Greater than one weekA few weeks ago, my garage door suddenly began acting strange. It wouldnt go all the way up before stopping, and when the door hit the ground, it would immediately reverse and go back up. A call to a local garage door place revealed a probable stripped gear in the opener. I was quoted $400 for a replacement opener with installation. Wow.... So I set up and appointment the following week. But being curious, I was dying to find out what was wrong the the 15 year old opener. So I took the cover off while it was still mounted to the ceiling. The inside of the cover was filled with white flakes and the main gear was definitely stripped. A quick check on YouTube yieled a wealth of Infprmation on replacing the gear. It seemed easy, so I ordered the kit. Within an evening, I had the unit down and with 3 bolts, had the old gear out. When the new kit arrived, I noticed that it came with a new worm gear too. Replacement of that gear involved removing the motor from the unit, and that required a little work. But the thought of saving over $300 made to work seem easy. I had the gears replaced the unit buttoned up and back in place within a Saturday morning. Carefully following the directions, and with the garage door closed, I ran the opener to the full clockwise position and installed and properly tensioned the chain. The moment of truth came when I hit the key fob opener. The door operated quietly and smoothly! It required a tiny bit of adjustment and my garage door, our primary entrance and exit to our hone was back in service. If you can hold a wrench. If you can turn a screwdriver, if you can follow instructions to the letter, you can save yourself potentially hundreds of dollars with the kit!

> 3 dayitem received was consistent to specs-and included complete mounting info.and fitted perfectly I would suggest screwing and unscrewing the 3 metal screws onto the new mounting plate BEFORE attaching it the first time to the door opener. It will then be much easier to tighten those screws !

> 3 dayOur gear sprocket snapped on our garage door opener and I thought for sure we would have to replace the entire unit. My husband decided that if we could find the part he could probably replace it and so the hunt begin. We came across this one and it seemed to be what we needed. It certainly was not an easy job, but he installed it and now the garage door opener works again as new. Totally worth not replacing the whole thing!
