DONT BUY THESE DRIVES!! Hitachi branded drives havent been manufactured for quite some time now. WD Bought out Hitachi a few YEARS ago, and are now manufacturing the Hitachi drives branded as HGST (HGST are good drives for the money, and have few issues so far, but still an young acquisition). This seller is selling USED drives, reformatted, and without manufacturer warranty. You should NEVER buy a used HDD to begin with, but especially stay away from a seller who isnt honest about his goods!.

Bought 2 of these--life savers! They are replacements for my Stripe 5 RAID. Removed the old one, put this one in its place with no issue, the RAID ran the formatting and then rebuilt itself. My data is secure.

I am a retired engineer. I build computers as a hobby. This is not my first purchased of HGST hard drive. I’ve purchased 2T and 4T HDST with no issues. I first purchased a recertified HGST which I thought would be okay for the use in a home entertainment center to store TV series. I installed the drive and it immediately started making popping and cracking sounds during operation which is a sign of a failing hard drive. I returned it. This time I order a new Ultrastar hard drive which did the same thing. I’ve been using a 2008 HGST that I pulled from an old computer to store TV series. It works well, however it was only 5oo gigs. So, now I am using it again. I guess there is little or no quality control since it was now part of Western Digital.

This is a first day review of the 2TB HGST. Quiet and runs cool. Downside is 130 GB unavailable prior to formatting and partitioning. Thats a lot of missing space. I expect this drive will perform very well.

    1. Not shipped in a g-shock approved shipping container like they show in the listing pic. 2. Not in a factory sealed anti-static bag. 3. NOT NEW!!! S.M.A.R.T. log shows over 1,900 starts, 23,000+hrs of run time. They tired to format the boot sector to erase the S.M.A.R.T log, but I recovered it. 4. The drive had visible external scratches and marks. 5. They placed their label over the manufactures drive info label to hide the date code and SN#!!! FRAUD,,, RIP OFFS!!

These make a small amount of noise under heavy use, but Ive had much worse. They stay cool and work great in an ASUSTOR NAS. These also support hardware encryption that can be optionally enabled. These have the highest reliability rating of any drive in its class.

Drive arrived promptly from seller and was in well protected packaging. Chose this specific drive as it is a replacement for a failed system drive in a WHS v1 server. The original Windows Home Sever OS requires 512 byte sector drives as opposed to (most new) Advanced Format 4k sector drives. Drive is quiet, runs low temp; so far so good. Recommended.
