Works just how youd want it to! Be careful not to accidentally reformat and lose all your stuff! I did because I was trying to use it to take data off my phone, which it did not work for, and ended up erasing all the data on the hard drive. Totally my fault and it was fine because I had the data elsewhere so no loss.

This had lots of storage space to get all my pictures off of camera and phones and get them in 1 place.

Use it to play 4k movies and tv shows on my sony tv. Works great. No issues so far, 4 months and counting. Will update review accordingly in the future. Edit: Made original review in 2017. Its now September of 2021. Still using this drive hooked up to my tv. No issues with transferring or playing file whatsoever four years later.

Lasted me a few months and stopped working out of no where one day and lost all my information on there. My brother also has one that has been working for years, I recommend getting the 2-year warranty just in case you get.

I now own three other 1TB My Passports and have been extremely pleased with their reliability and ease of use. Acronis backups on this drive have restored my Win10 HP Laptop several times with complete accuracy and surprising speed. Other portable HDs work as well, but I like the way the Passports cable stays firmly secured (unlike the cables of some other drives) even after Ive moved and even jostled the attached laptop.

I recently received this WD 1TB My Passport HDD. I also have an older model but was running out of space and needed another one. These HDDs are perfect for portable storage. If you ever have an issue with your computer and need to back up files, I highly recommend these. They are password protected so if plugged into another device it cant be opened. You also have the option to have it recognize the computer you use/set it up on and wont require a password if thats what you choose. Overall, its perfect for what I need it for.

I managed to accomplish my main task, copying a lot of photos from Dropbox. Not really sure how I did it. Product is not intuitive. There was no progress screen. Didnt know it was working until it told me it was finished. The instructions on the web site are totally mysterious, made no sense to me. It refused to work at all until after I registered it--kept cycling the log in screen. I would like to use it to copy some things from my hard drive, but will have to devote several hours to trying to figure out how.

I am not doing anything fancy here, just need an external drive to transfer and backup files to. My one requirement is that computers quickly recognize it and they did. Speeds seem solid but I will rely on the techie reviews which all seemed very good. We had about 20,000 photos to transfer and it took about 2 hours to upload via USB 2.0 and less than an hour to download via USB 3.0. It worked well on a new Windows 10 laptop as well as an old Windows 7? laptop. It is smaller and more lightweight than I expected, which is fine by me. It came with the USB cable.

I was amazed that you can get a 1TB hard drive for this price! Western Digital has a good reputation and the hard drive is nice, small and light. Other than downloading some software from the WD web site, there was nothing to install it--just plug it into your PCs USB port. It came in just a few days--without me using any premium shipping. Im very satisfied!!

I just got this because it was a cheap external drive with a lot of capacity. It did come pre-installed with WD backup software that may be useful if thats what you bought this for, but I personally had no need. I hooked this up, formatted it, and used it to create images of my two drives for backup purposes using Macrium Reflect. Didnt take super long to do despite the size of my drives, so this guy seems to be pretty speedy at least. Dont otherwise really have anything to complain about.
