Greater than one weekFundamentally I like this thing but it has a MAJOR flaw. It is made out of a very low quality alloy which leaves marks on the wall when you use it. It writes on the wall just like a pencil.

Greater than one weekMade out of Aluminum, this protractor is durable, and is pretty handy. However, there are 3 things to know....

11-06-2025I was recently doing a pine board siding job on a barn with friends and a buddy had one of these. It saves so much time to be able to Get the (relatively )exact angle and tell the ground crew what the angle was without having to go up and down the ladder with a T-Bevel, or toss it down and chance it moving. Neat tool I purchased it after the first day of using my friends. Saved a lot of up and down ladder.

Greater than one weekUnlike some other reviewers, the protractor I purchased was dead on accurate. Very handy and will last my entire career and then some. *Note* I purchased this from my local Woodcraft

Greater than one weekHaving worked in and around machine shops all my life, the name Starrett became synonymous with quality. Recently, however, I purchased a Starrett Miter Saw Protractor model 505A-7 and was shocked to find that Starrett is no long is concerned about accuracy. The instrument I purchased was clearly off my at least one half degree while the package label screams laser engraved accuracy. My research indicates Starrett knows of this issue and has chosen to ignore it; seems wood workers do not require accuracy according to Starrett.

> 3 dayTypical Starrett quality. Very well built, accurate, and easy to use. A great aid when doing crown molding and base. A real bargain at the sale price I picked it up at!

> 3 dayI recently purchased and just received the Starrett CP505A-12 protractor. I heard poor reviews (online and from coworkers) about the less expensive models (505A-12 & 505A-7) regarding accuracy (mainly that they werent accurate due to the gauge decals being out of alignment from the factory). I spent extra for the CP version because it has good reviews and is claimed to be laser etched/engraved. Looking at the gauges it appears that, although maybe engraved, theyre still simply decals stuck onto the aluminum body, unless the aluminum underneath the decal is engraved, but Im not going to peel back the decal and ruin the $85 tool just to find out. I guess my point is that I feel a little disappointed after paying a premium and then finding that it appears the metal is not engraved, just the decal, which could peel or become misaligned. Are my concerns warranted? I probably wouldnt have bought it if only the decals were etched and not the body itself. Otherwise, it appears to be well built and the graduations do line up.
