> 3 dayHas worked great so far for my boyfriend, his mac book, and the large amount of go pro videos he had stored on his computer that are now safely migrated over to the WD. Only small problem is that hed like to migrate some of his files on his old PC onto this hard drive and is having difficulty doing so (I can only assume because its not formatted for the PC). I have not had a chance to look into this to see if there are any ways to overcome this, however I wish I had purchased the normal version of the WD for him - I have the normal version of the WD from a few years ago and have used it on both my mac book and my PC with no issue.

> 3 daydespite what WD says, this doesnt work natively with macs even after partitioned to. then when partitioned, it doesnt work with both. HD shut down completely. WD customer service was good and prompt (past amazon warranty) and not a lot of trouble. I now use it for just movies on a tv with a friends PC.

15-06-2025My wife loves to take pictures of our sons, this was a great addition as she was running out of room on the computer. In under 3 minutes she has upgraded her memory and backed up her files. The only problem is the cords seem to be a little long and are easy for the subject of her pictures to pull them out of the computer. Get this if you are low on hard drive space and dont feel the need to upgrade to a new computer.

Greater than one weekThe WD My Passport worked perfect the moment I plugged it into my MacBook Pro. My Mac now backs up hourly long as the My Passport is installed. This is so much cheaper than using a cloud back-up system. Ive had an older My Passport for my PC for years and it still works perfect.

> 3 dayPros: size and speed—excellent Cons: I had trouble with the initial installation because I followed the instructions to download an update. After I did so, the drive would disconnect after about 2 seconds. Finally, I discarded all WD files, restarted my laptop, and started over—this time using the old driver. Since then, I have not had any problems. The speed is phenomenal. I very quickly copied all my laptop files (with exception of system) to the little WD. However, I wrote to customer service about the driver version issue some time ago and have not received a reply—which makes me wonder about their actual service. (No, I did not call and will do that if I experience any further problems. I should add that Im using an older OSX version (Mavericks OSX 9.5.5), so perhaps the new WD driver is meant to work with newer Mac systems. One note: Make sure you order the WD drive specified for your operating system. I have a Mac and also got one for my husband, who works on a PC. By the way, he loves his. We neither one do an automatic back-up, though, because we dont leave our computers turned on all the time.

> 3 dayAwesome external hard drive! First off, the form and shape is very nice. Its more cube than the normally thin and wide external drives that youre used to. In terms of set up, you just connect it to your mac and start time machine, select this hd and it begans to back things up. The speed is awesome! My first backup was 340 gigs and was completed in about 30-40 minutes. Im very happy with this product.

> 3 dayFormatted for Mac OS X works with OS X Sierra, the Time Machine backup option appears upon plugin very handy. Speed 3.0 is much faster than older models. Compact design and secure connection to drive, fits in my case compartment just fine. Western Digital My Passport drives have never failed me so far.

Greater than one weekA little confusing to set up at first, but it holds everything I need it to and I was able to clear a lot of space on my laptop!

> 3 dayI have quite a few WD external drives and have been satisfied with them over the years. I use them for backup of special sets of files. This one is brand new, so it is still working fine. The real test is a couple of years from now. Ask me then!

> 3 dayOK. Here is where I trot out the stories of I remember... I remember when a 2.5 GB disk (we called it DASD) attached to a mainframe and sold for $250,000 plus another $250,000 for the controller. I sold them. Fast forward 30 years. 2 TB for less than $100 and it fits in the pocket of my cargo shorts? What magic is this? I needed a replacement for my external Seagate drive that just died on me.It was four times the size of this (at least) and died when the power adapter stopped working. This doesnt require separate power (powered by USB). The great thing about hard drives these days is the capacities are huge and the prices are also insanely low. The bad thing is this. Consider them disposable. Back up, back up, back up. I cannot overemphasize that. If you get three years out of a drive, youre doing well. This is a backup drive for me. I moved my home movies off of my internal drive onto an external drive and I use Super Duper on another drive to back up my internal (main) disk. This drive is used for backing up my movies and for Time Machine. Right out of the box, I plugged it in and a window popped up and asked me if I wanted to use this as a Time Machine drive. Sweet! Its a perfect Time Machine drive and I like that they make it so easy. If youre using it for Time Machine youre done. But, I had to partition it first because Im using 1 TB for Time Machine and 1 TB for my movies backup. Partitioning was quick, easy and painless. As I type this, its running its first backup of Time Machine. I dont know about the speed or reliability and I dont particularly care. As a Time Machine drive it doesnt matter how fast it is.. And, for backing up my movies, when (not if) this drive dies, Ill replace it and just copy over my backup from the other drive. Ive lost many drives over the years but I havent lost any data. Backup drives speed and reliability are meaningless. They back up in the background and you should always have at least one more copy of your data. When it dies, throw it away and get another one. A three year warranty on a $100 drive makes me very happy. If it lasts 3 years thats less than $35 a year. Well worth it.
