What is there not to like about this game. Fun for all ages. This is easily one of the best games for DS. As old as it is, it would be a great gift for someone with a DS that has not played it yet. The beauty of this game is simple platforming. Jumping on things, great colorful environments. Good for ages 7 and up. Only because of the game mechanics.

Great Product!! The graphics are amazing and you can even get really big or really tiny depending on the mushroom you get. The only issue is that the levels get really hard really fast (into 2nd world) my 5 year son is a video game pro and has trouble with some of the spots in the levels (2 and up). In the old game you did not get into really hard levels until level 6 or 7. This is a great game and lots of fun, I would not get it for small kids unless you can beat the world for them.

I know the name might sound a little weird, but New Super Mario Bros. is a great 2D side scrolling adventure. It all just kind of feels right. There are 8 worlds standard stuff your ice world, desert world, the usual, but they have added some new stuff like these coins that are hidden throughout ever level, there are three in each level. There are two new kinds of mushrooms that you can get one makes you giant and destroy everything in your path which is really very satisfying, and the other turns you into a tiny Mario and lets you get to places that you wouldnt be able to if you were big. The game might seem a little on the short side if you just run through it without getting some of the harder coins or unlocking 2 of the worlds that you can just skip if you really wanted to, but you probably wont. the games about 4 hours long just going through then going back and starting to get all the coins you realize how much stuff there is to get everything it can take in upwards of 20 hours, but you dont have to do that to make the game feel complete you just really need to unlock all most of the levels and beat Bowser. All in all it feels like a really good experience.

First let me explain that this isnt a remake of the original Super Mario Bros. Instead, its a try into revitalizing the once great Super Mario Bros. series. This game is influenced by Super Mario Bros. with the each stages gameplay and finish pole. Its influenced by Super Mario Bros. 3 with its map layout of each world, along with its toad houses and hammer dudes walking around. Its influenced by Super Mario World with some stages backgrounds and gameplay elements including the climbing on the fences. The graphics for this game are very nice. All the characters are rendered in 3d as well as some of the backgrounds. They blend nicely together. No complaints. Mario and Luigi look different from each other this time around. Just as they should. I didnt pay too much attention to sound, but one thing that did annoy me was what Mario said after finishing each level. Well.. what is sounded like he said was, Thank you so nice! which is irritating to hear so many times. The english is so bad, that its unbearable. Now onto the lackluster part. The gameplay. The game is easy. Not only that, but they provide you with a crap load of power ups beyond the ones in the stages, making it even easier. If that werent enough, they also keep 2 out of the 8 worlds as an unlockable secret. But wait, if youre lucky enough, you might also accidentally discover a way to only do 3 worlds before getting to world 8. So, chop the game in less than half and thats its length. And youre done. Its way too easy and it seems like they dont even want you to play through the game. And then on top of that, theres a lackluster ending. Is there any motivation to complete the other worlds? No! The levels arent even challenging. I had 50 lives after 3 worlds. Nintendo knows how non-challenging the game is. Thats why you cant save when you want, just every time you complete a castle or spend star-coins. And thats annoying. So much for a pick up and play game. To spice things up, each stage has 3 stars-coins to collect, some of which require some thinking, but most are easy. And what do they do, give you powerups to make the game even easier. You dont have to collect the stars, its pointless. You could collect them only for collectings sake. There are also red coins to collect. They give you powerups as well for collecting them within the given time limit. It cant get any easier. This game features 3 power ups not included in any other mario game. First you can grow to super size. They give you this way too often and what does this do, it gives you up to 5 lives, the amount depending on how much destruction you cause. Save those for levels filled with bricks its easy lives. The 2 other power-ups are worthless. One that makes you really tiny, useless against enemies makes this one just for finding secrets. The problem is that they almost never give this power-up to you in the level where the secrets are at. So youll have to go find one where there is and play that level to get it. This becomes quickly annoying. The other powerup gives you a turtle shell so you can slide like a turtleshell against enemies. Since the flower is much easier to play with, this powerup goes to help acquire secrets in stages that, also dont provide the powerup. Fetch it boy. This ones rare. Super annoying. The castle boss battles are also easy. If you get to the boss with fire powerup, which is super easy to do, since you can always carry a spare poweup with you, that you cant lose by dying, and call upon it whenever you need it, the boss becomes very little of a challenge. Even the final boss battle at the end of the game was easy. Sometimes all you need is super mario so that you dont die crossing the bridge to the other side to drop the bridge. The mini games are recycled from Super Mario 64 DS and so is the multiplayer from every other mario game. So this should last you a bit (sarcasm). Great extras Nintendo! (more sarcasm). It would have been nice if you included the original super mario bros as a nice extra. But what am I thinking, that wouldve been a good idea. VERDICT This game is Disappointing. Its short and easy. It seemed nice in the first world, until it got too repetitive and easy. If you want to play a Mario game better than this, go play super mario advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. The game looks, feels, sounds, and breathes like a super mario game. In fact, the game is fun to play, but its flaws are too much for me and thats why I wouldnt buy it. Otherwise it would be a great game. You know its easier to find the secret to skipping the game than it is to find the secret to unlock the hidden 1/4. Doesnt that suck.

