BLACK+DECKER 20V Max Handheld Vacuum, Cordless, Grey (BDH2000PL)

> 3 daySince this unit is one-hand held, weight and hand position when vacuuming are really important. Being able to move the nozzle makes it much easier to hold the unit at the best angle for comfort of use. You dont have to lift your arm or elbow at odd angles, so the weight of the vacuum isnt as difficult to manage.

> 3 dayThank you Amazon for having a sale on this portable vacuum cleaner! I just got this about a week ago and only used it once for some light vacuuming of dust and hairs which worked perfectly. As directed by the instructions, I charged it for 24 hours, actually a little bit more, before first usage. I know using it once and plus for light usage doesnt speak well for my review but I want to point out that I have some history with Black and Decker Pivot vacuums. My previous portable vacuum cleaner was also a Black and Decker, specifically PHV1800. I had that vacuum for about 7+ years and I love the suction power and pivot design. Of course since its cordless, the battery wore out over time. Now it only lasts a few minutes after a full charge. However Ive never had an issue with it. In fact I never replaced the filter. I was meticulous in cleaning the canister and filter when it was medium dirty or sometimes even just light dirty. For the filter, I would shake out the dark gray junk and then use a toothpick to pick out the junk in each fold of the filter. Again because of the battery issue I thought it was finally time to retire the old one and buy a new one. I was a little hesitant to buy the BDH2000PL after reading reviews of the vacuum going dead after about a month or so for some unknown reasons. After some consideration, I decided to give Black and Decker the benefit of a doubt based on past experiences. I never had any issues with my previous B&D portable vacuum. Also years ago my family got a B&D Dustbuster and we never had issues then. So I am of the mindset that B&D makes reliable products at good consumer level prices. I like this vacuum so far and yes it hasnt died yet. Battery withstanding, this new one is a big improvement over my old PHV1800. It is a lot lighter and also has less mass. The canister can now be completely removed from the main unit for a thorough cleaning without lugging the the whole thing around like the old one. I like that the brush is now integrated into the nozzle. With the old one, the brush was a separate thing that I left plugged into the charger base and was too lazy or never noticed it to take it out and use it. The pivot feels like it has a smoother ratchet than the old one. One thing that worries me a bit though is the vacuum doesnt sound as loud as my old one. Maybe I am just equating loudness with suction power or I am not knowledgeable of any technology improvements B&D has done to this vacuum. I will just have to use it more to see how it goes. Oh one more thing, my old one actually has two On levels: regular power or high power vacuuming. Whenever I use the vacuum, the old one, I naturally push the switch up to the highest point until it stops. I forgot the old ones switch has a middle point before reaching the end. So I guess for my usage maybe the new one is an improvement because it removes the middle point which I never used. But so far this vacuum works. I also like the improvements over the old one so Im convinced this new one is great. :)

> 3 dayWe were hoping that Black+Decker would come out with a Lithium-ion vacuum to replace the Ni-cad fold-able vacuum, which weve had two of and loved them. The only downside of the older version was battery life. This vacuum has more suction than the Ni-cad version. It feels smoother operating (folding, and emptying) than the older version The battery should hold up much better We are very pleased with this Vacuum! The only negative I have is why in the world would a great product ship with flat-head screws instead of Phillips screws!

15-06-2025First of all, this is a pretty good design, with superior suction, and a thoughtful, user friendly design. But, as previously pointed out, when the batteries fail, Black & Decker really lets the customer down by not providing a replacement battery pack, even though it’s extremely easy for the end user to access that battery pack for replacement. But, if you’re tech oriented, you can change the batteries with a bit of work and some skills. The first issue, is getting a cell out of the pack, in order to indemnify it for purchase. They’re readily available, but you need that part number that’s printed on each cell. Also, it’s a bit of a challenge to get one out to see that number. The first thing that must be done is to take photos of the battery pack from both sides, for future reference when trying to connect the new cells together. Then, use some needle nose pliers, getting them under the metal straps that connect the cells together, and pry the straps from the cells. But, after doing so, the cells still won’t just slide out of the holder. It’s too tight. But, I used a deep 3/8 drive socket, of a diameter that was almost as large as the battery cells, and I used it, with a hammer, to drive the cells out of the holder. As I said, before I did any of this, I took photos of both sides of the battery pack for reference, so that I would be able to still see how the cells were connected to each other, after they’d been removed from the pack. Then, I inserted new cells into the pack, and referencing my photos, I connected those cells together, using bits of the original straps, and my soldering iron, to reconnect each cell. I was successful. But, I soon came across a problem that made me wish I’d never spent the money for the cells and went to all that work, as about a month later, the motor’s bearings failed, and just like the battery pack, B & D won’t sell you a new motor! I have 2 of these, but I can’t remember which one is older. But, I think it was the newer on that lost its motor. That should mean the motor failed after about 7 years. From what I’ve read in other reviews, that just may be about the most one can expect from it. Even if you can replace the batteries, it really doesn’t make sense to do so, as it cost me around $50.00 for the cells, and the whole vac is only $75! So, I only saved about $25, and I was still stuck with an old vac, whos motor soon failed! But, as I can’t find another brand that has this kind of suction and thoughtful design (& believe me, I’ve tried!), I just bought my 3rd one!

