ASUS DRW-24F1ST - DVD SATA SUPERMULTI Burner - SERIAL ATA - BLACK - OEM Bulk Drive

What could have been an easy replacement of a faulty disc drive turned into a scavenger hunt for screws from my dads hodgepodge screw cabinet. Beware. Other than that, it works just fine. Ive had mine for about three months now, and Ive had no problems. The faulty drive was from someone else.

A nice and sturdy DVD player burner. Quiet operation. Would purchase again.

Like the wristwatch, disc drives are more of a fashion statement than a practical tool in 2017, but they do still have their uses. I trust Asus, so I was fairly confident in buying this. As expected, It worked well enough to install an OS and burn the occasional CD to iTunes, but thats about all that disc drives are good for nowadays... Personally, Id rather have one and not need it than need it and not have one, and for the price, it really was a no-brainer for me... Plus I had one 5 1/4 front bay that was looking a bit lonely... If youre looking for a cheap drive thatll get the job done, then youre not going to find one better for less.

I wish the drive came with some accessories to install it. I was disappointed. This doesnt fit the Deepcool Kendomen case because the fans are in the way for the DVD drive to fit. I was saddened. So, I donated this to my school.

Whyyyyy dont they ever package the cables you need WITH these drives? I totally forgot to check if theyre included, and was a bit disappointed when the drive came. Instead of ADDING another burner, I ended up replacing my old one with this. When I get around to eventually ordering more things on Amazon, Ill try to remember to get cables. Theyre too small and cheap to warrant their own shipment/order. SOME drives I see on here do include the $2 cables. Just not this one. The drive itself works good, is quiet etc. I can say it does NOT let DVDShrink run as well as a few other LEGAL copy software. It seems to block this function. I found a way to circumvent this issue, but...again, I shouldnt HAVE to. Its not Asuss job to police what software I run. I own my movie, I can make a back-up. I cant even back up my home movies with this drive. So once I get those pesky addl cables, Ill have two DVD burners, one that allows access to all software. Ive already left a separate review for shipping, but Ill mention it again: this item comes packaged only in a plastic bag that is not sealed. It was sent in my case, with aquarium filters, that leaked charcoal particles all over the inside of shipping box. I found that very unacceptable on Amazons part. Combined shipping is great, but not when you damage items to save money.

This product is great when I use it which is about maybe a month here and there. But the quality is kind of cheap. But for the price cant complain to much.

An old standard. Have used whatever the current rev is of this line for decades, I have to be close to 100 installs on this guy. Works exactly as expected, super rare for them to make a coaster. Tried and true tech.
