Working well so far. Bought it to backup an iMac that has a 1TB hard drive that is about three quarters full. It seems slower than the Firewire hard drives I have because I only have USB 2 on my iMac and not USB 3 that the WD 3TB can use. Other than that the drive great: small size, high capacity.

I bought this as a back up for my files, I dropped my original WD and bought this as a replacement for a good price. In fact, I showed this to Best Buy so they can match the price ( $99) , when I needed to buy another one . JUst remember to buy 2 of these so you can back up your back up. I know it doesnt make sense but when you drop one , at least you have another and you did not lose all your files

I am not satisfied with this Product and will return it some time soon. This will be the second time Ive had to do this with this Drive - its a hassle when your Graphics dont read and get lost. I have a Seagate External thats only 500 Gigs, but has performed flawlessly for over 6 years compared to this WD Unit @ 1 Tb. Im a Senior Student and was a fan of Western Digital Products, in fact, my Daughter purchased the Seagate as a Christmas Gift to me. I bought the W.D. Unit just to mess with her and now shes kidding me about being Old School It seems Fragile and delicate and flakey + the only reason I havent thrown it in the Gulf of Mexico, is the fact that I purchased a warranty! When I can get it to show up on my Mac, Ill dump my Data on the Sea Gate External Drive - may need to inquire about another Sea Gate - THX Update I complained back in 2015, got a second unit and it crashed. Just remembered I was to wait on Amazon for a review, that was 2 years ago. I guess Im supposed to forget about it, but I didnt, still waiting for a resolution, so I just wrote this update because the unit is Crap - still!

I got this to use with a MacBook Air. Its easy to format it for use by a Mac. If you dont know how to do this or cant figure it out, maybe you shouldnt own a Mac in the first place, because it is seriously easy to do. Several reviewers here even spell out how to do it. Theres no need to pay $30 more for the same drive already formatted for a Mac, unless you enjoy setting money on fire. I use an Amazon case to transport this HD and keep it in my backpack. It takes up very little space. Ive dragged it all over the world, and so far, so good.

Im currently having a third-party company digitize 100 hours of old videocamera tapes. I use this device for their storing the converted files, and for a few other projects. This little device is perfect for off-loading and/or uploading video files, it is as simple as click & drag. Comes with a 3-year warranty, though Id like to know what the real expected life is for these devices.

I have quite a few WD external drives and have been satisfied with them over the years. I use them for backup of special sets of files. This one is brand new, so it is still working fine. The real test is a couple of years from now. Ask me then!

I had an older WD external hard drive that I was using for back up.I started having problems with the old one so ordered a new one. Initially I had trouble using this device with my MacBook Pro. After visiting the Apple Genius Bar it was suggested that the new cord connecting the new device to my computer might be defective. I ordered a new connector and it has worked now.

Once upon a time, I purchased an external hard drive with the intention of using it on my iMac and as it turns out, it was formatted for Windows. Yeah, I know, I should know better, but then again, should I? Its not like Im an IT professional and I bought one that seemed to be the right one for my computer, thinking that any ole external hard drive would fit the bill so long as it was a reputable brand and had enough memory, but oh was I wrong about that. After not being able to get it to work on my iMac (and after letting so much time pass that I couldnt possibly return it), I decided to donate it to my PC that also happened to need an external hard drive. So with this external hard drive that is, not just compatible with the iMac, but actually MADE FOR MAC (meaning that there is no need to format so that it will work on the iMac, since it is formatted to work with the iMac straight out of the box), we are in business again! Both my iMac and my PC are backed-up and it couldnt have been easier. For the non tech-person like myself, its nice to be able to just plug-in and have everything work without the formatting and hard-to-understand pop-ups... So far, everything is great and lets hope that it stays that way.

Works right out of the box with my Apple Mac Mini (Intel chipset), works with Time Machine or as an external drive to manually back up or store things. So easy, it gets a Wow!. It is for Mac, I think it can be beaten into MS Windows use but buy the version you need. If you do not back up your data, your photos, documents, emails, etc., sooner or later you will lose them. Purely a question of when, not if, a sure thing. Apples Time Capsule can work but its bloody expensive and wants to take over all WiFi duties, a pain unless that is what you want. This drive works so easily and flexibly, its inexpensive, Western is one of the good names for disk drives, so I recommend it. Back up to multiple devices and dont leave them together or a calamity that takes out your computer will take out the back-up drive next to it! People take so many photos these days, its important to guard them with a back-up, and other data are important as well. I use this with Time Machine for Apple-style incremental back-ups but I also store copies of my folders with photos, etc..

Ive had this for almost a year, worked great until yesterday. I plugged it in as usual, and the light comes on and you can hear it trying to work... BUT none of my computers will read it. It has a warranty, but I have no idea how to get ahold of someone to help me. Hopefully this review will help get me help! My life was backed up to this drive.

Secure and reliable, My Passport for Mac safeguards your creative life. Protect your important files with Apple Time Machine backups. Set an optional password, that only you know, to activate 256-bit hardware encryption and add an extra layer of security. Now, it"s easier than ever to back up your creative life and take it with you.