> 3 dayThis vacuum is the very best handheld cordless vacuum I have ever owned. It has powerful suction, gets dirt out of hard to reach corners, and the flexibility of the unit allows me to get to places I simply could not reach before. I highly recommend this vacuum, and Im so glad I made the purchase.

> 3 dayEDIT exactly 30 days later. The charger that is such a bitch to use anyway, died. On the very last day of return eligibility. I am getting a replacement because the thing is just too efficient - the baseboards in my house have never been as clean. But, if this one dies, Im not sure what Ill do. I got this mainly for cleaning up kitty litter that gets sprinkled around the litter boxes. It sucks that stuff up like nobodys business. Perfection. However, I have two major issues with the design. 1. Getting it into the charging stand is a bitch and a half. The stand is now stable enough and the fit is not close to intuitive. Im going to hate it every time I put it away. 2. I had to read the damn manual to get the nozzle back from extension and even that didnt help. Push the raised button on the nozzle. Look, Jacko. There is NO RAISED BUTTON. I finally figured it out but it should not have involved that many swear words.

> 3 dayGreat suction. Holds charge. Good job on upholstery and everything Ive used it on. Just what I was looking for (and disappointed with in others). We dont have stairs, but I think it would be great for that as well. Plan to use in car also.

> 3 dayIt takes about 4 hours to charge. Based on other reviews, I timed how long the battery would last for the charge. Mine is consistent with others; it lasted 9 minutes and 30 seconds. I vacuumed half of my mid-size SUV, charged the vacuum, did the other half of my car the next day. Its not very productive to begin a chore and complete it the next day. It did a very nice job, though! I was able to get into some nooks that I didnt think was possible. I like the pivot feature, too. The interior of the car looks pretty darn good, and clean too! Using the vast capabilities of web searches, it is also a true statement that a replacement battery for this product cannot be located. This is good: the product guide has directions on how to safely remove the battery for disposal when it can no longer take a charge. This is awful, not environmentally friendly, and contrary to common sense: there is no replacement battery option at the time of this writing. I really like this product. It performs well for my needs. I hope B&D will have a battery option when mine decides to die.

> 3 dayIm a fan of great design so lets start out with the pluses: I love the adjustable nozzle on this thing and the way it looks and ease of docking in the charging station. Its fairly lightweight too. Now the minuses: I think this was designed for a very quick pick ups--the suction is fantastic in the first 5-10 minutes and then starts dwindling very quickly, even after a full charge. The dirt cup lid opens at a 90° angle which makes it awkward to tap over a garbage can, and usually lets a bunch of the junk I just sucked fall all over the floor. Very aggravating. The lid also accidentally opens sometimes, which is a huge negative when youre trying to clean up, not spread more dirt. The nozzle is nice and wide, but pet hair, bits of wrappers etc. get sucked up and then clogged in the flap that leads to the dirt cup, reducing the suction to nearly 0 and requiring that you stop your task and get a tool to somehow pull that junk out. Overall I would give this five stars for the look and design but two stars for the actual function. Ive had this Hoover hand vac for three years and its a workhorse — I can vacuum nearly an entire 1200 square-foot house on one charge. It has a smaller nozzle, but Ill trade that any day for the suction and performance: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QF68YTM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Greater than one weekNever having owned a small handheld vacuum before, I guess it’s OK. It does have an awful high pitched sound and its narrow opening makes for cleaning the stairs an annoying long task. It’s good for a few crumps in the kitchen or some hair on the bathroom floor. OK for the car seats but not strong enough for the floors. Certainly not good for dog hair. Would I buy it again? NO
