Genuine GORILLA-LIFT 2-Sided Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist

Very easy to install. Lifts my heavy tailgate/loading ramp easily. Wish I had bought them years ago.

I have a 5 x 10 single axle Trailer with a 40 tall tailgate with an expanded metal surface. The Gorilla Lift installed in a single afternoon (approx 2-hours). Each side comes as a double spring (small inner/ large outer) and cable assembly with roller guides at the cable end. Assembly of the 2 rail halfs for each side is easy; it only requires drilling 2 holes in the trailer per rectangular tube (thats 4 holes per side). The instructions could have been much clearer about how to measure the trailer tailgate for drilling the cable attachment point by using a diagram, but it didnt have one. The instructions do suggest testing the tailgate attachment point using the expanded metal tailgate deck as holes. Instead, I used a C-clamp attached to the side of my tailgate with the cable slotted thru the C-clamp and kept adjusting the clamp up or down until i got the tailgate to float neutral when opening or closing. After finding the right point, i drilled the tailgate side-rail and attached the cable stay-bolt at that point. All-in-all, for my size trailer and tailgate this product has performed as I wanted it to. My 65 Y.O. mother with Parkisons disease is easily able to lift (open and close) the tailgate now that it has the lift-assist attached. I am very pleased with the product.

All trailer manufacturers dont seem to turn the angle iron on the tailgate the same way so if you buy the lift handle you will have to adjust the instructions to fit your trailer. If using the extension rollers the instructions dont show which way to install the rivets or how far apart the roller extension and lift arm should be. An email to Gorilla lift solved both issues within 24 hours and I was able to complete installation the day after delivery.

have on a large trailer my husband uses for mowers, i can now take out myself and open the gate.

Fairly easy to install. Springs were much stronger than I thought they would be. I was worried our ramp would be a little to heavy, but it was plenty. We even had to tone it down to just 1 spring, because it was actually too much tension.
