Super product and best on the market for suction, width of nozzle, battery/charging power, large canister size, etc etc. Has a washable and very durable filter inside. It is a solidly manufactured, heavyweight monster in a good way. Bends in all different directions. Pricey but worth it in a weird way, see below. Im on my third one. But not for the best reason. The bummer: Ive used for one reason only - to suck up cat litter that my cats toes kick out or drop when the exit the box. In doing so, it also sucks up some of my own hair (bathroom). Sometimes used for kitchen floor corners, but rarely - because it is used for the cat litter box area. In each of the three times Ive purchased the same exact model/unit, it has worked PERFECTLY until just one day you get a loud GRINDING sound and a perfectly electrically smoky smell as though something is burning. Cleaned it out, made sure nothing was stuck in it, was very careful...to no avail. Too late to return to Amazon, and Black and Decker basically doesnt exist if you try to get hold of them to execute on the limited warranty. (Limited because no one answers the phone or replies to emails.) So, whatever, I figured it was a one-off. Ordered another. SAME THING. I mean, I only have to use it MAYBE once a day for less than 30 seconds. Another couple years of keeping it clean and taking good care of it and yep, GRINDING & BURNING SMELL. THIRD time around I ordered a different brand and model. Didnt like it; returned...just not comparable. Ordered three others over a few weeks and none compared to the quality of this Black and Decker. None were as expensive as this one either. Flummoxed, I finally gave in and ordered the THIRD one, which Im currently using. I give it a year. Is it worth the cost? Your decision. For ease of use, quality of suction and all of the above, I think Ill end up buying a new one every couple of years. I dont want to do the math but 30 seconds x 365 days x2 divided by whatever I spent on it is, I guess, worth it. What really bums me out is the massive plastic waste - not earth friendly. Nothing sucks up cat litter (or small particles) as this one does, not even a hand broom. So, dont say I didnt tell you. When I ordered a replacement the second time, I saw that some others had the same experience. Yet, others loved it. All I can say is that at this point, I agree with both. Even those who experienced this major flaw say that it is an otherwise excellent, superior, product. Keep the box and receipt, and the box it was mailed to you in, in case it dies on you and you want to return before the Amazon return period ends.

Great vacuum but always a challenge removing and cleaning/replacing the filter. After 3 years and minimum usage, the motor started whining, and the unit became too noisy to use. More than sufficient power and overall design, but it should last longer without replacement.

We used this hand vac daily for 3 years. Its a great little vacuum - really picks up dirt, dust and debris. But after 3 years, the battery is getting weak and it now runs only for a couple of minutes before being unusable. Its very easy to get to the battery pack: remove the vac barrel; remove two screws from the case: slip off the side cover; slip the battery out of the case; disconnect the quick disconnect; and, its ready for a replacement battery pack. Except that there are no replacement battery packs! The battery part number is 515LPFC, but B+D doesnt carry them, nor does Amazon nor any of the parts houses. The battery pack case can easily be opened to reveal a circuit board and 5 battery cells. But the battery cells are welded onto their connectors, so they cannot easily be removed, and they are completely covered by the case so that any identifying marks are hidden. It may be possible to break the welds on the batteries, but it will take more than a soldering iron to do so. Without any means to replace the failing battery, that means that the entire unit must be discarded. I give 5 stars for the vacuum, but only 1 star for the unavailability of replacement batteries, so that averages out to 3 stars.

I have (2) of these Black, and Decker 20 volt vacuums. They are powerful, and they get the job done. I highly recommend the!

We read all the reviews of this vacuum. The number one complaint was the battery not lasting. That is why we chose to buy the extended warranty. We use the vacuum in our car and it does a better job then the ones you pay for at car washes. It’s wonderful for quick pick ups around the house and especially nice to vacuum furniture and under cushions.

Writing this May of 2022, bought mine on Sep 27, 2020, and other than emptying out the main container when it filled Id not properly cleaned it once or replaced the filter (in fact I came across the spare filter a few months back and not recognizing it am afraid I may have tossed it) .... Why yes even the most robust hand vacuums need to have their filters cleaned occasionally... Ive been using mine about a full year and Im not over stating it when I say I NEVER cleaned it, only reason I even thought to do it was because the contents of my paper shredder had spilled over and theres SO much dust in that that my brain kind of went, that must be tough on the filters ... Pulled it apart for the first time, the filters were completely full, and the space between the filter and plastic casing was completely full... and just a few minutes before it was STILL sucking bits of paper and stuff up off the floor. So I washed it... went after the filter (inside the folds and at top where the plastic overlaps it) with a shellfish fork, cleaning out bits of junk the water couldnt clear out (warning, do it over the garbage disposal or youll clog your sink) ... once that was all cleaned out, saw the clear plastic casing that has tiny holes in it, and about half of the holes were full of junk that were stuck in there blocking air flow. Took to it with a pin, pushing the bits out (they were all hard bits of I dont know what) and then rinsed the holes clean ... am still waiting for it to dry, but Im impressed. ALL that dirt was in there and it was STILL working... if it works flawlessly once the bits have had time to dry out Im going to hug it --- next day, it dried, and is once again working flawlessly

