I havent done any benchmarks on this but it has much faster access speeds over wireless than our very old WD 3.5 inch external drive. Its very a nice, compact design and very quiet. Just plug it in and go. I have it connected to our Netgear router and shared as both a Windows share and Apple Time Machine backup location, which works great so far. Only drawback is the cable length - its really short so if you want to hook it up permanently and stash it somewhere out of site you might need to invest in a longer one.

Using these with a unix file system, youll keep chuggin, not worry, and store away. ZFS, Btrfs, Ext4, APFS, etc. Avoid FAT based filesystems and NTFS as they fragment easily and wear down mechanical hard drives faster.

This was an easy set up. Also set up the auto back up which is nice. I use for work and it is easy to access. I use it to store photos and my only comment is i can not scroll through photo after photo (arrow buttons) when i view photos that are stored on this disk. I have to open and close each one. Somewhat of a pain. I can scroll though photos in folders on the C drive no problem. Does not work with photos stored on this disk. I am using windows 10 file manager/viewer. But i still like it and it solved my storage problem.

Got this as a gift for my husband because we kept running out of space on our Playstation and it works great! It was really easy to hook up and everything runs great off it. Im interested in taking over to a friends house and seeing if I can play my games that I have stored on it on their machine but have yet to try it. :)

Called tech support and they said that I could have faulty drive and that my warranty had expired. All I can suggest is to try using it right away to ensure you have one that is not defective. WD did come back and said they would send a replacement. Good on them for being customer service forward. Impressed.

I didnt realize how much storage this was, practically, until I started moving stuff over to it. I got it to back up my personal computer and to move things from old laptops over to new laptops and my new computer. I have so many files on this and I still have SO MUCH room, left. Like I understand, theoretically, 1 TB but I had no idea that I had nowhere close to 1 TB of data between the (about) 3 laptops-worth of information Ive put on it so far. Totally worth the investment!

Note - if you are using a USB hub it needs to be a powered USB hub. those seem to be getting harder to find. This was for my MS Surface that only has one USB so a hub was an additional expense. I put all my files under sub folders of /DATA and that way there is one and only one folder to backup. /DATA is about 1 GB now so this drive will hold 1,000 or so backups. At 4 times a week this should last me five years.

Im not really sure how to review a product like this. I needed portable disconnectable storage for a project and bought this drive. When I plugged it into my computer, it connected right up and worked perfectly. The case did not get hot; a good sign as heat is often the Achilles heel for small portable drives. Assuming it doesnt fail me down the road, Im very happy with this purchase.

Well what can I say its amazing so far. Does everything as advertised. Im not sure how protected the HDD is but it feels nice and sturdy. Im not willing to try and find out though. Its really nice to have 1tb of storage from western digital to backup all my data so when the cheap brand hard drive dies in my laptop I still have something to rely on. My laptop hard drive died about a week ago and sadly it was too far gone to create a new backup. but because of this hard drive I havent lost all of my progress from my drawings and can later go back to them

so far so good, the black and blue ones I bought fully passed all three western digital hard drive utility tests. The two white ones I had to return, since they failed the full drive test, they hung up at 90%. They are lightweight, small, and fast. Good harddrive magnetic backup in addition to flashdrive backups. Time will tell if they hold up reliably. they are inexpensive also.
