Below is my 3 star rating which Im changing to 4 stars now that Ive done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip - but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasnt the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and youre using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. Im going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5. Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip: This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. Thats the good - now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb - and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldnt turn off all the way - they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says its waterproof but obviously isnt. Im going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works.

Works as expected. I followed the advice in the directions about is facing downwards and it has been through some crazy rain storms and still is functioning. My only issue is the rubber plug cover broke off when I was trying to open it up. Oh well. It doesnt really matter since I will have a cord plugged into it anyways. It was just a way to keep the cover with the unit. I will just have to see if I will every remember to find the cover in the junk drawer when I store the smart plug. The picture attached shows where the little rubber tether broke. I would recommend this product thus far. I did not try any Alexa integrations. Though I do link this through the Samsung Smartthings App, and that works. Though you get a little more information in the Kasa App about the usage. I will say I have an disappointment in the smart plugs I find now versus the ones I used to get. I am not really finding any that give power usage.

I schedule my lights to fade in after sunset, which looks really nice. I didn’t do my homework and found out it wasn’t HomeKit compatible upon arrival, which is mostly why I got it. But also, the Kasa ecosystem has been pretty acceptable to I’m not too worried about being stuck with their app for this device.

this is perfect for high humidity in my mushroom tent, I have over 20 kasa plugs and this one fit the bill for inside my tent with 95% humidity, I can dim or turn off my led lights inside, been using kasa plugs for over 2 years now with zero complaints

I like that I can have Alexa turn on my outdoor lights at night...Before I get home and have to stumble around in the dark. It was so easy to set up...I had to buy another one!

Does its job as a weatherproof smart plug. The picture, as of March 2023, is incorrect - it shows a straight plug (the male end), but TP-Link support informed me that the new hardware version (v1.26) of the KP401 has a bent plug (90 degrees from the direction of the cord), and the old hardware version with the straight plug isnt being made anymore. 4 stars instead of 5 because it wasnt as pictured, and getting an answer from TP-Link support was unnecessarily difficult.

Works good as a timer. There is no dimmer feature.

If you are using this for incandescent bulbs, just know the lowest setting is about 75% brightness. Otherwise, everything about it is great.

I needed this for outdoor lights that plugged in and worked perfectly.

I ordered two of these to control some deck lights and a pump for a water feature. I have other Kasa smart plugs so initial setup was easy with the app and it was a snap to add them to my homes Alexa app. One of the plugs would not connect to the Wifi from the deck in the back of the house, but swapping it with the other plug worked just fine. I imagine the range is not too consistent on all of these plugs. I had to re-setup (rename, etc...) the two plug which just took a minute. One is setup as a light control and the other is set up with a schedule to go on for a few hours each day to run the water pump. So far so good.