Ive only had this handvac for about two months (bought July 2014) and I hope it lasts forever! I dont know how I ever lived without it. It replaces a floor vac that worked through a hand vac, and my main reason for replacing it was that it held almost nothing and was a pain to empty. Boy, did I get more than I expected. The suction on this vacuum is super -- far greater than the hand vac that was supposed to be a floor vac as well. And yes, it picks up kibbles. And cat hair. (Id joke that it would probably pick up the cat, but someone would think I might consider such a thing...) And the crumbs that fall past the toaster crumb tray. And the flour on the kneading counter. And spilled sugar. It picks up incidental cat hair well too, though as the house is completely blanketed in cat hair I dont use the hand vac specifically for it. The round barrel you see is for dirt. The whole end is the lid -- just pull the latch (grey inset above) and dump the barrel into a wastebasket or a bag. So far the lid seals tight when shut (just close it -- not like all the fiddling around with the Dyson). The filter is easy to clean and so simple to remove I have to look at the manual because I dont believe it could be that simple. The little brush tucked under the nozzle gets the last grain of sugar, the last crumb. I still have to remember to angle the nozzle so it can do its stuff. The brush is fairly soft -- wouldnt be afraid to use it on any surface whatever. Press lightly and pull another bit of nozzle out for more reach and bit more slenderness. It locks with a few friction bumps when pulled out all the way, but stays out well enough for a quick slurp when not locked. The pivot is easy to work -- a press to release a latch and presto! Its been harder to remember that I can angle the nozzle to get at the grooves in the sliding windows and other awkward places. Its so easy to stand the vac in the charging stand I have a hard time remembering that too. Just set it down. The vacuum stands in the cradle so vacuum in charger takes up almost no more room than the vacuum alone. It needs about 7 inches from back to front and with the nozzle straight up its about 16 inches high. It comes with screws for mounting to a wall, if one had an appropriate wall. The vacuum goes in the charger sideways, kind of -- handle to the side-- and theres a nice display of a row of blinking blue lights while it charges. Ive never run the battery out yet -- may have an update if I can ever face cleaning my car. Possible cons, for some people: it may make too much noise to suit some, and its kind of high pitched compared to say, the Shop Vac. Kind of goes with the territory, I guess -- never had a decent vacuum that wasnt pretty loud. I dont use the vac for long at a time so it hasnt bothered me. The vacuum blows a strong stream of air (what goes in must come out--) in my face at certain rather unusual angles. It seems to be very clean air, doesnt make me sneeze and sniffle, but its kind of a shock. It does take a bit to rev up -- say one eyeblink. Its ready before I am so so what. It has some weight to it but its well balanced. The question these days is always durability. Will it work for another two months? Two years? Five? Will the BDJ2000PL you buy in December 2014 have already deteriorated from the one I bought in July? Lets hope not.

So I quilt, and I have carpet in my sewing room that accumulates thread and fabric scraps after Ive been working. I got this with the hopes that having a handy hand held vacuum would make it easier to keep the carpet and surfaces clean. Miracles never cease because I have found that I do use it religiously whenever I finish working on a project. It does a very good job of sucking up the textile debris I leave behind. I especially like how well it works on solid surfaces like my table and cutting mat. It isnt quite as successful on debris that gets caught up in the heavily textured fabric of my sewing chair. It also isnt great at removing grass and dirt from the carpet of my car. It gets most off but not nearly as much as you would get using a commercial car wash vacuum I do like that the nozzle can be adjusted to different angles and it is very easy to empty once done using it. Overall a great little tool that I recommend quick cleanups.

Ive had some crappy hand vacs around this price that did essentially nothing--but this one is amazing! Ive used it so much during this pet-shedding season, and its also great for vacuuming up baking soda on couches, bits of crumbled drywall/other home improvement detritus, and dusty corners. I havent used it in the car, yet, but I imagine itll be great for that, too. Its very low-profile, too, since it folds up for charging. (The adjustability of the vac is great, generally.) I havent tested it to the full length of its battery charge, but if youre using it for spot cleaning, that shouldnt be an issue.
