> 3 dayI bought this because I have an internal CD drive but my PC case has no slot, and it works great. The read/write speed is exactly what the CD drive says it supports, and it burns properly. My last CD drive was one of those ones that just plug into USB, and while it could rip CDs, it could not burn them right. The CD would come out as static. This enclosure combined with the ASUS internal CD drive actually works though.

Greater than one weekI used it to transfer 400 music CDs of my fathers to the laptop and it reads very fast and does so without errors as far as I can tell.

> 3 dayI don’t know if this is the best external optical drive enclosure on the market, but it is really good. It is made of aluminum with no plastic facades unlike one of its competitors (the Vantec). Also unlike the Vantec, it is dead quiet with no noisy fan, so I can leave it on 24/7. I’ve only had it for a couple of days though, so I don’t know how the lack of a fan might affect the drive’s longevity, but my educated guess is that heat won’t be a problem at all. This enclosure is also a bit smaller than the Vantec. As you may have guessed, I have owned this OWC enclosure and the Vantec, and by far, I prefer this one. Buy with confidence.

> 3 dayI bought this to house a LG WH16NS40 Blu-ray burner. Ive only used it to burn a couple disks so far but it works just fine, no issues.

> 3 dayUsing this enclosure allowed me to repurpose the Blu-ray reader/writer from my old PC into a portable unit that I can now attach to any of my newer machines. Given that some of them dont even have the capacity for an internal CD-based media device, this comes in really handy in the event that I need to access my old media (including the CDs from my music collection). The USB connection works flawlessly in my Windows 10 (recently upgraded to Windows 11) system and integrates smoothly with any software that Ive used to read the various media involved. I can even unplug it and move it to storage when not in use, which keeps the clean look of my newer equipment intact as a result.

> 3 dayThe aluminum body is amazingly thick for how much I paid. It will definitely protect the drive. So far I have had no issues. Definitely would recommend.

> 3 dayJust what I had been looking for. Some months ago I purchased a new desktop PC. While looking I found out that pretty much unless you wanted to build your own or spend a lot of money on a specialty tower build, you are stuck with a dinky sideway mounted laptop optical drive. Call me old fashioned but the cheaper the drive the quicker the dive. (sorry for that, couldnt resist) I was right. Barely outlasted the warranty. So I figured why spend money for the same thing that probably wont last either when Ive got about 6 optical drives laying around from various other older computers. I chose to use the Blu Ray drive from my previous desktop computer and needed a reliable external interface option. After I found the OWC enclosure I was a little concerned about the fit having read some of the reviews but realized that those people having trouble with the fit were not paying close attention to the measurements given for the depth. If your drive is more than 6 3/4 long it is not going to fit. Also Im not sure why they give you the tray size (5 1/4) instead of bay size of 5 13/32 which is the width of most all standard optical drives and the measurement you are going to be concerned with beyond the depth (length) of the drive. My Blu Ray drive just happen to be an LG. It fits perfectly with plenty of room to spare. Before you buy, MEASURE YOUR DRIVE. If your drive is more than 6 3/4 long (deep) it probably will not fit. Except for a few OEM drives, most all optical drives should fit this enclosure as far as the other measurements go. If you are still in doubt, you can buy this same enclosure that comes with an LG drive. Problem solved.

> 3 dayA bit pricey for what it is. Also, the photo makes the product look white when its actually silver. Not a deal breaker, but was disappointed it wasnt what I was expecting.

> 3 daySO VERY GLAD I ordered this external drive enclosure! I couldnt be more pleased. Initially I considered this OWC Mercury Pro enclosure but the price put me off considering this was just a box. Instead, I ordered a different, less expensive external drive burner (not an enclosure). I was very disappointed in its performance. There were problems like: 1) empty folders of supposed transferred data, 2) inability to read a disc, and 3) a wobbly sound when a disc was put in the drive, sometimes it only idled - going round and round in the drive. Fortunately I discovered these issues while the device could be returned. After my experience with a less expensive external drive, I now understood the higher price of this external drive ENCLOSURE. It is a sturdy quality piece! My 2014 LightScribe burner fit perfectly into the enclosure drawer (my term for it; not sure of the proper technical name) and the connections, at the back wall of the drawer, were simple. Just plug them in. The burner is secured to the drawer with 8 screws on each side and the drawer is then slipped into the outer sleeve of the enclosure. The power adapter cable and the USB cable connect on the back side of the box. I plugged it into an outlet, put the USB cable into a port on my desktop, turned it on and it ran without any problems. I used it immediately. It works flawlessly. My advice - if you have a good optical drive (less than 6.77 deep) that you have not been able to use, BUY THIS ENCLOSURE. It is money well spent.
