> 24 hourA good design that works well. Construction is definitely a step above the lower priced vacs. The only addition I think would be useful would be a wider attachment since this has so much suction.

> 24 hourI love this handheld based on the suction. That said, the attachments are built in and leave a little to be desired. I wish it had an attachment to use on fabric / to vacuum a sofa. BUT... the suction is still fantastic! Also it is super easy to clean and empty. Would recommend.

> 24 hourToday is May 13, 2020. We got this vacuum on Jan 19th. Im not sure that Amazon will allow specific pricing in reviews. I went to order one to set to our daughter, and in that time the price went up ***40%***!!!! We didnt get any special prices and that was the every day rate... at least at the time. Is it worth what we paid for it then? Absolutely. Would we buy it at this price? Absolutely not. Our daughter will just have to use a broom and dust pan for awhile longer until the price comes back to the stratosphere. We received this hand vac yesterday and wanted to share my first impressions. When we received the B+D 20v vac it arrived in a non-descript box. On the outside was the ORMD (hazmat) lable, but no fancy box as one might expect. The HAZMAT warning is because of the Li Ion battery Im sure. Very basic packaging with basic instructions. The first impression was like a youd expect with a direct from China product. The operation was fairly intuitive, but a little confusing, but I figured things out reasonably quickly. I did have to refer to the manual. You have to push the button on the handle to open the nozzle and change angle. The crevice tool was easy to find, but I had to figure out how to push it back into the main nozzle. And yet when I actually used the crevice took, it collapsed at first on its own. The way the vac sits on the charging dock is unique. It sits kind of side-saddle. And while you can feel it click in to its position, it doesnt really self-glide. You have to make sure it seats, especially if you mount the charging dock. FWIW, the charger is a 24v charger, but light weight and hard wired into the dock. While the vac unit itself seems relatively sturdy, the charging dock feels like it could be the weak link to the system. If it ever dies your whole unit is dead in the water unless you can rewire a new transformer into the system. First use: It did a fairly good job of cleaning the crumbs on my kitchen floor. I found it very handy in many areas. The foldable nozzle is a nice design feature. My daughter has a 12v B+D vac, but honestly I dont think the 20v unit picks up any better than her 12v, sold for about $55. The one she has doesnt fold, so takes up more space when not in use. One of the features I really like (so far) on our unit is the door on the side of the unit to open for cleaning. Just flip open the door and turn the unit sideways in to the trash. I think that is one feature that separates it from the other choices where the unit has to come apart to dump the dirt collection. It takes only 5 or 10 seconds to open, dump and reclose. Its so easy that you wont hesitate to dump the dirt every time you use it, even for just a few seconds. What I wish it had: A removable battery and separate charger for batteries. One of the other candidates for consideration were one of two Ryobi 18v systems. The one Ryobi unit that came as tool only seemed bulky and the evercharge variation had a charger that seemed to want to be mounted on a wall. THE B+D can be mounted on a wall, but can also sit on a countertop. So while the lack of a separate battery was a con, being able to sit it on a counter or shelf (near an outlet) allows it to be moved to different areas for charging, not limited to mounting in one stationary location. The question not yet answered (for us) is; Will the unit hold up? Im told that B+D customer service is lacking and Amazon only guarantees the products for a limited time. I took a chance because I couldnt find a design that I liked better and any choice had its compromises. I will edit this review if circumstances change and/or I get more experience with this vacuum unit. Based on the above, it might be worth considering if it is in your price range for such a device.

> 24 hourI love the vacuum, especially the section power. However the docking station is flimsy. Hard to get the vacuum in right. I had the older model and the docking station was sturdy and easy to access.

> 24 hourThis is a little bit heavy, but it has good suction power, is easy to to use, and has extra tools to use on nice surfaces and in crevices. A good buy!

