> 3 dayOptical drives are consumable items. Theyre apparently not made to last. I can understand that the optics would get dusty, but optical drives have a short life and often cant be resurrected by cleaning the optics. This ASUS was an inexpensive quick fix. I was back up in a few minutes and its been good about playing just about any CD or DVD, including those from other burners.

> 3 dayIt was a reasonable priced drive to replace the one that died in my computer.

> 3 dayThe unit still works, but the plastic (the L shaped plastic) in the power plug is not very sturdy. Be sure to pull it out without bending or it will break.

> 3 dayIve bought a lot of Asus peripherals over the years, and this one lives up my high standards for their devices. It has yet to fail on either reading or writing DVDs, and the direct SATA interface is a helluva lot faster than the USB2 external drive Id been using before. Having one less external box, cable, and DC power supply to muck with is a win. These will likely make it a money saver well into the future, as I dont have to depend on cables, plugs, and DC PSUs - just the unit itself. Recommended. (Thickness? They want it rated on thickness? OK . . . it filled the 5.25 bay correctly, no gaps or overly tight fits.)

Greater than one weekAn easy swap using hardware from the old drive - it slid into place and I plugged it in. Win 10 recognized it and worked immediately.

> 3 dayProduct works flawlessly. A bit on the loud side, but thats just something you have to deal with when burning discs at high speeds, not a product flaw at all.

> 3 dayThis disc drive appears to work OK, but Im giving it half-marks because it has to split the review with the other one I bought on 09/20/2020 that sounded like a coffee grinder the minute I installed it and then wouldnt eject discs even on prompt commands. ASUS makes it impossible to contact them for a warranty return, or at least makes it so frustrating the purchaser throws up their hands and buys another one because the first one failed. THEN the cucks at Amazon refuse to post your honest review because it doesnt appease their narrative. Well see if they will post this review. If youre going to buy one, you probably should buy two in case the first one fails and youre stuck with it
