> 24 hourI purchased this device because it was capable of running custom firmware like Tasmota and ESPHome (which do not require a cloud connection). The installation process was fairly easy. The gray side piece can pop off, and then two edge pieces slide out. After that just remove a few screws and it opens. I was a little disappointed that the serial connection points were not holes like some of the other Sonoff products I have used. However, I managed to apply the firmware without soldering by taping together a row of jumper wires and pressing them firmly against the contact points while the initial flash process ran. After that, I simply put it back together and its working perfectly with the custom firmware.

> 24 hourI have flashed the units with ESPhome, and am very happy with them. They have a great Wifi signal range, and am nothing but happy with them. To flash them I had to open them up and solder a few wires, and I was surprised to see the build quality of the PCB. They are using their own Wifi board, not like many other commercial units out there, which are using the standard ESP modules. And judging by the Wifi signal strength they did a very good job! Highly recommended if you want to have switched plugins which you can easily flash with alternative firmwares...

> 24 hourAugust 2021, the pin pads are easily accessible, no trouble flashing Tasmota to it. Disassembly was easy and non-destructive. Great build quality and extremely responsive. I’m running 6 of these, never had a problem.

> 24 hourI got my first Sonoff switch a few years ago. Had to wire it up myself, but it worked well. These S40s are terrific. Just plug em in. The connection is established with Bluetooth, and from then on theyre connected to the internet through the local router. Using eWeLink, you can turn things on and off in your house from anywhere in the world. Several years ago, it was disappointing that eWeLink was a phone-only application. But thats fixed. You can now have the app on your computer to control these guys as well. The S40s are dead-nuts simple to use. Once programmed, you can unplug them, and plug them in anywhere else in the house without changing anything. Its nice that theyre great, but theyre also available at bargain prices. Cheap thrill.

> 24 hourYou have to download the welink app. Not a fan of apps bc I use home assistant but it is what it is. When you set it up, look at the top for wifi, not bluetooth. Save you a few minutes of being frustrated. Works fine with Alexa, google, and smartthings. Easy integration.
