I live in a rural area where I receive internet access via an antenna on a 50-foot tower. The receiver on the tower is wired with a 150-foot ethernet cable that plugs into a network controller. Although the tower cable has a surge suppressor, a lightning strike fried it and came down the ethernet cable to damage the rather expensive controller. After much troubleshooting and repair, I decided that even a short fiber optic cable link between the tower and my equipment might prevent a recurrence. These relatively inexpensive converters accept the ethernet cable input/output and convert it to light pulses for transmission between the two converters. The fiber optic could be any length, but it can interrupt the electric surge.

Im using this to connect my Cable modem with a 2.5gig network jack back to my router over single mode fiber. Note that you do need matching SFP+ modules to match the same speed as this is a media converter not a switch. However I am using a 10Gb SFP+ BIDI to connect to my routers SFP+ port. and a MultiGig Copper SFP+ to connect to the modem at 2.5Gb I am using the Wiitek SFP+ to RJ45 Copper Modules, SFP-10G-T-S to do this as they show to 10Gb on the SFP+ Side and do the conversion in the module. Modules that expect the device to handle the 1Gb,2.5Gb,5Gb,10Gb speeds will not work unless both module speeds are matched. Glad these are finally instock Ive been wanting these for sometime but had to use a Switch with some ACLs for the MAC address for the modem and router to make sure the packets passed over the switch without the cable modem seeing it as the hand the Public IP to the first device they see. This is a much more solid approch

Does the job. The brand is 10Gtex but it doesnt actually support 10G SFP. Only 1Gbps SFP is supported. However, it works as intended.

This does exactly as expected. I have had them running for almost a year now and had no issues.

Lo compré para poner una instalación de fibra óptica om3 junto con cableado categoría 7, antes tenía problemas de estabilidad del Internet y por eso puse fibra óptica en vez del antiguo cable categoría 6 y la velocidad de Internet ahora está al máximo y lo uso más para un sistema mesh de tp link el cual 2 de los routers recibían la mitad de la velocidad de Internet por cable que el principal y con la instalación se solucionó el problema.