This game is so much fun. It would be a plus if there was more cool features but it had plenty, i guess i am just being greedy because this is a game i played when i was growing up and now its nice to play it again with better graphics and other improvements. oh and most importantly, you can play with your friends multi player game option thats going to keep you guys busy for hours- laughing and screaming, its great!- its too much to explain in terms of what makes the multi player so awesome but it is, it really really is.

Awesome and affordable. I was really happy that it shipped in a timely fashion for Christmas that year. The only thing that keeps me from giving that final star is the fact that I almost threw it away with initial unboxing. The package was a small shipping envelope and inside it was filled with brown packing paper. The little chip was just hanging out in that wad of paper.

The storyline of
New Super Mario Bros. is simple, but 100% classic Mario Bros. During a tranquil walk with Princess Peach, Mario witness a lightning strike on Peach"s castle. Mario predictably races off to lend a hand, but no sooner has he stepped away from the always popular Peach, than he sees Bowser Jr. step into the picture and drag her away. As mario pursues them throughout both overworld and underworld, the appearance of Bowser and the Koopas shows that the list of fiends opposing him is longer than he expected. But Mario is not one to be put off by such things. Come along with Mario, Luigi and other friends as they venture into the depths of the Mushroom Kingdom to get Peach back once again.

Gameplay
Although
New Super Mario Bros. is a modern addition to the Mario Bros. tome, it revels in the fact that it is an old school side-scrolling platformer through and through. The single player mode is set on 80 levels spread across eight worlds, with players assuming the role of either Mario or Luigi. As in all Mario Bros. games, the ultimate goal is to rescue Peach, but as players traverse game levels the immediate goal is to collect coins, hop on top of enemies, and break open blocks while searching for power-ups as you race to capture the flag at the end of each level. Each of the game"s eight worlds climaxes with a boss battle tied into the abduction of Peach, in which players will need to utilize the game"s six power-ups in order to have success.

Along with its single player mode New Super Mario Bros. for DS also features two different multiplayer modes. The first is the Mario vs. Luigi, 2-player competitive mode. Here it"s brother vs. brother in a literal race for Stars. Players choose to play as either Mario or Luigi, with the goal to collect the Stars that appear throughout the stage at timed intervals. If one brother gets a star(s) first they can be stolen away by the other player by doing damage. The one who gets to the set number of stars wins. This mode uses local wireless DS Single-Card download play, so only one game card is needed. The other multiplayer mode revolves around mini-game play. There are variety of these, which can be engaged in on a one-on-one basis, or in tournament fashion with 2-4 players.

The Power-ups.
New Super Mario for DS contains contains six power-up options. Three of these, the Super Mushroom, the Fire Flower and the Starman are back from previous games. There are also three entirely new to the game, these being: the Blue Koopa Shell, which Mario can crawl into to protect himself and spin when inside it to attack enemies; the Mega Mushroom, which allows for a huge Mario; and the Mini-Mushroom, which makes Mario very small and able to get into places that wouldn"t otherwise be available.
