Setup can be tricky on these, often requiring the second or third try on the app before the device successfully pairs. Once they are paired, they work rock solid and Ive yet to have any issues requiring resetting these devices unlike other brands of Smart Plugs Ive bought in the past. Being able to monitor energy usage is very useful, as I like to monitor how much power Im using with my space heater and certain other appliances in my apartment, and this device has been fairly accurate at providing those readings. It integrated with Alexa with no problems.

I highly recommend Top Greener’s TGWF115APM. I use mine for the floor lamp that sits on the opposite side of room. Before buying this outlet, I would have to get up and manually turn off the light. There have also been times where I fall asleep before turning off the light. That’s when the time schedule control comes in handy. I set it up so it turns off every night at 11pm. Installing the app was a piece of cake. The WiFi pairing process to my Amazon Alexa took less than a minute. Didn’t even have to read the instructions that were provided. Again, I would recommend this product for anyone that’s trying to “smart up” their home.

I bought these to monitor the power consumption of computer servers that run 24/7 to be able to calculate their energy cost. I also used one on a 3d Printer to calculate the cost per print. BOTH just shut off at different times randomly. No schedule on them, they werent linked to any smart home devices, and the app wasnt running. Plus it was in the middle of the night that it happened, so I nor anyone else around was even awake to have possibly done anything with the app or the plugs themselves. This caused my servers to be down for 4 hours. Not only will I not be able to calculate proper energy cost, but I have lost money from the servers being down and the waster filament on a print when the printer was unplugged by it as well.

There are a few things I like about these plugs. I liked the power monitoring feature, although the app does not work correctly on my iPad. It did work on my android phone. I did not have any trouble pairing and adding the devices. However, there are two big issues that make these outlets a poor choice for me. First of all, they do not remember the state they were in prior to a power outage. If an outlet is on before there is a power outage, it should remember and return to an on state when the power returns. The same if it is off. These don’t. If the power goes out, when it comes back the outlets are off and will stay off until you turn them back on using either the app or the button on the outlet. This is a problem if you don’t realize there was a power outage and there is something plugged into it that really needs to stay on, like a mini fridge. That’s exactly what happened to me. I had my mini freezer plugged into this so I could track how much power it was using. At some point during the day the power blinked and the outlet shut off. The next day I went out to grab something and all the food in the freezer was thawed and I had to toss most of it. Not good. My Kasa outlets don’t do that, they come back on automatically when the power comes back, and they also will complete scheduled tasks whether or not the Internet is up. These outlets will not. I didn’t think that was a huge deal because I have my Kasa outlets for things that need scheduled tasks to function reliably. But honestly, why pay almost the same price for outlets that don’t have as good functionality? But anyway, having to check your outlets every few hours to make sure they’re still on when you live in an area where there are fairly frequent power blinks is totally a dealbreaker for me.

Great smart plugs, works perfectly with Google Home mini. Use one to make sure my hair straightener is off when I leave the house! Took off a star because they are large, and take up two outlets for one.

These devices will randomly turn off. Upon research it is common and TopGreener simply tells you to reset the device. The behavior is still present after a reset. There appears to be no rhyme or reason why it is occurring, no warning that it is about to happen. I have lost power to a Harvest Right freeze dryer in the middle of a batch, had I not noticed the pump turning off I may not have checked on it in time to save the food. One has also shutdown for my freezer with over $2k of grass fed beef and free-range chicken. I have had another device just shutdown that my TV was plugged into while I was watching it. Most recently I had one shutdown that my route was plugged into while I was working remote in the middle of a conference call. I purchased these devices to track, in detail, my energy usage and what I go were a bunch of headaches. Bottom line, these products cannot be trusted at all.

Really thats all I need to say. If you hate cloud services and want self-controlled systems GOOD NEWS! At least as of January 2021 these do NOT have the new Tuya FW. Meaning you can still use Tuya-Convert to flash these OTA with ESPHome or Tasmota! Calibration is a PITA...just saying, but thats the nature of doing custom firmware and not because of the device itself.

I got these primarily because they were listed as being able to measure power consumption. This feature is getting harder and harder to find in smart plugs and many reviews for other products that are supposed to measure power usage report that the feature has been removed in newer models. I can verify that the power monitoring does work on these. I like to know how much power is being used (aka how much an appliance is costing me to run) and it also helped my identify a freezer that was going out. I noticed a big spike in the power utilization on the freezer and that the temps werent as low as normal. After ensuring that the thermostat wasnt covered in ice, the door was still sealing, etc, its my guess that the compressor was on its way out. Very happy to have caught it early rather than when I opened the door and had a freezer full of spoiled food.

I had low expectations for these little guys seeing as they were quite a bit cheaper than comprable watt meters with a LED readout. But the ability to connect to Wi-Fi seemed convenient so I decided to give it a try. Theyve easily exceed any expectations and I might even buy a few more. The only issue was set-up was a bit challenging, at least for me. It took probably 10-15 minutes and several tries but eventually I got it to work with the app. I had better luck with the alternate pairing method or whatever its called so you might want to try that right off the bat. Also I think I may have erred by plugging them in before I was ready to pair, you may want to wait until you have the app ready to do that. The biggest pleasant surprise was the quality of the app. (You need to have the app to get any use out of this product.) Ive used a bunch of cheaply made companion apps but this was definitely not one of them. It works very smoothly and the UI is great. Its a bit annoying that you have to create a free account with TOPGREENER to use it but I guess that should be expected these days. It prompts you to share your location but you dont need to do this for it to work. Once set up the app makes it very easy to toggle the power of your plugs, as well as view the current and historical power consumption. If you unplug the units they immediately reconnect to the app when you plug them in again so no worries there. One last thing, I noticed someone here was alarmed that the watts on the readout dont equal volts * amps. Thats because this formula doesnt hold true for alternating current. I cant comment on the accuracy of the wattage figures (which are shown to the nearest 0.1 watts) but they seem to be reasonable. EDIT: Had a space heater (1300 watts) running through the plug for about an hour and when I disconnected it the unit was noticeably warm. I dont think it was a fire risk or anything but just something you might want to be aware of, especially for even higher-wattage appliances.

I was looking to replace some cheapy analog dial timers that eventually will wear out/lose time. Im not controlling anything heavy duty right now. I have no Alexa or similar device (nor do I want one) so I downloaded the Topgreener app to my cell. It was easy to install & works flawlessly so far. The units were easy to activate & program. One unit controls an LED window candle with negligible power draw. Another controls an old-style electric blanket (on-off, temp control with no auto-off) so things are toasty come bedtime. A third controls a manual slow cooker so if the cooking time is shorter than the time Im away, I can either turn the unit off or start it later. They seem to have the ability to ride out at least a short-term power outage. I shut the circuit off that had the night light in order to install an AFCI in the lead receptacle position. After about 15 minutes I turned the power back on & later that evening the light came on as programmed & has functioned correctly ever since. A nice feature is the Statistics where you can check the receptacle voltage, current draw, & kWh consumption. Im pretty impressed with the units & the app. Ive purchased two sets & will not hesitate to purchase more should the need arise.
