previous machine also had a heater for the clean water. This machine does not. I only fill it with hot water, and it is used up within 15 minutes, so I think this works just fine. One irritation I have is that the tanks never need attention at the same time, and I found myself stopping every five minutes to dump the dirty water, or fill the soap or clean water reservoirs. So now if one tank needs attention, I take both and dump/refill all in one trip. I can keep going longer that way. A very simple fix. There are attachments to use on upholstery or small areas. They are stored in a bag, which is not as convenient as having them all snapped right onto the machine. I have not used them yet, so I cant comment on how well those work. Also, I do not use the Hoover brand of soap. I make my own. I know that this is not recommended, and may void any warranty. Do so at your own risk, but I have not had any problems doing so. This was $130 when I bought it in 2018, and I have used it several times. We dont have a lot of carpet, but ours gets pretty dirty. My nearest place to rent a commercial shampooer is 20 miles away, and it costs $30 per day to rent. I have gotten my moneys worth out of this machine already. I hope it keeps running for a long time, but even if it doesnt, I am a satisfied customer. I am paying for convenience-no trips to pick up and return- as well as cleaning my carpet. If I wanted one to last for years and years, I would not expect to pay this amount. I am sad that some manufactured things these days end up being disposable, but I also dont want to fork over 3-5 times the amount for a more heavy-duty machine.

> 3 dayI always say I will write a review and I never do. This carpet cleaner gave me the motivation. Cons: seriously, none! Pros: -There are separate tanks for water and solution. A person like me who doesn’t want to read directions cannot mess this up. -There are attachments that make it so simple to clean things other than carpet. I cleaned the stairs, the dining room chairs (gross, by the way), and my car. One attachment even has an oscillating brush! The smaller attachments were perfect for cleaning the car. -Every part that gets dirty in the cleaning process is removed- easily removed. I was able to simply remove each part and take them to the utility sink instead of taking a toothpick to the machine like I’ve done in the past. -It did a great job of cleaning! My dining room chairs were so gross. Never get cloth dining chairs when you have kids. Anyway, the water that was coming out of there as it cleaned…. Yeah, it does a good job cleaning. If you’re going back and forth between this cleaner and another, I can’t speak for any other cleaners, but this one is truly perfection.

> 3 dayPros: My background.. 2 people, no kids, 8 year old Carpets. Did what it said, removed all stains, dirt and poo and pee. Used Hover deep clean and restore. My case this completed the job with some to spare. 3 bed rooms average size 14x14 and 3 rugs 2-8x10 and 1-5x7. This thing really picked up a lot of dirt! Water was black!! Carpets are clean with no stains this beats paying a company to rip you off (no naming)!!! Cons: Kind of cheap all plastic and you need a philips screwdriver to complete. Had to fill and empty containers about twice per room. Other than that it works!

> 3 dayI’m coming back 6years after buying this to share my love and appreciation for it!! Best investment ever! 6.5years later it’s still transforming and reviving the WHITE upholstered Restoration Hardware chairs I stupidly bought before having **3 children**… The picture doesn’t do it justice. Without this device I would have had to spend hundreds on new chairs, but an hour with this tool every 6 months keeps them looking presentable. 9 times out of 10 I just used the attached handheld hose (vs the full on carpet cleaner) but it’s nice to have both and is not too heavy/cumbersome to move around the house.

> 3 dayThis is a great machine. Simple to use and put together. I can imagine for larger areas you will need to stop and dump the water intake tank, however that should be no reason not to buy it. I was amazed at how well it cleans. We had a professional carpet cleaner come in, and a couple weeks after we needed to spot treat a dog urine mess. I was very much impressed with how much dirt came up, along with the urine, even after the professional cleaning we had done not too much time before. Very much worth the money.
