> 3 dayI had this up and running within 20 minutes of opening the box. Simple to use and picked up all of the frequencies in my area and began scanning by just hooking it up to my computer (cord was included) downloaded all of the updates and it worked. I took it to a neighborhood watch meeting, set it on the table, turned it on and everyone there was very very impressed. I recommend it!

> 3 dayEasy to use. Much better than a cell phone appams it is about 20 seconds faster than a delayed cell phone scanner app. I was hesitant to spend this much money on something like this knowing that a cell phone as an app that can do the same thing, not true whatsoever this thing is great, it’s faster than a cell phone and when you’re on a cell phone you’re only picking up one channel the scans them all this is a definite must buy I absolutely love it

Greater than one weekThis is my first scanner. Needed digital and analog for local police and fire. 22 miles from Boston and I can pick up Cambridge, Boston, MSP and local. Results may vary, its radio, and depends on line of sight and propagation. I really like the touch screen, if I want to lock on a channel when it is broadcasting, all I have to do is tap. Used Sentinel software to make favorites lists to cut down on scanning time. I was able to add my own custom FRS/GMRS channels including CTCSS tones. The home patrol unit has a quick frequency monitor feature that you can punch in manually via the touchscreen, or use Sentinel to edit your favorites lists. You can run it on power via microusb, or rechargeable battery. Battery lasts about 8 hours of continuous use, 14 hour recharge time, based on mAH entered into the options menu.

> 3 dayThis scanner is fabulous. I love not having to enter all the system info. I can just let it scan. It even works well with my Mac using Parallels desktop for Windows. Syncing isa very easy. The only things I wish it had were easier way to manage favorite lists from the scanner itself and the ability to set priority channels. I miss not having it switch to a priority channel when theres activity.

> 3 dayTime from Box on the porch to listening to the statewide trunk system was about 2 minutes. 4 Stars because I believe they should have included the advanced features for the same price. $50 to turn on features already included in the scanner is just profit mongering. I dont like these marketing practices, and Im voting with my stars. The scanner is well built, reasonably sensitive, easy to use, and well thought out and designed. As others have stated, the included rubber duck antenna is crap. I immediately took it off, used the included BNC adapter, added a right-angle BNC adapter, and a 19 whip I had nearby, and reception on all bands was improved. I need to get my discone antenna back on the roof, but thats another story... Beware, the charging circuit appears to be time based, not voltage based. If true, you can easily overcharge and destroy the batteries. Note to Uniden: Please add Mac and/or Linux support! OTOH, iOS and/or Android support would be cool. Not all of us are willing to use Windows. But again, thats another story...

> 3 dayThis is a really great scanner. Favorites lists are easy to create. I still havent figured out how to program Custom Service types. I hope this is not a part of the Upgrade feature. If any knows let me know. The receiver is extremely sensitive. I find using the Attenuate feature helps a lot in the Los Angeles Area. The record feature works great. Even though the scanner has a complete database in it. I still refer back to Radio Reference to help choose the correct group of frequencies for any service desired when creating favorite lists. I have not purchased the Upgrade feature. For now I do not need it. It was definitely a huge upgrade from my last scanner.

> 3 dayFollowing the start-up instructions, I had to find an old PC to plug into for what was supposedly a DB update. (We purged PCs from our home a few years ago.) Never got that to work. But it turns out the existing flash/ROM installed DB was just fine. The catch is, as a default it wants to scan EVERYTHING. So if you enter your ZIP code, it will give you ALL the frequencies you could possibly want... the entire state, your county, and your locals. With all that scanning, youll get nothing. So a quick trick is to use the FAVORITES option (easy to find and setup). Quick lookup online for your local and of-interest frequencies, manually enter them as favorites, and it finds the matching names in its database. Then youll have a nice, short list, of frequencies that you care about, and it will cycle through them quickly. And NOW youll enjoy all the features too. Very happy with this device. Sound quality is excellent. I wish the stand would lock in place though. Its a flimsy gravity-based shelf-type holder, entirely inappropriate for a $400+ device.
