> 3 dayI am LOVING this! I have VHS tapes that are over 30 years old. Ive tried transferring them over time but never really seem to get caught up (did I mention I have a LOT of tapes?). Ive used the GO VIDEO machine and that was nice but youre limited to just moving the video to DVD with no way to edit. And when the machine finally died, it was too expensive to replace and eventually almost impossible to find even used. Then I tried one similar to this product but no matter what I did, the video would not show up in the program so that didnt work. I just put the whole thing out of my mind until I came across this product. I figured with it being Amazon and Im Prime, I had nothing to lose. This is great because you have a simple interface for uncomplicated videos (all one thing and not longer than 2hr SP mode) and an advanced mode where you can do everything from stop recording so you can insert a new tape or fast forward to another section you want to record without recording whats in between and it saves each clip in a list to the right of the preview window) where you can even rename them on the fly - no need to open the folder where its being saved to edit the file name there, which is so less confusing and quicker. You can choose the quality and even the format (like mpg file or CD movie file or standard or long DVD file and more). You can even edit the video you transfer right from there or open a file outside to edit. You can set a timer, too. So if the tape runs 2 hrs but you only want the first hour, no need to watch the video. Set the timer and it will stop recording even though the tape continues to play! AND you can even export the files right from there to social media like Facebook! This also lets you create pix discs and audio files. Just choose which you want to do from the 4 very simple processes. Each is very easy to understand and it comes with excellent written and visual directions. The software disc is easy to install and it really is just the best! *Pix is of the advanced mode screen.

> 3 dayMay change this if I get a hold of support. But got this for my wifes birthday she wanted old vhs home movies transferred. Each tape is 30 minutes. The first time I tried easy mode and it said it recorded it all but ended up with only 8 minutes. Then I did it again in advanced mode mpeg2 and got the full 30 minutes so was like ok now we are in business. But later started anther tape recorded 30 minutes at 1.8 gig, but then after it stopped it said 30 minutes at 1.8 gig, but only wrote a 700 meg file with the last 9 minutes on it. Thats also what it showed in the edit part. Tried 3 times same result. Now trying a 4th in wmv to see if that makes a difference. I do not care the format I will be re-coding in handbrake to hevc anyway. I raised from 1 to 3 stars, because it actually does you just have to leave it running on top of the screen or it will cut it. At least in windows 10 if it gets tabbed down you have to start over. I have used a lot of encoding software and this is more like a screen capture software that catches its box only and only when its on top.

Greater than one weekI think this product would have been great except I have a camcorder that needed a different cable and the cable that was provided doesnt work if you only have one input from the camcorder. I was either able to get sound or video but not both.

> 3 daySMOOTH AND EASY, thats the way I like it and thats what this delivers. I work in an edit studio where quality is important. I have had a couple converters that give just kinda grainy, shaky transfers (SOny Media Tower, Im looking at you). This one, if you take the time to just read the instructions, installs beautifully first time and does a slam-bang job of transferring whatever Ive fed into in. Some old Hi-8 was first, and it looked pretty darn good. Guys in the room were like, whoa! Were in business! We used S-video cable (not the supplied RCA jacks) for that. Did some VHS, and found that it gives a good transfer, but of course, its not a miracle worker. I had some garbage that is still garbage BUT its not editable in our pro machines where it wasnt just seconds before. Good VHS looks really good. The audio is very good too. No extra hum or hiss added. Operationally its a breeze. Sorry but those reviewers who have reported problems, I just dont get it. This thing does the job with a VERY easy to use interface (duh, push de button get de video). You see the video in the small viewing screen. Controls beneath that. Rewind, well, thats to rewind. Free updates. Sorry, its that simple and works great and stable every time we duh, push de button. Simple! Awesome. Exactly the way I need it to be because I function on a lot of levels with a ;lot of different equipment and just dont need a lot of fussy particulars. Good video from old stuff at last! The version we got, works on both the Mac and windows PC (have 8.1 and Windows 10 here, a disk was provided for each format). By the way, and this will be obvious, make sure you are buying for your type computer (PC or WIndows) if you dont get the one that does both because it absolutely will not work on the wrong system. Sorry for me, first time I didnt push de right button. But they took care of me which is something else I really liked. Real people at work behind the screens and phones. Buy with confidence.

Greater than one weekWorks great. Easy setup and install. Easier to convert and name files. Just drag and play. Converted a bunch of videos my sister had of family events such as birthdays, holidays, etc. However, the quality of the digital conversion, is the same as the quality of the original video. This conversion process does not clear up nor improve picture quality.