> 24 hourFirst of all, this is a pretty good design, with superior suction, and a thoughtful, user friendly design. But, as previously pointed out, when the batteries fail, Black & Decker really lets the customer down by not providing a replacement battery pack, even though it’s extremely easy for the end user to access that battery pack for replacement. But, if you’re tech oriented, you can change the batteries with a bit of work and some skills. The first issue, is getting a cell out of the pack, in order to indemnify it for purchase. They’re readily available, but you need that part number that’s printed on each cell. Also, it’s a bit of a challenge to get one out to see that number. The first thing that must be done is to take photos of the battery pack from both sides, for future reference when trying to connect the new cells together. Then, use some needle nose pliers, getting them under the metal straps that connect the cells together, and pry the straps from the cells. But, after doing so, the cells still won’t just slide out of the holder. It’s too tight. But, I used a deep 3/8 drive socket, of a diameter that was almost as large as the battery cells, and I used it, with a hammer, to drive the cells out of the holder. As I said, before I did any of this, I took photos of both sides of the battery pack for reference, so that I would be able to still see how the cells were connected to each other, after they’d been removed from the pack. Then, I inserted new cells into the pack, and referencing my photos, I connected those cells together, using bits of the original straps, and my soldering iron, to reconnect each cell. I was successful. But, I soon came across a problem that made me wish I’d never spent the money for the cells and went to all that work, as about a month later, the motor’s bearings failed, and just like the battery pack, B & D won’t sell you a new motor! I have 2 of these, but I can’t remember which one is older. But, I think it was the newer on that lost its motor. That should mean the motor failed after about 7 years. From what I’ve read in other reviews, that just may be about the most one can expect from it. Even if you can replace the batteries, it really doesn’t make sense to do so, as it cost me around $50.00 for the cells, and the whole vac is only $75! So, I only saved about $25, and I was still stuck with an old vac, whos motor soon failed! But, as I can’t find another brand that has this kind of suction and thoughtful design (& believe me, I’ve tried!), I just bought my 3rd one!

> 24 hourI got it on Amazon day July 15, at 1 cent more expensive! Wasted my time that day. I still have two B&D NiCad in the garage I think. I gave up on them and others for a couple of years. They are good, perhaps too good. Replacement filters cost a fortune. And the power drops fast. I tried another one with a washable filter. You have to touch the accumulated dust to clean it. No matter how you wash it, its still black. Then you dry the filthy filter, reshape it a little, and put it back. Not a pleasant thing to do. Also, at the time, I waited at least for NiMH battery but they never arrived. When lithium came out they are so expensive. And the first bagless like the Dyson are so large! This is surprisingly small which is a good thing. The battery is heavy but not more than some other models, old and new. Not that you need much effort to vacuum. The older ones are full of dead spaces that are difficult to clean thoroughly. The pivoted tube is more convenient than a fixed straight one, but the advantage is really in the storage. When its folded, it stands upright and stable on the charging stand taking up little footprint. You can put in on the table and its not bad to look at. Indeed, it comes with some tapes to protect the shiny finish just as some electronics. There is an indicator light that blinks when its charging, so you know its in the right position when you put it back. Even when its fully charged, when you take it out of the base and put it back, the indicator will still blink a little. Very reassuring. Its very easy to empty the dirt, and very easy to take the filters off to wash. Indeed, you take the whole thing to wash, leaving the motor and battery with the handle. So you dont need to touch or go near the dirt, not that much. The models I used before all have some metal screws or something else near the suction tube or on the body that made it unsuitable to wash. The prefilter is semi-clear plastic and the inner filter is pleat. The inner filter looks like disposable filters but it is washable. If it doesnt go back to white or light grey after wash, it doesnt matter that much because I dont really have to touch it much if I dont want to. Theres even a pull up handle on the filter. The on-board tools make the price worthwhile. There are a narrow flat tube and a brush that you can pull out from the end of the suction tube. Very convenient and you wont ever need to find it. Even if its attached to the body on other models, the changing of it is a hassle. Yes, Im lazy. Not really, when you take a 10 sec to take off one tool and insert the other tool in, you could have completed the job on this one. I cant find any fault yet. But the plastic packing is not recyclable. Update: this thing is easily jammed with bigger things like pet food pellets. Its not the size of the pellets but the small volume of the collection cup. Even if the cup is not full, the pellets circulate around the container. Because of the compact design, the flap that prevents pellets going back out the tube opens into the path of the pellets inside. It doesnt take much solid trash to jam the tube so nothing goes inside the cup but remains inside the tube. When the motor stops those trapped pellets will flow out from the tube. Of course, theres no problem for dust and fine trash. Therefore I brought also the older model with 16V. The few volt difference isnt obvious during use. Sucking pet food pellet is shown in the listing pictures. One advantage is that this can be wall mounted and it doesnt take much vertical space because of the folded tube.

