> 3 dayWorks as expected. I followed the advice in the directions about is facing downwards and it has been through some crazy rain storms and still is functioning. My only issue is the rubber plug cover broke off when I was trying to open it up. Oh well. It doesnt really matter since I will have a cord plugged into it anyways. It was just a way to keep the cover with the unit. I will just have to see if I will every remember to find the cover in the junk drawer when I store the smart plug. The picture attached shows where the little rubber tether broke. I would recommend this product thus far. I did not try any Alexa integrations. Though I do link this through the Samsung Smartthings App, and that works. Though you get a little more information in the Kasa App about the usage. I will say I have an disappointment in the smart plugs I find now versus the ones I used to get. I am not really finding any that give power usage.

> 3 dayLet’s face it - if you’re interested in buying this. You’re probably interested in setting up some outdoor string lights that you’d like to dim, and more importantly add to something like home assistant. You’ll probably never dim the lights, and once you set up a automation probably never touch that either. But it’s all about setting it up and getting it to work right? It’s not like your wife is going to be super excited by how the string lights can be set at different brightness levels for different people outside :) With all that out the way. This is actually smaller than expected, but with the smaller size comes a smaller cord. So you’ll to decide if you want this hanging off your outside outlet or drop in an extension cord. It also connect super easily (local) through to home assistant. Where you can quickly set it up to act as a light entity. Then all the really nerdy stuff of setting up pointless automations can begin. Overall - I’d recommend it - just probably not going to be the coolest thing your wife has seen.

> 3 dayI have several TP-link Kasa Smart Plugs and a Kasa light switch, so I wanted to match my outside plug for the Christmas lights I had up on my fence. I couldnt find anything and then came across this. I didnt know or even think if my Christmas lights were dimmable, but knew it would still work if they werent. Lo and behold my lights were dimmable; so, I set it at 75% and put the lights on a schedule and it all worked perfectly, and was visible/availble for control in my Kasa Phone app where I set up the % brightness and schedule.

> 3 dayBelow is my 3 star rating which Im changing to 4 stars now that Ive done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip - but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasnt the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and youre using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. Im going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5. Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip: This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. Thats the good - now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb - and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldnt turn off all the way - they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says its waterproof but obviously isnt. Im going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works.

> 3 dayMaybe during setup I didnt do something correctly. I own other Kasa products and they are remarkable. The response time on this is proving good. Very lethargic. I will continue to monitor it because there is a chance it could be the lights that I have plugged into it that are causing such a slow response.

Greater than one weekI was having difficulty with setting up the smart switch on the internet. The support rep, Hanson did a great job helping me figure out where I had made a mistake. The switch works like a charm. The software is easy to use. I love it!

> 3 dayI was able to use my Kasa app to automate turning my two lamps on at dusk at %18 then off at 11. Since I wanted to use the Edison Bulbs for they decorative purpose, i choose these, and they fit the bill.

> 3 dayThis works really well. The amperage of my motor is about 13 amps and I have had no problems with the 15 amp smart plug. I wish I would have bought a double smart plug since both can be programmed differently.

> 3 dayThis thing has seen two years of outdoor use without being unplugged. Its been completely under piles of snow and was still connected to our WiFi. Incredible!

08-06-2025Kasa is the best. This plug works perfect with Edison outdoor lights from Costco.
