As others have stated these are covered in grease. Its a basic coating that most bearings you order come with and was not a big deal. The bearings come in these plasic tube holders and all i did was fill it up with rubbing alcohol (best i had) and shook it then used a paper towel to clean them off. So far out of the 2 tubes ive done that to and tested, ive only had 2 hard to move bearings. It was clear this was due to the plastic cover not fitting well and not a problem with the bearing itself. If you have the time to clean them or were planning on using the bearings in a more mechanically heavy application and will grease them yourself then these are perfect. Very cheap and so far average quality. The grease smell is just a normal one i dont know why some people were overreacting. Im building mechanical joints for a raspberry pi project and these are exactly what i needed to ensure everything moves properly. I may clean them and mix in graphite powder with more grease to use them as sliprings since damage is not a concern for the sheer plethora i now have.

These bearings are not hardened as advertised. Upon disassembling, the bearing races and even bearing balls were not hardened and could be easily deformed with slight pressure between pliers and were also easily filed with low grade carbon steel hand files. The wobble was also significant, with the inner shaft and outer being able to skew in excess of 4 degrees without load. The seals were also garbage with holes and flashing still present, but that of lesser importance. Perhaps a more telling sign is the warning in the photo: Note... not professional bearings. That is, these are not bearings any company would use in a consumer product. Because they are not precise, wear will increase. Because they are not hardened, they will easily abrade away. The thick grease is likely there to disguise the rough texture of the races and the already malformed balls. If you use these bearings, do not do so in an expensive piece of equipment or in a skateboard where a bearing failure could mean a trip to the hospital. Go ahead and drop the same amount of money on 6-12 good bearings from a reputable source. If, however, you are going to make a fidget spinner, go nuts. Thats about the only use where quality is of second concern.

A quality sack of roller bearings that’s ready to roll! Each one was still properly greased, serviceable, and ready to be installed. Have yet to find any tolerance or performance defects with them, a real plus with these bargain products. 5/5, tons of Cowbell, will buy again!

The price is really the only reason they earned 4 stars. The quality and function varied wildly within the batch; some of the stamped steel bearing cages were deformed to the point of being almost completely locked up. However, they werent too greasy or messy and all of them were dimensionally correct. They came with a heavier grease in the bearings, more fit for doing work than hitting maximum RPM. I needed about 60 of these for my project and had to trouble coming up with that many acceptable pieces out of the hundred, so Im satisfied.

These are not suitable for skating, or fidget spinners. They are full of heavy grease, and the plastic cover rubs on the inner bearings balls. The bearings are probably made for very heavy machine loads, because the ball cage is metal and double sides. Even de-greasing them and re-applying a light lubricant will not work. Maybe for other uses this bearing is OK, but definitely not OK as a skateboard bearing, which is what the product has in the title during the time of purchase and review.

We used them in roller skates. They are extremely rough bearings. And in a week or 2 some keep locking up very unhappy with them

Ive owned many bearings over the years, for many purposes. I didnt leave a review sooner ( I ordered these OVER TWO YEARS AGO) because I figured with the absolute abysmal quality, there was no way the listing/store was still even up. You know those things you order, but by the time you go to review the entire seller has disappeared, seemingly overnight? I expected that of these. Out of a set of twenty of them, I found eight which dont exhibit axial tilt while rotating, like the earths axis is tilted and wobbles. Their axial play is easily perceptible, their axial precision (angular wobble off axis) is ABYSMAL (Id say 2.5 degrees on average?) and they make SO. MUCH. NOISE. IF you need a billion bearings with absolutely no requirement for precision or reliability, buy twice as many of these bearings as you think youre going to need. If you need any manner of stability, quietness, precision, reliability, longevity, or any other positive attribute beyond nonzero weight and doesnt crush easily from the side Id suggest you look ANYWHERE else. Ive been angry every single time Ive had to try to find a usable one for a project, for literally two years. NOTE: Im not joking, I can print bearings which run more smoothly and silently than these, out of PLA, AND they track straighter. No, theyre not nearly as strong, and will crush readily, but these are worse for most of my applications than PLA printed bearings.

Im sure these will work to support light to medium weight loads and you cant beat the price.

Overall very decent bearings for fidget spinners. Not Amazing, but the affordability alone makes these bearings a competitive product and after thoroughly cleaning them they worked well and spin for a decent amount of time. If you are using these bearings to make spinners as gifts (as I did) then these will work just fine. If you are making them to sell… I would probably pay just a little more for a higher quality bearing. I am not sure why I liked the “single lip contact seals” of these bearing so much but they were very easy to remove for cleaning and better yet easy to put back onto the bearing afterwards. Just don’t pry them up where the “608RS” is stamped as they are thinner there and are more likely to break in that area. Taking everything into account I would say that you get a good bearing for the price. The only thing I didn’t like (which cost a star 4/5 instead of 5/5) was the lubricant that they used inside of the bearing. I am not sure if they used a silicon or what but when I received the bearings, they were stiff and sticky and didn’t want to spin. With other bearings I was used to having them packed with grease. This was not the case here. These bearings were hard to spin and were pretty much unusable directly out of the package. These bearings were not packed with grease (as many bearings are) and when I took them apart to clean them, I didn’t see any grease at all. As I mentioned before they seemed sticky as opposed to being slick or slippery and I had a difficult time even spinning them. I figured I would simply soak them in 100% Pure Acetone as this is usually enough to remove lubricants from bearings that I have worked with previously. Unfortunately, after soaking them for over 24 hours in Pure Acetone (shaking the container occasionally) they were still stiff and sticky! I almost didn’t believe it. I soaked them for another 24 hours and they were still sticky! I ended up having to use some Carburetor Cleaner and then an Engine Degreaser to cut through whatever was making them sticky. I was kind of shocked at how resilient this sticky substance was. After finally being able to remove the sticky stuff from the bearings they smelled pretty bad (engine degreaser smells). So, I soaked them in 100% Acetone again for a couple of days, took them out, sprayed them off with compressed air while spinning each one and then I let them dry. They still kind of smelled so I soaked them again in a clean container with fresh and clean Acetone and that seemed to do the trick. Kind of a lot of work I suppose. But once they were cleaned the bearings fit perfectly, spun well and helped make some pretty good custom fidget spinners. If you don’t feel like thoroughly cleaning your bearings when you receive them then you might not enjoy this particular product. If you are willing to spend some time cleaning and applying some of your own elbow GREASE to get these bearing clean and spinning properly then for the price you probably can’t go wrong.

608-2RS
miniature radial ball bearing has red double seals and a nylon cage, and conforms to the ABEC 1 precision standard. This light duty bearing has an 8 mm bore diameter, a 22 mm outside diameter, and a 7 mm width. Its precision
is rated at ABEC 1 by the Annular Bearings Engineers Committee (ABEC), allowing higher speeds and creating lower friction than less-precise ball bearings, and its radial internal clearance is C3 for radial slack between the inner and outer rings
is greater than CN (normal) to compensate for thermal expansion. This bearing is made of ASTM International 52100 steel and heat treated to increase hardness for optimum wear resistance. Its deep ball grooves in both races support high radial and
axial loads, its straight bore fits conventional cylindrical shafts, and its nylon cage prevents the balls from coming into contact with each other during use, reducing friction, vibration, and noise. Removable single lip contact seals on both sides
protect against contaminants and retain lubrication applied at manufacture. This ball bearing is suitable for use in skate boarding, inline skating, and other skating applications.