> 24 hourLike so many other reviews said, this B&D vac has plenty of suction. I used it twice since I bought it, once on the floor mats on our two cars and the second time on two sets of stairs and work bench. Lots of dirt and small pieces were picked up. Both times the battery lasted 15-16 minutes. Recharge time is between 3 to 4 hours. It keeps a good suction right up to shutting down. I feel that the run time should be a bit longer considering how long it takes for the battery to charge. But I’m ok with it because the jobs I’ll use it on should take less than 15 minutes. Jut not to plan on several jobs all at once. I may come back in a while with an update on battery life, but my experience with lithium ion batteries says it should have a reasonably long life.

> 24 hourIts a nice little vacuum. I have been buying them for years. This particular model leaks debris when placed in the charger, the flap inside is flimsy and does not locks well to prevent dirt from coming out. I usually place the vacuum in the palm of my hand and turn it on to make sure debris is all in. Secondly, the batteries died out after about 16 months and to replaced them you have to solder them and also, they are expensive- Its cheaper to replaced vacuum than replacing the batteries. I wish they correct these flaws since it is a nice vacuum.

> 24 hourThank you Amazon for having a sale on this portable vacuum cleaner! I just got this about a week ago and only used it once for some light vacuuming of dust and hairs which worked perfectly. As directed by the instructions, I charged it for 24 hours, actually a little bit more, before first usage. I know using it once and plus for light usage doesnt speak well for my review but I want to point out that I have some history with Black and Decker Pivot vacuums. My previous portable vacuum cleaner was also a Black and Decker, specifically PHV1800. I had that vacuum for about 7+ years and I love the suction power and pivot design. Of course since its cordless, the battery wore out over time. Now it only lasts a few minutes after a full charge. However Ive never had an issue with it. In fact I never replaced the filter. I was meticulous in cleaning the canister and filter when it was medium dirty or sometimes even just light dirty. For the filter, I would shake out the dark gray junk and then use a toothpick to pick out the junk in each fold of the filter. Again because of the battery issue I thought it was finally time to retire the old one and buy a new one. I was a little hesitant to buy the BDH2000PL after reading reviews of the vacuum going dead after about a month or so for some unknown reasons. After some consideration, I decided to give Black and Decker the benefit of a doubt based on past experiences. I never had any issues with my previous B&D portable vacuum. Also years ago my family got a B&D Dustbuster and we never had issues then. So I am of the mindset that B&D makes reliable products at good consumer level prices. I like this vacuum so far and yes it hasnt died yet. Battery withstanding, this new one is a big improvement over my old PHV1800. It is a lot lighter and also has less mass. The canister can now be completely removed from the main unit for a thorough cleaning without lugging the the whole thing around like the old one. I like that the brush is now integrated into the nozzle. With the old one, the brush was a separate thing that I left plugged into the charger base and was too lazy or never noticed it to take it out and use it. The pivot feels like it has a smoother ratchet than the old one. One thing that worries me a bit though is the vacuum doesnt sound as loud as my old one. Maybe I am just equating loudness with suction power or I am not knowledgeable of any technology improvements B&D has done to this vacuum. I will just have to use it more to see how it goes. Oh one more thing, my old one actually has two On levels: regular power or high power vacuuming. Whenever I use the vacuum, the old one, I naturally push the switch up to the highest point until it stops. I forgot the old ones switch has a middle point before reaching the end. So I guess for my usage maybe the new one is an improvement because it removes the middle point which I never used. But so far this vacuum works. I also like the improvements over the old one so Im convinced this new one is great. :)