Greater than one weekStarting at the Beginning and why I purchased. Wanting to transform my video tapes of family events and put them on CD. Also wanting to make CDs out of some tapes and LPs. I tried the cheap knock-offs for 11ish dollars...didnt work. Narrowed my choice to this and Roxio (I had used a previous version a few years ago). So I called Vidbox to insure this product would do what I wanted(I also wanted to see if customer service exists). I actually talked to a live human who I could understand. A HUGE PLUS. Did the same with Roxio and was directed to their online chat. The chat gave me a message about too busy and they will get back to me. A Day later they sent me a satisfaction survey....Dont bother. So Vidbox it is...easy install. Have Windows 7 64bit and installed perfectly. Didnt have to go hunting for drivers. Transferring From Camcorder...I use the advanced and this product is easy.. I followed the available help user guide and now have 7 DVDs. The look great. Had an old family recorded Christmas tape from decades ago that when played on tape seemed a little too high pitched. So easy to load onto Computer with this product, and easy to make CDs. Converted from WMA form to WAV then loaded into Audacity(free download) to edit the speed and now am happy.. Buy

> 3 dayI wouldnt say its entirely user friendly but it has helped to get our old home movies from VHS to a portable hard drive. Grab some popcorn, pull up a few chairs and enjoy the movies because you have to sit through them anyways. The problem i had with ours is that at times it would freeze and not record requiring us to have to start over. That was annoying but by babysitting as it was running we had less issues. Some technology just needs to be babysat i guess.... Get it if you got time to kill and do not want to see your home movies deteriorate to nothing, or you can binge on old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Captain Bucky O Hare tapes

> 3 dayThis is an awesome product. My only dilemma is that I cannot transfer all of my VHS tapes because the kind that I have requires an adapter and no company makes an adapter for 8 mm tapes. This situation is not with the Honestech product, it is with those manufacture who make a product and do not make the accompanying product to transfer HOORAY FOR THIS PRODUCT. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO THE ENTIRE WORLD. THIS IS HOW SATISFIED I AM WITH IT. THANK YOU FOR A GREAT PRODUCT. NOW IF YOU CAN ONLY MAKE A PRODUCT THAT I CAN USE TO TRANSFER MY 8 MM TAPES TO DVD, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. BE THE FIRST TO DO SO!

> 3 dayThis met a need for a fraction of the price sending it out to a service for conversion would have. The bad thing is you HAVE to have a VHS machine to convert VHS movies (this is a duh for many of you, but I had no idea how this worked). My in-laws asked me to convert their VHS movies of my husband and his brother to DVD. We borrowed his grandmothers VHS machine. This kit consists of two main things: a conversion box and software. The conversion box connects to your line out on your VHS machine and there is a USB cable that goes from the box to your laptop or computer. The software installed easily. I like that you can see the movie playing on a little box in the software. I thought I would just be licking my finger and sticking it in the air to see when I thought it was time to stop the VHS so this is really handy. The quality of the video is just OK and be careful about the volume you choose. I really wish I had just kept it at 0. I put it to 1 and I think it created some white noise that is minorly annoying. Not sure if that noise was already on the VHS, though, honestly. My father in law had a movie he was in as an extra and wanted me to make a DVD of the VHS he taped from TV. The sound didnt have the white noise which makes me think maybe it was just the amateur video of my husbands Eagle Court of Honor that caused it. At any rate, the quality is ok and good enough for preserving memories. Not HD by any stretch, but our kids can now see daddy with a full head of hair and can hear him. Its pretty neat for me as I had never seen any videos of my husband that young. Mission accomplished. I only took off a star because the quality is just so-so, but that isnt fair since VHS quality is just so-so. I would rate this a 4.5. We used this on our laptop running Windows 7 with no issues. I am not even close to an A/V professional. I am a homeschooling mom with an engineering degree, but I dont think that degree gave me any leg up on anyone else in hooking this thing up. I am glad we bought it. I guess the only bad thing is you pay $60 and then copy your 5 DVDs from VHS and just have this useless device and software :). But, $60 is much cheaper than the quote I got from one of those services!

Greater than one weekI was able to successfully preserve old tapes of my childhood thanks to this product. The software (while visually outdated) ran well on Windows 10. I ended up running the captured content through Sony Vegas to compress the file size and fix some small sound issues (mono sound only coming through one speaker). This was not a quick project and I didnt expect it to be since I had well over 20 hours of tape to go through. But it is 100% worth it. Act now people. Remember, tapes will degrade over time but video files wont.
