Corel Painter Essentials 5 Digital Art Suite for PC and Mac (Old Version)

I have not used the whole program, but I got it mainly to change photos into paintings to use in illustrated children books. It works great for that, and when I get time, I will venture into the other aspects of this program.

Im still getting used to it, but I like it. I have no idea how people can make those awesome pictures with it though. You just cant buy talent and it sort of makes it look like you can.

I have been working with Essentials 4 for years, and was disappointed with the new version. There is no way to remove the feathered background from some of the painting options and did not seem as if there were any new features, some old features have been removed that I use on a regular basis. I would recommend a trial prior to purchasing.

Good but old school out dated

Corel Painter Essentials 5 is a huge step up from Microsoft Paint! This program is fun to play with and even though its supposed to be a stripped down version, the programs suits my needs tremendously and then some. I played with Painter 5 Essentials for about two weeks messing with photos, which was fun but after I borrowed a friends Wacom Bamboo tablet, the program is just amazing!

This software exceeded my expectations for such an affordable price.

First off, this program (or others like it) is probably responsible for most of the horrible art you see on the internet. Where people do stupid things to stupid pictures and declare it art. So what is it good for? Surprisingly, it is excellent for an author who needs to illustrate but does not have illustration skills.

Love this program. It is great for the beginner and helps you understand the fundamentals of creating paintings from photographs. It also gives you a jump start if you are planning to upgrade to the newest Corel Painter program.

I bought, installed and tried to use this, but THEN I got a trial up notice asking me to register & purchase this. It named the wrong title, calling the disc I got Painter 6 when it is 5. Then I input the serial number and clicked to contact Corel, only to get a window saying that my serial number was invalid. Now What???
