> 3 dayWell, this joist tape is sticky. It is black and it is thick. Easy to peal and apply. It is super sticky so it stays where it is put, and is hard to remove once it is set. I used this to cover the top edge of the 30 year old beams and joists when I replaced the decking boards on my deck. Will it work? Will it prevent rot? It seems like a good idea. I will never know. By the time that the deck boards are removed years from now I likely will not be here to find out. Others have noted that they found it hard to cut. I have some advise. Do not use a knife. Scissors work best. It took some practice but I found that I had to cut steady and slowly so as not to cause the tape to separate from the plastic backing. If you get any of the sticky goo on your scissors, you are done and need to clean the scissors before cutting again. I used a clean rag and some carb cleaner to refresh my scissors when they got gummed up.

> 3 dayThis tape is better than described. I applied it to the tops of my joists and stair stringers (glossy black strips in the photo). I wish Id know about it 10 years ago otherwise Id not be replacing my stringers. The tape withstands several step-board on and offs to install railing posts and the tape will not ride up the screws. If youre looking to extend the life of your exposed decking support structures this stuff is easy to work with.

Greater than one weekI recently installed about 800 feet of this on a very large deck we are having built in Florida. The previous all wood deck had rotted. Were replacing that deck with 25-year Trex and using ground contact lumber for the joists and framing. The previous frame had rotted from the top down, primarily associated with screw penetration used to attach the wooden decking. I wanted to give this deck as long a life as possible. Since its brand new, I dont really know if the joist tape will work for its intended purpose (sealing screw penetrations), so my rating is based on quality of product, ease of application, durability during the construction process, comments from our deck contractor, and cost compared to its main competitor sold by Trex. Its easy to apply, albeit youll sometimes get a bit of butyl on your hands. Just remove a bit of the protective film from one end and leave the tag end sticking out to the side, stick that end to a joist, line up and lay about 3-4 feet of tape on the joist, hold that end down with your thumb, reach back to the film and pull it down to your thumb and stick it, smooth the tape with your hand, and repeat. The contractors said it actually made laying the deck faster because the decking tended to stay in place as they were laying it, the plastic facing grabbed the hidden plastic fastener so it didnt move, and once installed, the black plastic fastener was hard to see against the black facing. The tape also held up remarkably well to being walked on and having boards dragged over it, though I did have to make a few repairs. Because of delays in getting our full order of Trex decking, the tape on part of the deck has been sitting exposed to rain and sun for several weeks and still looks great. Its about 30% less expensive than the competing brand, but I didnt use the competitor, so I cant compare quality. Also, the customer service was great. I underestimated the amount needed and the company owner made sure I received my reorder on time and at no additional cost.

> 3 dayI made some joist repairs on my 900 sq ft deck. I made th repairs in early August. Based on other reviews I really hope this product extend the wood joist life by 3 - 4 yrs.

> 3 dayReally like this tape. I’m tearing out an old deck and replacing with composite, the tear out left screw holes I was worried the holes(and some splintering) would trap water and cause rot - this stuff seals it all up very nicely.
