Great read

This book definitely reminds you to keep your business to yourself. Sad that the ones you think you can trust are the ones that secretly hate on you and want to be you. This was my first time reading anything by this author and I enjoyed it. Its pretty fast paced so it doesnt linger to the point you become bored. Granted there was one character that did somewhat bore me, but thats because the other 3 characters storyline was more interesting to me and I wanted to know how it turned out. I see its titled Volume 1. Not sure how it can be dragged out into another story, but Im willing to check it out if there is a Volume 2.

I hate reading books involving cheating. Its far worse when its your husband and best friend. Shaylas husband, Titus (Tee), and best friend, Rhonda, cheated with each other. You may ask how could a best friend cheat with your husband. To envy and to covet causes a multitude of sins. Mix in lust and you have the premise for this book. Rhonda envied Shayla, she coveted everything that Shayla had and lusted after Shaylas husband. Love cannot exist with those three, therefore Rhonda was never Shaylas friend even though they both thought they were BFFs. Titus was full of pride and was greedy for other women including his wifes best friend. Rhonda loved them both. Their deceit caused destruction to everyone involved. Every one included another friend of Shayla and Rhonda, Gladys. However Gladys has her own problems. Thats the premise of the book. It wasnt well developed nor were the characters. The book needs an editor in the worse way. The grammatical errors, missing words, incomplete sentences made the book difficult to read even if there was no cheating. Finally, the book ended abruptly with no resolution.

Secrets Of A Kept Woman by Shani Greene Dowdell . A really good book on thug life and how friendship betrayed you.

Who would have thought that a best friend, a BFF, would take your husband and get pregnant; send you can email stating that she hoped she would understand and even want to be a part of her life, her life with her husband and their child. That is messed up! Kudos to Shayla for cutting all ties with a back stabbing friend and a two timing no good for nothing husband.

What a read! In the end I didnt know if I should scream, cry, shout for joy or get mad. Wow! It was a heavy read. We meet three close friends: Shayla the smart one. Rhonda, the fiery of the bunch and Gladys, the Spanish salsa. They take different roads in life but their sisterhood remains. They have each others backs. Aint that the truth! Or is it? What happens when you throw a man in the mix? Can the invisible line drawn in the sand of sisterhood be crossed to a place of no return? Deep. Titus, a street thug who plays dirty while keeping his hands clean marries the love of his life; Shayla. Oh the bliss. Oh the merriment. Life for the two is perfect. They have all they wanted and more. However, as the years go by Shalay is feeling the distance between her and her husband grow wider. Shed confide in Gladis but she knows that she has enough to worry about what with her marriage barely holding on. She turns to Rhonda. The one with the ears always willing to listening. The one who constantly defends Titus like a brother. Shayla tells her everything. Every fight or disagreement to every intimate detail of their nights of romance. Rhonda never refuses to hear. She is always quick to give advice. What are sisters for? Yet she has her own evil motive. She wants Titus as well as all of what Shayla has. Forget the time Shayla took her in when her own mother kicked her out of the house. Sisterhood doesnt matter in the game of love and war. She is set on ending the marriage with each lingering kiss she plants on Titus skin and with each moment they spend in the adulterous bed filled with sweet roses and their thorns. The secrets of a kept woman is spiced with adultery, betrayal, abuse, and revenge. But in the end a beautiful thing springs forth; strength. The strength to move on and the strength to continue on. When I saw Gladis and Shayla displaying this strength I felt proud having cursed them throughout the read. What can I say, those two were my favourite characters. If anyone deserved some happiness after the smokes cleared it was those two. Dramatastic is how Ill describe Secrets Of A Kept Woman. Trust me it will not leave you bored for a minute. This book was ok I was about to stop reading it , then I was hook and wanted to see it though,on to book 2 now was recommended by UniqueWords,LLC.

Many people especially Blacks often wonder why most Black women dont get along with one another? It could be anything from jealousy to gossip. Some Black women dont have a lot of female friends. They feel as though, they always keep quarrel going on. From award winning, self-published author, Shani Greene-Dowdells second novel and best-seller, Secrets of a Kept Woman, it dignifies friendship between three females who grew up in the setting of Opelika, Alabama and how it all can come crashing down because of various lifestyles they live. One of the main and leading characters, Shayla Wilson, a fine young woman has it all of one of luxurious homes, the South can offer as well as her big balling husband, Titus Wilson. After Shayla helps him build an empire that stretches across the country during the beginning of their marriage, she has found herself on numerous occasions homesick from isolation of love by Titus. Shayla becomes a mentally and emotionally scarred wife. Today, a lot of Black women are bitter towards Black men because they feel as though, once theyve had a hand in getting men to the top in life, the men trash them. So, Shayla turns to her best home girls and characters, Rhonda Jackson and Gladys LaQuinn for comfort. Rhonda and Shayla seem to be the closest out of the three ladies as they all call themselves sisters from another mother. But because of Rhondas neglectful childhood, shes in the midst of stealing one of her friends most prized possession, their man and will not stop at anything until she succeeds in her scheme. Gladys has enough of her own problems as shes torn between a current lover and an old college sweetheart. Greatly, Shani Greene-Dowdell wove through pages of chapters in third to second person. She even gives Shayla, Titus, Rhonda and Gladys their own voices. The plot thickens of good nonstop drama as each individual tell their side of different situations. Betrayal, infidelity, domestic violence and murder plays a pivotal role in their lives. Its actually for better or worse. Towards the end, relationships drastically change between Shayla, Titus, Rhonda and Gladys. New bonds form and even chances of new life being brought into the world, which probably wouldnt exist when all the turmoil was happening. Some of them are able to pursue dreams, they had put on hold since, after high school. Still, it will never be the same. Its like, each person for self. Whether youre a feminist or strong believer in the unity and support of females, Secrets of a Kept Woman is a must read. This novel is a superb addition to African-American Fiction. Real friendship is hard to come by and what is done to KEEP it. Shani Greene-Dowdell stays true to that aspect of life as the characters never die as they become more and more meaningful.
