LEGO Ideas 21317 Disney Steamboat Willie Building Kit (751 Pieces)

Ive got two Lego crazy boys and my older one, in particular, tends to love the Lego Ideas sets. This one is definitely creative, using only black, white and gray bricks to define the original Mickey Mouse Steamboat Willie which was, of course, in black and white. Even though my son wasnt initially wowed, he liked how intricate and solid the build itself was. Its a better than average Lego final product that definitely looks like something different and special; more for display, than play, but a unique and interesting gift for Lego, or Disney, fans of all ages.

A great combo for LEGO lovers and Disney lovers. Turned out great. Buy the light kit for extra fun and enhance your display.

Really is a nice gift and very enjoyable to put together. Looks nice after finished. Little costly but what else is not!

Box came damaged

Received the Legos and it was missing one of the packages of the LEGO pieces so it couldn’t be assembled

Lego has been making some great unique sets over the last few years, and this one is one of the best. The build is fairly straightforward for a set with a higher piece count. The most annoying part is tying the string, but its not too difficult. As a premium set, there are no stickers- designs are printed on the bricks themselves. The designs of Mickey and Minnie are perfect and there are a few details throughout the set that really make it a worthy tribute to the 1928 cartoon (especially the moving steam stacks). This is a case where Lego took a decent Ideas submission and turned it in to a masterpiece. The only thing I would say is missing is Peg Leg Pete.

This set looks just like the boat in the original Disney classic cartoon Steamboat Willie. Besides the Boat, this set includes 2 minifigures (Micky and Minnie Mouse), a bird, a minifigure display stand and lots of accessories. This boat doesnt much of an interior, but it does include what is probably the most iconic room in the history of Disney, which is the room with Micky and the big steering wheel. Inside the lower part of the build there is an amazing built in mechanism that makes the steam pipes move up and down and the paddles rotate when you push the boat foreword or backward. This set is a very easy build for experienced Lego collectors, but some Lego fans might find building this a little difficult. This set is a great display set and I would definitively recommend getting this if you are a big Disney fan!

I am absolutely thrilled that this is not all black and white! The colorful bricks used for the inner workings of the steam boat really made it fun! I wish you could have seen my smile when I opened the box! The build is not difficult, but has some areas that are a little trickier than others. The step by step instructions were easy enough for a 9 year old to follow. It took him approximately 4 hours or so. He had one smokestack get stuck, but we found a fix to help us. Simply pick up the one smoke stack and gently put it down. I know some others had to rebuild theirs by removing one piece. We did not need to do that. Your finished steamboat is aproximately 10”x5” and features moving smokestacks, and moving paddlewheel! It comes with both Mickey and Minnie! I love knowing all the cheerful colors fill the interior of our Steamboat!
