Hue switches (and devices) are just too expensive. That being said they are very reliable. This switch is the first device from hue that’s actually worth the price. You can actually control 5 lights from one switch. The 4 buttons and the rotary ring can each turn on and off lights separately. There is a little work to figure how to turn on and off a light with a simple alternating short press it by default wants a short press to turn on and a long press to shut off. This is because a second short press (and third and forth) wants to change scenes. It is possible to make it short press on short press off you just have to play with the settings and it not too intuitive. The only other head scratcher is the ring can only be program to one light ( one that has a button programmed to it or a separate 5th light). I figured there would be a setting where the ring would follow whatever light you turned on but no luck. Maybe it will come with a future update. Also there is no way to configure the sensitivity of the ring so it takes too many turns to turn a light fully on and off. Again maybe a future update (are you getting my hints Phillips). Other than these minor downsides the switch is very reliable and convenient and the battery life seems to be good unlike the single button switch for which I must stock up on batteries. I’ll update this if something changes.

Yes, they are expensive, but they do what they are supposed to do. If you have a light that gets lots of action on a daily basis from the regular house residents and guests, then this is the solution. This is needed to avoid that pesky flip of the switch to turn off the Hue Lights that should always be on. Heck I live in my house and at times STILL flip the switch by accident! :-). This will keep those lights on no matter what! If the switch is on, GREAT, no issues, but if someone flips the switch to off, then still, GREAT, the lights will still work as they should due to this module always being on. Folk complaining that they are cheaper solutions, are just just being too picky. I mean, this solution lasts for years on the battery before you have to replace it. That’s a long time and longer than some people keep their cars. You don’t hear them complaining about that large purchase and wishing they went for the cheaper solution. Just get it cause it works and will work for the time you have it.

If you want to change up the lighting in your home, consider the Philips Hue lighting system. We moved into a new home and replaced most of our bulbs with Hue bulbs. This was not inexpensive unless you compare it to a home automation system such as Savant. You can control all of the Hue bulbs from your smartphone if you link it to your wifi network. This switch makes it easy to allow anyone in the home to turn on and off the bulbs and use some of the more basic functions - you get to control how you want to operate it, and it is extremely easy to configure with a great user interface.

This item makes a great gift for anyone who owns multiple Hue lights. Obviously the app or a voice assistant are more than capable of doing the job, having a movable wall switch for guests to use is invaluable. On top of that, after I got used to how I programed the buttons (i.e. what lights are triggered and what colors of lights to use), I found myself using the switch almost exclusively). While the price is crazy high, you wont think twice about it after purchasing and setting up. I had some bad luck trying to connect to my hub at first, but now that its connected my troubles are gone. I know not many users have that problem, but I will at least note here that I had to do a factory reset in order to find it in my Hue app

4 buttons, 1 dial. Each can be used to control a room or zone. Or, they can control one room or zone, using each button/dial to set scenes. I have already installed 4. They are great for zones or rooms that are visible from where you control the dial. I have a dial near my bed to control my bedside lamp, bathroom, sitting room and kichenette. I have another one at my door to control the same 4 zones. I also have 2 in my kitchenette: 1 to control the lights in all 4 zones and the other to control my kitchen equipment. Basically, I can control all lights from any zone using the dial, just like a phone would. If you are bothered by smudges on your switch, avoid the black one. They all work flawlessly!

Need a plug for a plug? This is the plug. Sync non hue lights to your hue vibes so you can control all of your lights from the Hue app. It’s a vibe; upgrade your plug.

Adding the Hue smart plug to your hub is just like any other Hue bulb. The advantage of using the Hue smart plug over the Innr smart plug is that this one is also HomeKit compatible. This smart plug just works!

Ive owned Hue products for about 10 years now, I think. Always innovative, but often expensive. I owned several of the old version of these switches and needed another one so I decided to go with the V2 one. I like it. Unlike the old one, where I would have to instruct guests to press the power button repeatedly to change scenes/brightness levels, now I can tell them the power button turns it on or off and the Hue button on the bottom changes scenes. It makes a little more sense to people, I think. You can, of course, customize the power and Hue buttons. I love that the Hue button can be pressed up to five times for different scenes. The separate brightness buttons are good, too. I like the V2 switch more than the V1 one for sure.

I have Hue so I try to get Hue products like this to integrate into the system. This one operates the Christmas tree. There was a day or two where this would flicker of and on on its own but over the course of several weeks, it did not occur again so as with all technology, I just chalked it up to some basic software hiccups that eventually work themselves out.

Firstly, go and do research on the difference between wifi, Bluetooth and zigbee. You will find that zigbee was made for light, low energy, long range, low data, natural mesh network. Ie the more you have the better the results, the opposite of wifi and Bluetooth. So, on paper, it’s the ideal solution. Secondly, I had tried wemo and amazon and cheap Chinese wifi smart plugs, and poured a lot of money into unreliable stuff. Including Amazon’s wifi smart plug, it is super unreliable and slow. Because I was short on time, didn’t do my research, and hue did not have a smart plug. I upgraded my router to the ASUS axe16000 and the smart plugs became super unreliable. I thought I was screwed. I had time, finally, to sit and read. And I understood zigbee, I saw hue already had smart plugs out now, and I already had the new hue bridge. So I bought four of these, because I had spent way more of the other stuff. And, right from go, super easy to install (just take your time, uninstall/rename previous plugs, rename these), and they respond super quick over Alexa, and every single time, all four, every morning and every night for a week. Wow. Not just that, but another hue strip light that used to be a bit unreliable is super stable and responsive now because of zigbee, I have two new plugs near it. They make a nice soft click, it sounds lush. Nice. I’ve had them a week and if things change I’ll update here for sure. Thirdly, if you are sitting there thinking “oh no I don’t want to spend $50 on a hue hub”, well, you’re going to spend a whole lot more on wifi smart plugs that will drive you nuts. Fourthly, I’m no longer paranoid about changing my router because … zigbee controls my lights.
