After a minor glitch and a little tweaking the WiFi outlet is now performing perfectly. The procedures to enable the unit are straightforward and clearly detailed in the Getting Starting insert. Briefly, I loaded the My Leviton app from the Apple App Store. It went through a six step process to configure the device and the app. It was fairly quick, taking under five minutes, but it hung-up on the last step so I was forced to cancel and start over. The second attempt completed without incident and since I wanted Alexa to control the outlet I started the Alexa app which was already loaded on my iOS device. This outlet can be used without Alexa but it requires a WiFi network. In that app I went to Settings, Skills and added the My Leviton skill. Then I went to Settings, Smart Home and under the skill just added I selected Discover Devices. The outlet appeared on the list and I closed the app. Final step is to request Alexa to turn on or turn off, in this case, a lamp. I attempted to use the default name provided by the manufacturer for the outlet but it is lengthy and cumbersome – something like Leviton outlet 366. But, when I asked Alexa to turn on the outlet the name was not recognized. So, after a few failed attempts I went back into the My Leviton app and changed the name of the device to one that is short, easy to say and understand. So, far very pleased. It is convenient to turn the light on and off with a simple verbal command and I appreciate being able to use Alexa in an expanded capacity. Currently functioning without issue.

I was an early adopter of Leviton Decora WiFi switch solution, and its been about four years since I originally installed this product to realize the promise of a smart home. By extension, I think my experience offers a unique, valuable perspective: • While the Gen 1 products had an extremely high failure rate that was very frustrating at times, Leviton has consistently stood by its warranty commitment to replace failed units. • Over the years, Ive noted continued investments to improve product stability, security, and app experience. • I’m really liking the installation / setup improvements that were incorporated in the Gen 2 products, which replace the now discontinued Gen 1 products under warranty repairs. • If lessons were learned and the quality / reliability of the Gen 2 products have similarly improved, this presumes to be a really solid solution. I will update this review as my experience with Gen 2 products unfold. --- Original experience: To realize the promise of a smart home, I invested heavily in Leviton Decora Wi-Fi switches, buying [16] of the regular variety (DW15S-1BZ), [8] of the dimmer variety (DW1KD-1BZ), [4] of three-way switch remotes (DD0SR-DLZ), and some of the plug-in (DW15A-1BW) units between July and December of 2017. To be fair, Ill say that contrary to other reports the Wi-Fi has been very reliable, and switch responsiveness to Wi-Fi commands has always been timely, but like others I had trouble after power outages, a need to reset breakers to restore connectivity, etc. Also, twice I had the system go haywire with lights turning on and off on their own, which was quite scary. I first thought it was hackers, but Leviton assured me it was an issue with their cloud platform - still, very unnerving. The mobile application user interface can be difficult to navigate, but I got used to it and can live with that. The real issue has been the extremely high failure rate - upwards of 50%, maybe 75% of those I purchased have failed since they were installed, even while my house is newer (built 2007) with high quality wiring, required neutral wire, and fairly stable, reliable power. Leviton has thus far honored their warranty, but not always as quickly as Id like, and this is still a hassle. Consider, you have the cost of the device itself and the further time and effort for installation (or electrician cost if youre not installing yourself) which is multiplied by the high failure rate to account for replacements, along with being unable to turn lights on and off during a failure (sometimes even manually) until the unit is replaced. In my calculus, over the life so far those have greatly outweighed any gains from the convenience of the smart features. It may be that engineering has improved on newer models to be reliable, but if not, once these are out of warranty, I couldnt imagine having switch replacements becoming some new lifetime budgetary cost and household repair task. All that to say, in my opinion the concept is great, but execution - tied to the expectation of always being able to reliably turn your lights on and off - needs work.

Im curious about creating a smart home, so decided to try this wifi plug. Very easy to set up using the My Leviton app supplied by the company, Leviton - its wizard-like, steps you through connecting to home wifi. Its simple to use. I just have one thing plugged in - a Christmas tree, which is fun to turn off and on through the app instead of walking over and plugging it in and out. I connected to my Echo Dot by enabling the My Leviton skill. Voice control makes it even easier and entertaining - Alexa, turn on the tree. The My Leviton app has a lot of capabilities, especially if you have multiple plugs or other Leviton smart products. You can create activities, which enable you to group commands to be run at the same time. Another nice feature, which I plan to use even with the one plug, is schedules. Thisll come in handy to turn a light on and off at various times of day or night. Now that Ive toe-dipped, Im going to consider other products to smarten the home. It started out as a novelty, but Im finding it pretty useful.

Updated review: 4 stars Ive had four of these installed for between 1-2 yrs each. After this time one has died - its non responsive and cant be reset always has a green light. Im waiting for a response from leviton but I assume theyre going to tell me tough luck and buy another. I updated my router with a ubiqiti access point and it works well with all the switches and plugs, however I had to manually reset the wifi on each one to get them to work. Kind of a pain. I still like these and am going to try the mini plugs next. They really updated the app recently and you can now set schedules for individual switches/plugs easily and based on sunset/sunrise. That simplified things for me quite a bit. original review: 4 stars Great product that functions well. Lets you turn on lights, fans, whatever you plug into it remotely from your phone. DO NOT BUY THESE USED FROM AMAZON WAREHOUSE. THEY WILL NOT BE USABLE. Only minor annoyance I have is that the app seems to log me out frequently, so I have to log back in. Its also not super fast, but I can deal with that.

Great product - works as advertised. But it only works if your WiFi is up and running. So if your WiFi occasionally loses its mind (power loss, lost internet connection, etc.) you will not be able to control the connected device during the period the WiFi is down.

Ive now had this plug for over a year. I have it connected to Google home as well as on my cell phone the app for it. 40% of the time neither Google home or the app can find the device. All my other smart devices work in that time (nest, Chromecast, Google home). Just not my leviton device.

I have to reset the switch to factory settings and reconfigure the WiFi every single day so that I can control this switch from the My Leviton app. The switch stays connected to Levitons cloud for a few hours at best. It completely defeats the purpose of having these things in the first place.
